Hi Paul, The previous year because of the number of different ways of rowing we used to mix up the pairs a lot so everyone was forced to somewhat compromise ( a very good skill to have). As the technique and boat moving philosophy became more uniform, we ore or less tried to match people up with each other so that all pairs were relatively stable and comfortable/fast to row. We changed the odd fellow here and there, but from about January onwards we tended to boat the same pairs. It made for some great training as most boats were pretty much the same speed.
