Hi Pete, a good video to introduce others to the walk across Poronui Stn. The stream that you cross by the large fallen tree is the Kaipo, and the stream directly below the hut is the Omarau, with both converging into the Mohaka further downstream.
You're not the first to point out my error about me naming the rivers. I should have had a better look at the map!! That trip you spoke about looks great. I had planned a similar one over the summer, but work got in the way. Maybe next year.
Yep, on the way out I passed 12 or so hunters walking in. It is a popular spot. I'm pretty pleased to have been to a hut that you haven't. Cant be many of those!
Nice hut. Looks really hot! The morning after looked pleasant though. Bloody flies, drive me mad too, but at least the toilet didn't attract them. Enjoyed this one, does look like a nice pleasant walk, and that fallen tree is one cool way to cross a stream.
