@@jamie8037 absolutely. If it was mixed better, cut down about 20-30 minutes, and cleaned up some of the track list with some better tracks like Going Nowhere over Magic Pie, for one example, it would rank much higher for me. The 2016 NG remix of D’You Know What I Mean is so much better than the original because you can actually hear the instruments in it, which is very hard to do with the original mix.

I had a couple Oasis albums, and I don't think the one with all the hits. I never cared to listen to either all the way through. I just liked a song here and there. But i had about four singles that were really good from start to finish. Their a-sides and b-sides and live tracks (when applicable) seemed to just work really well on them. Also, I saw them live and thought they were among the better bands I saw live.

This is my favorite band for very personal reasons. People love or hate them. They were everything rock n roll should be: reckless and insane. The best part with them are their B Sides. If you don’t know them, please look them up. I really believe if we switched a few songs here and there the albums would have gonna more play. Esp Standing. You add Let’s All Make Believe to that album and the critics would have seen it differently. I personally love every album, but this one is one I always go back to more than the others.

As an Oasis fan, it kills me you go 34 mins and amongst the slander, begrudged acceptance of a handful of songs and general condescension never mention why Oasis reached such success. OASIS WAS A GREAT LIVE BAND. They toured their arses off and put on great shows where fans would be able to escape their lives and join together with 50,000 of their mates. And that is exactly what Oasis was all about. I drove 10 hours to see them live and it was a moment I’ll never forget with songs that will stay with-me forever. They are a band that is still beloved in countries as diverse as Argentina and South Korea. So carry on and critique away… but remember a band like Oasis made it big because they worked harder and wanted more than most bands. How about a little respect Kram.
@XanderMohan
@XanderMohan 2 года назад
Oasis worked harder than anyone else? 😂 Good joke mate. And yeh they were definitely fun live, but being good at putting on a show, doesn't stop half of their albums being a bit shite. You can be an oasis fan (I used to count myself as a huge fan), but that doesn't stop them making valid points about some boring reproduced songs and overblown production.

Gotta say, I saw Oasis live on five separate occasions... and on three of those they were utterly dreadful. Truly embarrassing, they were drunk / high and bickering with each other and playing sloppier than some bunch of idiot nobodies playing in a pub somewhere, That said, Manchester Maine Road in 1996 was one of the very best gigs I've ever seen so... whatever. ;o)

Yup this episode featured 3 ignorant pompous snobs discussing a band they think little of. Are unfamiliar with their output. Omitting The Masterplan that contains just a fraction of B Sides, all fantastic but a drop in the bucket. You shouldn't rank Oasis albums, kinda pointless when you have 40 (My guesstimate) great songs that are not on these albums.

I´m English and bar the two first albums I always thought they were overrated and not very imaginative. Their singles and the b-sides from the 94 to 96 period are awesome and there was a real craze for them and they captured the crazy spirit of England in the mid '90s, but come 1997 and their glory days were pretty much over. A shame that they never really ventured into new musical territory.

Be Here Now being messy and too loud and overblown is part of its charm. The cockiness of 1997 Oasis wills it into greatness. Anthem bubblegum melodies shoved through a paper shredder. Sounds good to me. If they'd replaced Magic Pie with Stay Young it'd be even better (man!!).

As someone who came late to the Oasis party, I'll be the first to say that although I love a lot of their songs, I don't like a lot of the production on their studio albums. Most of the time I will bypass them for a live version wherever I can get it. They were so tight and rockin' live, yet sluggish and bloated on album. If I were them, I would have recorded all of their albums with more of a live feel which would have played to their strengh.

This one was really interesting for me to listen to and especially as someone who was 17 when Oasis came out and quickly became VERY popular. I may be in the minority here but I saw them at a small club in Cardiff, Wales in 1994 and then one more time playing to 250,000 people in Knebworth. They were great live and created moments I still remember. Obviously I know and like the first two albums but honestly after Knebworth I didn't listen to another album by them and I still don't know why? If you liked beer and anthems, they were your band, but I wanted more and I'm not sure they had it. I was more Suede and so required a little more dark intrigue and mystery as well as banging guitar rock. They did and still do make a lot of people happy in the UK and would sell a zillion tickets in minutes if they ever played again. I won't be going though.

