After a break of a couple of years due to Covid, it was great to be back at the usual two day event in August hosted by Chris and Beverly. This double track is well integrated into the garden and offers multiple interesting viewpoints. In addition the spectacle was enhanced by several several passing shots at trains snake past each other. Chris' track highlights some interesting civil engineering challenges which face the garden railway designer. I always like the small over bridge designed to let water drain through. But also look out for the drainage as the track goes through the cutting at the top of the garden.
At a personal level I had one of my most satisfying runs for a long time. With my GNR Atlantic I raised steam and, under steam' drove through several points to the front of my train and hooked on. When given the right of way, I opened the regular and drove onto the main line. After several laps including a top up of meths and water, I hauled the train off the mainline into a 'station' in the garage. The layout provides a point to allow locos to run round the train. With falling pressure (fire nearly out) I pushed the coaches to the buffer stop, drove round to the shed area and then disposed of the engine with less than 20psi on the gauge.
