To choose the correct separation technique, we need to understand what are the compounds present in the mixture. Some examples include:
1) insoluble solid + liquid: Decanting/Filtration
2) solutions: Evaporation to dryness/crystallisation/simple distillation
3) 2 immiscible liquids: separating funnel
4) 2 miscible liquids: fractional distillation
5) 2 solids: sublimation
In this question, the melting and boiling points would give hints about the identity of the compounds present. Follow Mr Chua's thought process to solve such questions readily!