It's funny, I was there at the time and I still can't explain to you how this pretty rough and ready sounding, creation records indie band ended up becoming a massive mainstream success. My mate's little sister went from liking Kyle and stuff like that to being an Oasis fan. That's the mainstream reach they had. It was nuts. It never really felt like they dragged anyone else up with them though, Blur and Pulp were pretty successful already and Suede were a far more interesting but far less commercial, all the other 'brit-pop' bands stayed in the 'indie band - student club night' arena pretty much. Oasis had a much broader and more commercial audience. I can't really explain why.

I feel like both DBTT and DOYS are grossly overlooked when talking about the band’s best albums. For me, it’s where they struck that balance of retaining that ‘Oasis’ sound but also trying different things without it getting too messy. DOYS especially has a very uncharacteristic groove to it that somehow still has a rock n roll swagger, and Falling Down is an absolute gem. It’s a shame it took so many misfires after WTSMG to get to that place musically.

Most people do not realize that oasis were an independent band without a major label. What they succeeded was unheard of at the time . In the US they tended to ignore the main stream and never played the media game. Oasis still played Madison square gardens, the Hollywood bowl after their peak. In 1997 Be Here Now reached number two on the billboards which I would also add as an accomplishment. You Cannot compare Oasis with Blur or cold play. Oasis are working class , the others are college boys. If you lived in the UK you would know where I'm coming from.

The British obsession with class is probably one of the worst things about that society, IMO. Yes, yes, I understand the historical aspects of the phenomena, and it's not like the US is without that strand of thought as well, but nowhere to the pathological extent that it consumes the British mind. In the end, it's destructive for social cohesion to be so tied to one's class that there is only hatred for your fellow citizens who occupy a different class. Obviously, this is a sickness that goes both ways, the people at the top looking down on the people below and vice-versa, but really, a pox on both your houses. Be better.

Brit speaking here and one with no problem with Kramzers critique I bought Definitely Maybe on release and thought it a good enough album although overhyped by the music press. Bought What's the Story which was massive over here, which I didn't buy into. It was an okay album but nothing more. The British music press if memory serves me correctly thought it an anticlimax after their debut and were taken aback by the popularity and sales.......rather than misread the public mood again, they heaped massive praise on Be Here Now upon its release only later realising it was pretty much pants. Be Here Now was my last purchase of Oasis albums, coming to the conclusion they were on a downward spiral

My ranking of their albums is very similar to Joe's but I definitely don't agree about: Champagne Supernova. For me, it's easily their best song. To tell you the truth, having the first two albums is all that's necessary because the rest are very much inferior. I am not surprised by Jason's choice because he ranked Wish You Were Here at No 8 in the Pink Floyd discography so this one it's nowhere near as bad.

1. Definitely Maybe 2. Heathen Chemistry 3. WHATS THE STORY 4. DIG OUT YOUR SOUL 5. DONT BELIEVE THE TRUTH 6. BE HERE NOW 7. STANDING ON THE SHOULERS OF GIANTS I'm a huge Oasis fan, probably my 3rd or 4th favourite band all time. Standing on the shoulders is bad, I can't really listen to it, Be here now, I like only a few songs, but every other album I think is good-excellent from start to finish. For me they definitely dropped the ball after What's the Story, then never really got the ball rolling again till Heathen Chemistry, and continued to make solid albums till they broke up. Its fun to think noel Gallagher high flying birds debut album could have been the direction they were going and I've often wondered how those songs would sound with Liams voice. I'm definitely more a fan of Noels voice though. Anyway great video, looking forward to watching more of these

