O-Cedar Spin Mop Will NOT Spin! Not Quite So Simple to Fix

When my twice used O-Cedar spin mop would not free spin in one direction as it had the first time I used it, I did a quick search and it looked like a simple solution.....a one way bearing that needed to be replaced. Well, my one way bearing was SEIZED to the shaft that it was supposed to freely spin on.

I watched 100 repair videos BUT this video helped me fix my o'cedar, At the end, it shows how to connect the small & large wheels!

Honestly I probably used mine once also. I definitely haven’t used it since. It’s not a bad product when it works but I like the sponge mops better personally.

I have the same issue, but my unit is a little different than yours. Your plastic gear is held in place with a little plastic retainer. My unit has a grey plastic bar (held in with two screws that are impossible to get at) that holds the little gear in place. So, in order to get my unit apart (gear froze to the shaft like yours), I would have to physically break that grey plastic retainer so the gear could come out with the shaft/bucket, instead of on the pedal assembly. I wrote a note to ocedar, hoping they will help me out with some parts. This unit works well, but was expensive, shouldn't have to buy another one only to have the same problem. I guess the answer is spraying the gear/bearing with a lubricant ever few times the bucket is used.

I guess I meant to say that the pedal assembly could be removed leaving the gear in place on the spin bucket shaft. The pedal assembly is removed, not the mop bucket....

That's interesting that it's made differently. I think your wd40 suggestion will be the best. There has to be a way to get the gear off of the spindle...

@@Samlol23_drrich I'm thinking there has been plenty of complaints about this product, so perhaps they changed the design making it easier to get it apart. It will be interesting to see if ocedar helps me out. If they do, will definitely lube this bearing frequently!

@fleetwin1 that makes sense. Good idea poor execution if you ask me. The mop is flimsy as well. I have a large size quickie that's my go to. It's about a foot long and has served me well for years. Easy to swap heads also

@@Samlol23_drrich Yeah, maybe I will have to sneak in there with needle nose pliers to get the two screws out, then the gear/bearing/retainer will be left on the shaft once the pedal assembly is removed. Then, I'm sure I can pull the bearing/gear off the bucket shaft. Just hoping they will send me a new gear/bearing and retainer...

Just pull the basket out once you remove the screwed in base. The basket is hard connected to the rod. The gear/bearing will slide off if you pull out the basket from the other side.

That’s a good idea. Thanks. But anyone doing this, just know the bearing may be stuck to the metal rod. You may need to give it a couple of good yanks where it hits into the plastic before it pops off. After doing it once I see how it operates. I had no idea beforehand.and there wasn’t much out there which is why I made the video.

I just used mine ONCE. Today. Like 3 pedal pumps and something like stopped working. Since I still have the box and the receipt I might just return it. It honestly doesn't really spin the rhe liquid out anyway and I ended up using my regular sponge mop. For rhis price i can buy two nice regular buckets and still have plenty left over. 🤷 Plus.. I don't really like the mop, the handle won't stay tight and extended and I know how they work, it should lock into place. I think this product gained ao much popularity over the years they cheaped it up. I prefer the sponge mop or the Libman twist mop way better. And they can get into tighter spaces. 🤷

I agree with you 100 percent. I use a large quickie that I got years ago at home depot. They sell refills and it works very well and it's at least 12" wide so it covers a large area

Thats a driveway chime. Not a phone. I can see my cameras from where I was making the video. It was a bunch of deer walking on our property.
