yes Oakland was a nicer City before all the techies came in and overpriced and over bought all the houses creating all the homelessness around the city
I lived in Oakland until we moved to Alameda in the late sixties. We lived right next to Tech high school. My Grandmother lived in East Oakland all her life. Lot's of history in Oakland.
Nice video Charlie 👍👍👍👍 but please tell me you didnt leave Oakland yet....If you still in Oakland & want the best soulfood in the bay area then go to Southern Cafe on Mcarthur & canon street. best to go on Sunday cause they have live music.
Hey my home town! Love growing up here despite what they say if you're looking for trouble you can find it but if you mind your own it was a great place to grow up
At the beginning of the video he’s driving on highway I-80 and that’s the drive that I take like every other day on my way home, lol. I love watching your Bay Area videos. You should ride through South Sac, North Vallejo, Fairfield and Tenderloin/SF
The beginning is absolutely beautiful! Coming from the east coast you have to travel hours to see anything even close to anything like those mountains and hills
Word !!! 1994,i was 12, i moved from #TheOtherSideOfBoston to Kilafornia. I landed right in West Oakland where my family picked me up. I remember just seeing the grimiest projects i ever seen. It was very eerie. All those projects have been tore down and rebulit since long ago. I ended up living a few towns over thank God. My best memories of the Oakland Bay Area is the music scene tied to the atmosphere. This is way before tb he internet. And since then artist locally have been mega stars within their own region, unknownst to the rest of the world. I never seen nothing like it. Dru Down was on fire with Yuk Mouth of the Luniz. Spice 1. The Who Ridaz. 3 X Times CRAZY. Of course E 40 n the click from Vallejo n Celly Cell. 11/5 and San quinn from Frisco. Master P blew up out of Richmond , Ca before he blew up internationally and he repped it hard !! TRU. WEST COAST BAD BOYZ. Come on man. This was all the sound track of that early era. The Box was the go to channel on TV. There was a local Channel with Chewy Gomez and Sway way before he is what is now, that played all the local videos and music from the area. It was its own world. Too many to name. I moved back in 2006, and it was LIT all over again it never stoppes. The hyphy movement was in full gear. I remember bumping into Mistah Fab at the at SouthLand mall with his big ass chain. Keak the Sneak had the Bay going dumb. And Mac Dre who i didnt find out about till after his death, becuz i was gone from the scene, was like a GOD !! Years after his death, if they played his song at any venue the crowd would go CRAZY !! I never seen energy like i seen in The Bay. When i use to ride the Bart, thier train station, i remember passing the Oakland Cooliseum stop. And as it would pass you can clearly see the these Projects they called The Ville. 69 ville i think. They were horrible. 🤦♂️ I remember seeing them shits. Grafitti everywhere. It was GHETTO. They tore those down too. Anyway this are some just some of my brief memories associated with Oakland abd surrounding area. My little brother died in a fire a few years back in Oakland along with like 30 plus others in a horrific fire . 🙏⌛ #GhostShip My heart will always be tied to that region.
You only went through a small part of west Oakland. Also you went into Piedmont and Lake Merritt area which aren't hoods at all. You missed the north, the east, and 75% of the west.
You should hit up the IE, San Bernardino, Eastside Riverside, Colton, Bloomington, Rubidoux, Ontario, Rialto, South Fontana, Pomona, Banning, Perris, Hemet, Victorville, and Chino.
Chris Carey keeps getting worse and worse , went to one my old neighborhoods on the west side about two years ago and looks 10x worse than when I lived it in the late 90s
West Oakland is the grime part of Oakland, North is a little nicer than the rest, but East Oakland, past 60th ave is the actual hood. Look on the map and see where is the largest area is located.
Clearlake? Are you kidding me? Mendocino and Lake counties are just rural communities with a lot of stoners and homeless people. No gang violence like the big cities have.
There were times I went through some harrowing times and I set up my Ford 3/4 ton Pickup with a Cap and a mattress with a small refer plus other things and I was ready to move and go.. I know exactly how these poor people feel..
Seems like somebody gets shot at least once a week on International. I seen you drive by 98th St. Lots of excitement up and down 98th too. Cool video. Thanks. 👍
Se what the crying politicians in California do they been in power how long look how they have people living why people keep voting for them is beyond me
4:42 just washed my car there last week if you look to the far right that building used to have the best fish in Oakland 80s 90s Emmas, if u look far left that building was Flints some good Bbq unfortunately both are closed and long gone
I have watched many of your videos. I live just 45 minutes from Detroit, I think it's in the worst condition. I think ALL owners ( not renters ) should be held accountable for the condition of these properties. I am dumbfounded how this is something you see in every city. If those living in these places are too poor to own it then the landlords should be taking efforts to keep the houses livable for those they rent to, but they'll take money from the poor! Don't they?
First and foremost: I'm glad that he finally came to The Bay! Other than that, I have to mention that the first 2 minutes or so of the video were definitely not the hood (some of that wasn't even Oakland). Secondly, yeah, that was The West...but he didn't slide through any spot-spots.
Wtf I stay on 16th & Adaline only few blks down from where your driving & it's so damn gentrified.. That GHOST TOWN area of W Oak is mainly transient & homeless ppl. If anything you need go to BOTTOMS or East Oak.. Seminary, Bancroft, 88th, 89th & up. Otherwise it looks like an normal Uber route.. SMH