MY *OASIS* LIST 7. *STANDING ON THE SHOULDER OF GIANTS* *[2000]* If BE HERE NOW was the cocaine fueled party, SOTSOG was the morning after. The hangover. Liam Noel and Alan White wake up to find that 2 members had left and the guys had an obligation to keep the party rollin'. They try to go for more of a psychedelic angle to the songs and it doesn't always pay off. Half of this album is actually really good. The other half consists of tracks that either Meh or filler. This album is the sound of a band whose confidence has been shaken. They do sound a bit wounded. That being said, *Go Let It Out* was a good single. I love the *F*****' In The Bushes* intro that precedes it. *Gas Panic!* & *Roll It Over* are the big highlights on this record and they both stand up with some of the best songs they ever wrote. 6. *HEATHEN CHEMISTRY* *[2002]* After SOTSOG, I feel like the band knew that they had to get their shit together and make an honest to god better album than the one before. Reformed with new members Gem Archer on guitar and Andy Bell on bass, they set out to make a better record and they did!....kinda. They definitely sound a lot more focused and reclaimed some of their energy, but they didn't really reclaim the confidence and cockiness they once had. And that translates to just about all of the record. Nothing here really grips you in the same way tracks on their other albums did. A lot of the songs are great but not amazing. However, *Hindu Times* *Hung In A Bad Place* *Little By Little* and *Songbird* are all worth mention. 5. *BE HERE NOW* *[1997]* The band is at their peak of popularity and it seemed like they could do no wrong, but they become caught up in all the trappings of their massive fame. Inflated Egos. In fighting. Drug abuse. And all of that ties into their 3rd record. Is it terrible? No. Is it overblown? YES! This is album is sooo OVERLY COMPRESSED, I actually get ear fatigue when listening to it. Despite the fact that there are great songs on here, its sadly a bit of a step down in quality on all ends. *Don't Go Away* *My Big Mouth* *Dya Know What I Mean?* and *Stand By Me* are my favorites from this album. 4. *DIG OUT YOUR SOUL* *[2007]* The final album. And I'm glad that they ended on this note. They once again go for a more psychedelic approach to the songs, and unlike on SOTSOG, it actually pays off here in strides. The instrument layering, walls of sounds they were coming up with were astonishing. All of that mixed with a great use of dynamics made for a really solid album. It may not be their best, and they never quite reclaimed the magic of the first 2 albums, but they ended on a strong note. It just pisses me off because they were on a good roll by this point and it would've been interesting to see what they would do next. *Bag It Up* *Waiting For The Rapture* *I'm Outta Time* *Shock Of The Lightning* and *Soldier On* are my favorites from the album. 3. *DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH* *[2005]* Their confidence returns. Noel comes up with some of the best songs he's written in years. Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr and drummer for The Who, comes in to be their drummer. This all leads to them making their best album since 95's MORNING GLORY. At least that's what I think. *Lyla* and *The Importance Of Being Idle* were fantastic singles. *Mucky Fingers* showcases a nice slice of Velvet Underground influence. *Part Of The Queue* is an unexpected moment but in the greatest way possible. *The Meaning Of Soul* SLAMS, and *Let There Be Love* is a brilliant and beautiful album closer. THIS is the record that proudly stands next to their first 2, and rightfully so. 2. *(WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY* *[1995]* What am I gonna say that hasn't already been said?! Its MORNING GLORY. Its BIBLICAL. Both *Wonderwall* and *Champagne Supernova* are on this record. And the rest of the album is f*****' solid! Not a weak moment. *Hello* *Hey Now* *Roll It Over* *She's Electric* *Cast No Shadow* *Some Might Say* ......I could go on and on and on. The hype is real. This album is a classic. 1. *DEFINITELY MAYBE* *[1994]* One of the greatest debut albums by any band. In one swoop, you are smacked across the face with songs that carry the swagger of Rolling Stones and T-Rex, The melodic integrity of The Beatles and The Kinks, the power and volume of The Who, and the f*** you arrogance and confidence of the Sex Pistols. Its loud. Powerful. Profound. Unforgettable. Iconic. And my personal favorite Oasis album. *Rock N Roll Star* *Live Forever* *Digsy's Dinner* *Slide Away* *Columbia* *Up In The Sky* and *Bring It On Down* are my favorite jams from this one, but the whole album is phenomenal. Yeah, I love this band. I've been a fan since 2000, and have had a lovely relationship with their music. They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I get them. I always come back to their music, and I'm always inspired by it. As an American fan, they made an impact. I wouldn't have it any other way. Cheers guys 👍

I grew up on Oasis. I've been to see them about 6 times. Seen Noel and Liam both solo and seen beady eye. I've got to say that I pretty much agree with the the frustrations of some poor recording on their early stuff. Standing on the shoulder of Giants is the biggest compilation of shite I've ever had the misfortune to listen too. Heathen Chemistry is bland and unoffensive which to me is not what Oasis should be. Dont believe the truth and Dig out your soul are much better and have some great songs especially 'Turn up the sun' and 'Falling Down'. In reality they became a bit of a joke in the muic press and I can see why. The 1st two albums are two of the greatest albums ever written and after that you could make one more great album using the best of the rest. Also their Bsides are for me, better than most bands A sides.

