Hawaii is unique in that we have lots of mom and pop corner markets that sell the typical convenience store items. But what makes them all unique is they usually sell a specific food item that everyone enjoys from that one particular market. Let's go explore some of them!

Nii Superette sounds cool (even if he did get rid of a lot of "the good" stuff). Think we'll check it out next time we're in town.

Great idea Misty showcasing the mom n pop grocery stores. We had a bunch in SF chinatown where I grow up. At least most of your stores are still around. Ours turned into condos and parking lots.
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 2 года назад
That's too bad that they got rid of them. A lot of mom and pop restaurants here are going out of business due to inflation or people buying out their land.

Just got back from Oahu yesterday and already miss Hawaii. The weather was very nice. The only market we visited was Foodland Farms, so I'll save these for next time. BTW - satisfying my vegan and vegetarian twins was not that bad and finding parking was crazy. Thanks for your many recommendations.

Yummy looking. Love when you make it to the Leeward side so I can add it to my list of places to try! I sometimes think the 7-11 spam musubi has a little too much rice but it does taste good. Crunchy boiled peanuts over mushy boiled peanuts for sure!

Using chayote in place of green mangoes to make pickled "mango" is just as delicious and maybe even a little better. If young, no need to peel or to deseed.

Mmmmm; going to have to try Kamamalu Market; never been there but if the musubis are good, then it'll be a hidden gem 🙂 I'm guessing parking is just street parking so that might be a challenge....
@FoodFiend

Yes just street parking. It sucks. But they're just simple, old school, no sauce. So if you like sauce you won't like it as much but I enjoyed them. 😊
