I was an infantryman for 7 years and served in Iraq. I love the people who love and support those who supported me. I think I'm a flawed man, but good man. People just don't understand once you get behind a trigger in a conflict wherever that conflict may be you become a monster. You can't help it. You have to be to make sure you come home alive. I'm not excusing his behavior at all, but I also can't sit in judgment over it ethier when I myself brought terror and suffering to people I didn't even know. Once you choose the life of a combatant, all social norms go out the window. The only thing I had that was different was the government telling me it was ok because it was for my country. We were kids just like Von and his friends. They just took our damaged asses and channeled for their cause. Chicago gang violence is truly heartbreaking, and I hope it ends someday.

I learned this growing up, I talked to a real gangster from the wards in Houston, did time, killed people and everything. I asked why he chose the gang he was apart of and he replied because they took care of us growing up and protect us from the other gangs and when they house got broke into and they took us the store buy us stuff looked out for us, mentioning they didn’t have the best parents or anything growing up but they had the older guys in the gang looking out and showing them to be street smart and what not, than he paused and told me that’s how exactly how the other gang feels and it would have been the same way if he was born on the other block and was apart of the other gang, they all just hurting each other and blaming each other…. Now look at Von and OBlock, the people who praise him most are from his block and he looked out for them, gang. If any of you haven’t watched the Adam 22 interview with fbg ducks mother you should check it out. It’s a very intriguing and educational interview. She speaks on pretty much everyone in the Chicago scene including Von, Kayla b (who she used to have at her house all the time, mama duck treated her like her own daughter) fyb jmane, butta etc. it’s a very enlightening interview and there’s a lot of good information in it. Definitely worth the watch. Personally, I got love for both sides, especially after watching that interview. Ducks people and Vons people and it’s really a sad situation all around because nobody won between Von and duck, everyone lost and it’s a sad situation all around. We gotta do something to stop the violence because there is no winning with that lifestyle. You either end up dead or in jail. We need to do better as a whole.
