I believe there's an errata for the rule at 16:34, if the player has no advisor, his banner can always be taken. Errata: 5.4.1. Recover, Spend 1 Supply and Choose Target. Change the following clarification in error: “(Ignore ruined edifices and facedown advisers, since they have no suit. You cannot recover the Darkest Secret from another player if their site has no cards, but you can recover it if they have no faceup advisers.)”
I purchased my KS copy from my FLGS this past weekend and I've watched this video about 10 times. It explains everything for a visual learner like myself. Thank you, Tarrant!
Hi everyone, got the Oath full how to play, hope it helps you getting the game quicker to the table. Or between games. Or if you just want to know what the game is about! We do 2 parts, watch this one first, before then next one, Setup & Roller. Please let me know if you have any questions, feedback, and if you enjoy it, that would be helpful :) Thanks so much for watching 🙏
Amazing video! Just wanted to add a tiny clarification (that I didn't see in any comments): - 12:08: chain cards can be discarded if they are face-down.
Hi :) At 15:40, you can choose to move a favor to the favor bank even if you have favor on your board. At 16:35, you can target a player with no advisers.
Alexandre, thank you, yes you are correct on both counts. The former is an error on our part; the latter is a correction which has been made to the official rules since the original printing.
Phenomenal learn to play video! Thanks so much for this. I will probably still need to watch it 2-3 times before I try and teach this to my friends but looking forward to it!
Hi again :) Thanks again for this great video ! Some clarifications : A ) 21:10 If the defender is defeated, they first kill warbands in their force (if their pawn is else where, warbands on their board are not added to their force) and then take back warbands. B ) 24:07 Offering Citizenship : You can only negotiate favor, secrets, banners and relics. You can’t negotiate binding « actions ». « Binding actions at any future time » are only possible at The Tribunal. C ) 25:15 You may become an Ally if your pawn is at a targeted site or the site of the attacker’s pawn D ) 25:33 The Ally is not forced to use and pay for a battle plan on their own advisers. E ) 26:00 You don’t need the Chancellor permission if you move warbands from your board to your site. (And I think you forgot this rule : With Chancellor permission, you may give or take warbands to another Imperial Player.) F ) 26:22 You refresh your Supply to the same level as the Chancellor but you still save your unspent Supply. G ) 26:42 The price is decreased if you are the Oathkeeper or hold the People’s Favor H ) 31:25 The targeted player must be at your site. I ) Finally, you didn’t explain « Peek at a Relic » or « Peek at an Imperial Relic »
“Then play the card you drew in one of *five* different ways.” This video is so clear and perfect, it somehow magnifies how preposterous the rule set is. I died laughing. 11:02
Thank you for making this video as clear as possible. I'm playing my copy of Oath today for the first time and I'm both excited and really nervous to teach the rules. It's soooo complicated
Great video! A tip I would suggest while teaching about Campaign, is to show the player aid for campaign, and describe how to use it and how to perform the action from this player aid. In that way player wont have to remember all the different options and requirement for campaigning in their head, but would instead know how to use the player aid to figure it out when needed. Altough I have yet to see any video tutorial where anyone have done it. Which I find suprising. Just my thoughts :) Anyway, amazing video!!
Hello again Viktor :). Yes we've done this before, I cant remember which how to play video we've done that for, either on Meeple University or The Dice Tower. For this one I think we decided doing it different way, but will keep that in mind, great suggestion, thank you!
9:10 ok i get that favours and secrets should be placed on the site card once revealed, but they just stay there? or do they go anywhere? maybe when the site is searched or captured?
I know this video was a while ago, but I just needed to tell you all at Meeple University exactly how good this tutorial is and how much I've appreciated it. Oath is so weird and strange to wrap one's head around, and this video wonderfully sums up everything you need to know to play, in such a brilliant, thoughtfully constructed, no-fluff manner. Having played the game (and having taught it thrice), I'm in awe at just how clean your explanation is. I genuinely think this video is an exceptional achievement in pedagogical filmmaking. If I ever start making tutorial videos, this is what I'd want them to be like. Meeple University is up there with Watch It Played as some of the best board game teachers on the internet.
@@MeepleUniversity you will find the link to the errata on this thread: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2628630/official-oath-frequently-asked-questions-faq-and-e
Thanks for a great tutorial, I learned so much. I don't want to be negative, but I can hardly understand Stella. This video is great because she doesn't speak much. Maybe she can help to create the content without expressing it in English. She might be perfect for another language I don't know. I think she must be intelligent, wonderful, and full of capability. Let her talents shine in other areas. Great work by the Caucasian man. As usual.
i ges u cannnot unsdfertand my werrriiting toooooo 😆 becasuss I cannnot be understoood. (but I guess I don't have to worry about it, you wouldn't understand me anyway, all good, lol
I always watch Meeple channel all the time, and I don't see why anyone has any difficulties understanding Stella's English. Both this Asian lady and Caucasian man speak well and can be fully understood. Once again well done, Tarrant and Stella, for this great video, as always ❤
Great Video! Very clear and concise rules explanations. I especially appreciate the explanation on the ins & outs of Citizenship. So many videos seem to gloss over this section and it’s one of the more confusing areas. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If I want to stop somone who has a banner based vision. And want to just attach the banner to get rid of it. Assuming I'm on the same site as that players pawn, can I just attack the banner and not try to banish the player? If so, will the warbands on their player board still count to defence?
Hi NemoMangelk. 1) Yes, you can attack just the banner, and you are never forced to attack an opponent's pawn. The only time you are forced to choose a specific target is if the defender rules your site, in which case you must include that site among the targets. 2) Yes, the defender's warbands still count to defence. Even if the pawn isn't attacked, the warbands on the player board do count if the pawn is at an attacked site or the site of the attacker's pawn.
Hi Simon. Yes, that is legal - when you play a card from your facedown advisers, you have all of the same options as when you drew it in a search: playing to your site, your faceup advisers, or discarding.
just wanted a little clarification: at 7:40 you said red can access "Taming Charm" but does not rule it. What's the difference between ruling and accessing a card?
Hi William. The defender only gains the defense dice shown on the declared targets - not on all ruled sites/owned relics etc. In this case, the mountain was not declared, so the defense die is not added. (If the attacker had targeted the mountain, not only would the defender have gained an extra defense die; but the attacker would also have lost an attack die due to the effect on the lower-left corner of the site card - making it an even more difficult target to have claimed.)
If a players holds the Banner of the Darkest Secret, and has no face-up advisors, but is at a site with a denizen of any faction, why can you not Recover the banner from them?
Hi JB: this rule has been updated since the ruleset we used for this video. According to official Oath rules right now, you ARE allowed to recover the banner from a player with no face-up advisors.
Want a copy for scalper prices? I read in a boardgame stream that people are gonna charge $300 in the second hand market because of all the good reviews that will be released soon.