I find it interesting when I do back and listen to Oasis (doesn't happen very often anymore) I like them far less than I did back in the day. (Whats the story) Morning Glory is still very listenable with some excellent songs. As mentioned in this review, the first album is so harsh to the ears its become unlistenable to me. Other albums are sprinkled with very good songs surrounded by mediocre excess. Not included in this review because its actually a B-side compilation, I do find "The Masterplan" very enjoyable. For me, the "Stop the Clocks" and "The Masterplan" compilations are all the Oasis I need.

I've never wanted to hear the albums after number 3 and, if they had ended after their first two albums, they'd have a much better reputation. I don't like Liam's voice and find it tiring over an album. I'll leave ratings of the first two until 94 and 95 when I'll play them and compare them against their peers. PS I voted for Suede in the poll. I think they'd have given you more pleasure.

Ha ha ha boyz I was not expecting that. Got Definitely Maybe on debut as I’d liked the singles and at the time was like a little breath of fresh air. Most of the rest of it looking back (in anger obviously) I’m can take or leave to be honest. Before Wonderwall became a housewives favourite they were a little indie/alternative/cool and the every man and his dog got into them and I kinda walked away. Saw them twice - once on a bad acid trip in Glastonbury which kind of sums up Kramzer’s take I reckon. Keep up,with the surprises and careful what you ask the public to vote for....

A fantastic rocker. In the UK they were as important as Nirvana for a short period of time. Suede were a much more interesting band - although they were pre Brit-pop. Most of the Brit-pop bands had great early albums and then ran out of steam, apart from Suede who still make great records up to present times. Standing on the shoulder of giants I like don't believe the truth. Other than the first two albums, it's the most recognisably oasis sounding album that's palatable (or pretty good). Be here now is recognisably oasis, but not very good. Dig out your soul is a very worthy album too, but does fade badly towards the end. Heathen chemistry sounds like a cross between giants and truth, in terms of style. Beatle-ish in places, typical oasis in others, but generally a bit all over the place. Be here kow just needed better editing and some tracks to be replaced by others. My big mouth, magic pie, Be here now, all around the world reprise, and perhaps one or two others could have gone. They were on to something with d'you know what I mean, I hope I think I know, girl in the dirty shirt and parts of all around the world and stand by me. And finally; Giants. Really didn't like this album, on the whole. Gas Panic was a great song, go let it out isn't bad, f**n in the bushes is good, where did it all go wrong is decent. Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants is totally a reference to that lyric in “King Of Birds” from R.E.M., so there’s another Oasis theft. 😉 I haven’t gotten past Be Here Now and The Masterplan yet, but definitely agree with all the typical criticisms of the former with the songs being way too long, as well as the latter being near the top of the Oasis pile despite being just a B-sides album. If you really like a band/product youre going to be really happy when it is similar to itself yet reveals new facets every now and then. I LOOOOVE my wifes long straight black native/indigenous hair; it never gets tiring or old to me. Sure sometimes under a hat or a pony tail, but NEVER curly, red, short etc and she looks WOW! Her clothes change, the colors and teh way she compliments her skin tone with colors is fantastic, they change but still shes similar. So if you dislike Oasis (*cough cough* Kramzer) then them sounding similar makes the experience worse. Contrast that with Your Coldplay reviews where you pined for the older stuff, wishing they stuck with the early stuff and what worked. Same with U2, going too far from who they were and when they sounded closer to OG you liked em more. I find most bands have a 10 year window before they lose the plot and change too much. lastly there was that interview w SRV where they criticized him for sounding "too much" like Jimi, to which he replied "and that's an insult how???"
