And I just found the reason for this high level of quality: Neill Blomkamp Look for the films he has directed and/or written Oh and Sigourney Weaver This is definitely the best of his films. Though I haven't seen Alien 5 or Elysium
Sigourney Weaver's just earned my lifelong respect from starring in this one. Pity it wasn't longer though, it ended just as the action started to suck me in. It's brilliant. I'll be coming back to it many times for sure.
@@ozroad I saw this on Netflix as a bundle of short titles and was really surprised to see all the works by Oats Studios here for free on RU-vid. It had me doing a deep read into Neill Blomkamp and the new VFX technology he's using to pull off these works. It's incredibly scary to see how good VFX is now and programs like Unreal Engine are completely free to use. I may as well hang up my boots and lay in my grave.
I watched this 2 years ago, and I check back every couple of months since then to see if they decided to it into a series or a movie. I would literally pay a thousand dollars just to watch it, and I'm not even kidding, it's that good. There's nothing like this out there that even come close.
Indeed the Queen of ScFi!! While on vacation decades ago, I took a break from the beach to make the rounds of Pensacola thrift shops. Saw a little shack and went in. The place was full of DVDs and CDs. Found the DVD set of all the Alien movies with separate directions cut and commentaries for each. I almost wet myself. Cost me but I've never regretted it.
@@FalseHoodxNot the same person but my guess would be the same complaint I've heard from almost everyone I've met who didn't like it: "I can't understand a word he's saying, his accent is too thick." A lot of people were just not ready for a fully South African film. I remember my mom was frustrated when she watched it for that reason.
@@chymira182 I think you’re right, but their’s is an ignorant view of a brilliant life-like movie by Neill Blomkamp with an interesting main character brilliantly portrayed by Sharlto Copley, whom has gone on to many more memorable roles showcasing his range from comedic to serious dramatic actor and from villain to action hero.
@@gamestreamertv5039 monetization is almost non-existent. And you pay to support art you like or the well dries up. And their site has a LOT of part one with no follow-up so there is no guarantee.
@@danthovict381 that’s what I’ve been wondering because almost all of the shorts say “volume 1”. (Without a vol. 2,3, etc)... I check back every couple of months hoping for sequels for a half dozen of these...
This short and some of the others were made by Neill blomkamp director of district 9 he set this channel up after becoming disgruntled with Hollywood after his alien five movie fell apart due to studio politics. These shorts are made independently and with smallish budgets as a sort of test to see what gauges the most interest and feedback in the hope of get funding and expanding them into full length feature films
Emotion. Originality. Drama. Sigourney Weaver. Effects. Just amazing. One of the best things I have seen in such a long time. Good God, please give me more.
Holy shit, that was intense... the setting, the effects, the tension, characters, sound, light... Blomkamp is a freakin visionary. I would love to see that short become a 3 hour movie!
I want to know more about the angelic species that came to earth after the lizard species started to kill all the humans! You really need to follow this up.
Very good audio mixing and voice articulation! You can actually hear all the narration without the sound effects drowning it out, which is better than what most theater movies do.
Darn, I just watched it on Netflix thinking it was a series and I was getting hooked, then at the end the next one was something completely different lol I was like wtf? I need more of Rakka!
If ripley cant help us we are fecked. Sigourney Weaver is my childhood saviour. Long live Sigourney, the most badass sci fi actor ever. Ghostbusters, Alien ( all films included.ie alien 4) Paul, Chappie and Rakka ✌👊🤘🖖 im calllin my next daughter sigourney no matter what my wife can say. Long live the Weaver
This is such a bold choice! I had to pause it for a moment when the narrator started talking about psychic control. This definitely needs to be a full series. Absolutely amazing.
@@vikctorrkreedd6418 Yeah, I'm tired of this stupid hair-splitting. We know who's at fault. People need to end this apologia and stand up for artistic freedom.
Thanks to all the people at Oats Studios for providing us this free and brilliant content. Despite what the haters/trolls say, I'm really looking forward to where this story is going and the possibilities Oats Studios has yet to reveal. Amazing time when we get this level of free film making. Cheers.
Rich A What else is there to add? Reptilians come and inside humans. After enslaving us, war with humanity, etc we humans lose. Humans vs Reptilians we will lose. They have psychic powers, shapeshifting capabilities, highly intelligent, etc.
Yes, other than AI dominating humans to excintmemt or the the even the other godly alien species wants to kill us and no longer says we are worthy of living. Because they created us, similar to when you're mother says she created you and she can take you out when she feels too. But, they would be our God as we say. Lol that's either dieing worth or she plan scary to think of lol
Look from another side. That lizard alien also was a victim for that nanorobot black slurry. Lizards do not move naturally, like something from inside pushing them. Partially this could be proved by short scene where some black stuff was going out of the human during the operation.
