Part 1 of 3
"Making the Band" was an ABC/MTV reality television series created by Lou Pearlman, the man responsible for the formation of the Backstreet Boys and the early management of *NSYNC. It started on March 25, 2000 on ABC. Pearlman embarked on a nationwide talent search, cutting auditions in eight cities down to 25 young men, and eventually eight finalists. These eight young men would, as the premise for a new ABC reality show, compete for five spots in Pearlman's newest boy band creation named "O-Town", to be signed to his record label, Transcontinental Records. The five guys who became O-Town were: Ashley Parker Angel, Jacob Underwood, Dan Miller, Erik-Michael Estrada and Trevor Penick.

So weird they would even say that he is too rockish to be on a pop song. Has any of them heard what Michael Jackson has done on slow songs ?.. he rocks it . He created that rock type vocals over certain music. It's kra z .. Jacob jus wanted to change up the typical boy and sound and I'm glad he did too it's awesome

I think Dan’s voice is smooth while Jacob’s is a bit jarring. So I think there’s a reason Dan was featured the most.

Jacob has the best voice. People say Dan's voice is the best, but Jacob's was so versitle which for me made him the best. He really shouldn't have been in a group. He needed to have his own band like a Maroon 5 type situation where he sang everything.

Jacobs ego was just bruised I think Dans voice suited the boyband songs, just seemed like Jacob wanted to be the lead

dan has a more common sound but is a more consistent and vocally stronger, its like bsb or nsync nick.justin more unique sounds aj/jc much better vocalist...the issue w/jacobs rock sound is its an acquired taste and not guaranteed to sell; he has alot of versatility and could have given them the sound they wanted he did it all season one, he made a choice to go w/a gruffer...gravelly uneven sound... dan can only do what he does..jacob can do a ton of things.. he chose it and it didnt get the resp he expected

Jacob's voice could possibly hang with JC's. JC's voice would win in a race, but Jacob wouldn't be too far behind.

Clive Davis' crusty ass doesn't know shit... He's still stuck in the '80s... Jacob's voice is one of a kind and rightfully deserved to be on all of those tracks...

He's amassed over $100 million dollars in this industry discovering talent, signing talent etc so he must be doing something right. He's not saying Jacob has a bad voice. He's saying it's too rock for a pop sound. He knows what he's talking about. You don't.

Oh man...Jacob is being such an annoying dude. What I'd do to switch spots and be in a nice group like that. He just needs more humility..... I'd just listen to what the Producers say and that's it. Just like Dan said.

He's chosen to be in a group because he has the "total package" including a very strong voice, producers choose to keep him in their cuts and then he's told all his parts need cut and switched to someone else. Why did they want him in the band if they want to make music that (they feel) isn't right for his voice? He's not trying to take over the band. He's trying to be a part of it, like he was selected to do. And you can tell - because he's the band's manager now and the parts are divided pretty equally among the four of them.

But Jacob also said at the beginning of this season that only now we will see the real Jacob. He purposefully adjusted himself in the first season to pass and get signed. I don't blame him for wanting to do something different/himself but he also understands what is expected in a boy band situation and sometimes has to follow the people in charge. BUT...good for him for pushing when it matters because we did end up with some great vocals and music.
