Don´t over think it ! My story with judo haha. Seriously, some people don´t like or forget about O Goshi because does not appear very much in competition but for self defense must be top 5 or top 10 if we talk about koshi waza. Thanks for sharing, I was making some mistakes.

Another great video out of the dojo!!! I always struggle with getting my hand where it needed to go during this waza. This class definitely helped with the fundamentals of the throw and getting their shoulders turning to get your hand deeper on the hip!

Ogoshi is one of the first two throws I always teach new students, the other being Osotogari. My belief has always been that if someone is equipped with a decent level of skill in Ukemi and in these two waza, even if that person does not continue Judo training (😢), he or she will be able to handle themselves in a self-defense situation. I completely agree with Riki-sensei that there are no such things as beginners’ throws. As I recall, American Olympic Judo champion Kayla Harrison’s tokui-waza is Ogoshi and I have seen numerous videos of her apply it with decisive effect. “Beginner’s throw” my left foot. This video is something I have been looking forward to for quite a while now, and it exceeds my fondest hopes in identifying for my benefit the essential details I should share with my own students so that their ability and confidence in executing Ogoshi are greatly enhanced, especially during randori. Domo arigatou!🥋🙏

O-Goshi is one of my favorite throws and it works well for Gracie Jiu-jitsu but you're right about the difficulty of getting the arm around the back. I always tell white belts and blue belts that it is best to lead with the hip and not the arm in order to execute it well. It also prevents shoulder strain too.

That shoulder strike Riki sensei demonstrates is very helpful!

Sensei, why do you use 型 instead of 形 on your board? 教えてくれてお願い致します。

Either one is acceptable.
