Beat the whole game 2nd edition. This game is a masterpiece. I anticipate the next time I play it. Every encounter is just so exciting. And a wonderfully epic conclusion
Not quite a dungeon crawler but more of a detective story to find clues which provide support in eventual arena boss battle encounters. One of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay loop might be repetitive for some, but I love it simply because of the cool lore and fascinating setting. Also love the combat card play and upgrading your characters/ entire free company after each encounter. One gripe I have is the push to fit. Those minis are rough, even in 2nd edition (especially as a penitent player). Besides that, the components are some of the best quality I’ve seen. Can’t wait for the sequel game! I hope they include actual dungeon crawling where our party gets to fight minion bad guys before the end of chapter boss fights. There also needs to be more variance in the story. Each chapter essentially leads to the same fight. In the sequel, I hope to see more branching paths that could do things like leading to completely different fights for example. Would make for better replayability
metal dice are the HP dice for your Oathsworn characters. My brother and myself have been playing this game a lot since we received it. We are on chapter 18 now and enjoyed ever session.
I LOVE this game. I have not integrated in my second edition update pack yet. You have to finish the campaign. It is SO worth it! There are so many things you have not experienced yet.
Oathsworn is the reason I'll never back first editions and early adopt again. Tanares is a big reason as well. It just kills the industry if enough people realise that you'll get a better game cheaper generally if you wait, cause games won't get made in the first place. Upgrading with all the additional deluxification was just too expensive, the standard upgrade pack wasn't cheap to begin with.
Agreed. Actually, 2nd+ edition peaks my interest more including GH and Tanares. I'm willing to wait for the mass to do more play testing. I'm satisfied with my standee version of Oathsworn.
I've definitely watched several of your videos on my TV, sometimes listening from the kitchen and sometimes with the fireplace on. But the main way I watch is via computer or phone.
Red bag to store your dice (including the metal which tracks health of your heroes as others mentioned) Blue bag is for your money. Oathsworn marker for tracking hero location during city phase.
Had a grand time playing the first few chapters at Level Up, thank you for having it there, looking forward to setting up our copy at home now that we have a handle on the rules. 2nd Edition minis definitely do a better job of staying together, but the core gameplay and story are outstanding!
I mostly watch RU-vid on TV (cast from my phone) as I watch mostly while painting minis or while eating, or browsing (mostly BGG) on my phone. It's also just a lot nicer to watch on the larger screen when games are shown for reviews or playthroughs as there's far more details visible and I can read text on cards and such more easily that way.
I have to say the dice are used a LOT more then I initially thought. When we played we constantly counted cards and anytime we were at a disadvantage we would start rolling dice until we scouts reshuffle or use hunter attacks that can’t miss.
Just finished the game. Started with the first edition and halfway through got the upgrade kit. They differently improved the encounters. Especially the final encounter has been made way tougher in a good way.
All of the shaking miniatures for science reminded me a lot of Goobertown Hobbies' experiment videos. Informative, but also just a lot of fun to watch!
@@buddhawasright As Funyuns seems to be a very American snack that I've never seen in stores here in the Netherlands (or had even heard of before Brent mentioned them), I often compare them to Cheetos in my mind, so that makes sense 😉
the metal dice replace the normal hit dice for place, the ones you put on your board to count your health, so you dont actually roll them. the upgrade was a gift to a gf, i wouldnt have done it, but than i wouldnt have gotten the game myself. (it is still a lot of fun to play and the upgrade feels worth it, especially the dice and dice tray for its size) only the pouches are a bummer in the sense that strung up they cause problems in repacking the box sadly. so i recommend other storage or using the original pouches. they can still be used for other things obviously.
I wasn't in on second edition but I was a late backer for the 1st edition and paid extra to make their game happen. I cannot find an update pack available anywhere online the only way I can currently get the changes is if I fully buy another copy of the base game. That a really big fuck you to original backers. Why not have some in stock. Kingdom death monster, aeon tresspass odyssey, isofarian guard, are all going to have updates packs for sale on their website or already do. Who likes to feel like they now have an inferior product because they were a original supporter of a game.
I am curious, does anyone know offhand if second edition made any changes to the option to use either cards or die for checks? It seemed like the ability to choose was supposed to be a feature, in practice we found it turned into a weirdly high number of times where 'draw the rest of the might deck' became a guaranteed success. After that happened in a story section for a gambling game at a bar and realized we had a guaranteed win, we decided it felt too game-y and just used die. We might be getting back to this game soon now that an end to Frosthaven is in sight for us, so I am curious if anything about that (even just the deck size) had changed.
I only have and played the second edition. Dice and cards continue to be interchangeable for all aspects of the game. Don't see a reason to make a change since if you want to make it less "game-y", you already implemented an existing solution.
the only thing I did not like was the stickers for the upgrade pack encounter book, I would have gladly paid more to get an upgrade book, I did the same for KDM and bought a 1.5 book rather than have a book with stickers to update the pages.

I'm being a bit harsh and am ok using the basic dice which indeed look pretty basic. A bit disappointed they didn't get more love from the start. Maybe it was also a feedback thing that they added later on. ;)
I actually watch a lot of RU-vid on my TV, but through the HDMI output from my laptop, so I guess kind of best of both worlds in that sense. I was SO tempted to try Oathsworn at LevelUp, but we actually have a new person in our game group who has it, so I'm pretty sure I'll get a chance eventually. So, instead we kind of went more with stuff that we otherwise wouldn't have access to, but I was definitely eyeing it every time I walked through the library.
The fact that they didn't offer and produce a batch of update packs large enough for all backers of the 1st edition, has moved Shadowborne Games onto my personal blacklist. Just utterly disrespectful and unforgivable.
That's unfortunate they did that... I was wondering where the upgrade kits are because I saw discussion of them online, but they aren't listed on their webstore. This is one of the games high on my wishlist, but yeah that's a pretty bad practice.
You are mad a company produced to meet current demand and don’t have stock just laying around? As a business owner, some people would rather work within their means than risk becoming the next mythic games 😂 It’s not convenient like a larger more established company, but I would rather wait than have history repeat
@@youknowthething8262 I agree with your point, but if Shadowborne Games is going to sell copies of 2nd edition at retail on their webstore *via 'preorder'* for delivery in April, doesn't it make sense they could also do the same thing with upgrade kits? They wouldn't need to produce them except to meet preorder demand, exactly how they're selling the full 2nd Edition.