@@iIiWARHEADiIi Seems to me like they tried to make intelligent bionanorobots to augment themselves and their civilzation but something went wrong. They're probably don't even have free will. They seem to breathe Earth's atmosphere fairly easily, it might be the goo that's terraforming it for itself.
@@iIiWARHEADiIi There's a interview from blomkamp Where he goes into the lizards motivations and how the black stuff is just part of their technology. He talks about the ethereal aliens also. It's very enlightening.
This "20min video" is as free as your generic Marvel 3D flick is 15$. They still have production costs. And by the look of this short film they spent quite a bunch.
That's because big budget films have to meet political standards, I'm surprised this didn't given Sigourney Weaver is in it (she's a hardcore SJW / Marxist type who is anti guns and pro xenophillia so she ruined the Alien franchise (which she was paid a share in for Aliens because they couldn't afford her) by forcing her politics into it. Although this production house does seem to do diversity hiring, or 'positive discrimination' - you'll notice no straight white male can be a good person in this world or any world this production house makes.
thats because the market has been flooded with the whole "straight white male" thing. who is to say whats a good direction towards leading protagonists? who is to say whats a bad direction towards leading protagonists? the audience and obviously this is what the audience wants
Cliche the main idea may be but that theme of desperation and fighting despite this desparation is brought to life really well. Let alone the world they created, especially the enemy is terrifying and well thought. Since this is only the first episode, and free, it is like a stuffed trailer or a big ad that yells "buy me", nothing actually happens. We cannot say how the entire story will be, it might be garbage because of charcters or plot in future episodes or it might be epic who knows. Truly this series, by its world idea and concept, has a great potential from this episode.
I've watched this about 10 times over the years. This one and others like _ADAM, FIREBASE_ and my favorite of all, _ZYGOTE_ ! It's a crying shame these projects never became more as they were so compelling, detailed and engrossing, they made for the best "Trailers" of their time. I still hope *ZYGOTE* is eventually made into a film or series one day. And I will say this about it..... .... *BEST BODY HORROR CREATURE....ALL TIME!*
I was kind of indecisive on the ending. I wrote this story over 16 years ago. I was torn between the aliens winning, the energetic alien who were at war with the reptilians saving us or Amir saving the day or Amir being an alien himself from a prior humanoid planet that was conquered by aliens who was entrusted with infiltrating the human refugees. I wasn’t quite sure we’re to take it 😂
@@CheckStandX " or Amir saving the day or Amir being an alien himself from a prior humanoid planet that was conquered by aliens who was entrusted with infiltrating the human refugees" not that one, its something Reddit would come it up, its terrible
@The Marker in real life my bro god does not let them touch this planet cause if they all do than he just sent the angel of destruction and kill them all,, he creat them to be good but they grew greedy and kill their own jajaja they all doomed bro
Neil...you were born at the WRONG time my brother! You would have been absolutely GODLIKE in the 80's!!! Sadly this type of genius work is simply only accepted by a select few today and I am so proud to say I am one of those few!!! Keep doing your thing and give us more!!!!
They are not aliens. They are Reptilians and completely different from them. They work together to conquer mankind...Reptilians are lizard people with shapeshifting capabilities, highly intelligent, psychic powers, and much more.

I have watched this at least 10 times since it came out a few years ago and it blows my mind everytime. It also absolutely kill me that it's not a full movie or a series!! It's just an amazing story plus the effects and acting are top notch. I would love to see more but that 21 minutes was epic.
@@Mark_106 yes let's go get some heavy guns and look for them in the caves of Nevada haha 😂 they have done so much damage in real life that I would care going in with a nice and deadly gun. They kill kids for fun so no mercy for this fuckers in real life sadly wish it was just fiction shit.
It's Neil Blomkamp's studio, the director who made District 9 and Elysium. He founded Oats to produce shorts while testing these film ideas before turning them into features. Depending on the success, views and likes each short gets, big studios will be able to choose the best ideas to invest in. It's a great idea that results in a win-win-win situation: We watch great shorts for free, Oats profits from ad revenue while testing ideas, and studios are able to choose which project they like best and got the best reception on RU-vid and Steam.
Thanks for sharing the info. I do love this guys work. Both Elysium and District 9 are amazing and they're the most far right films in the mainstream. Plus they're so well done they're just plain fun to watch.
Here we are 6 years later and it's still just as good. Nothing seems outdated, the special effects are still perfect. I guess we'll have to accept that it's part of an awesome movie that was never made. I've seen hundreds since this came out, no endings I wonder if all these are pitch movies, and they don't put an ending in hopes that whoever they are pitching this to wants to see more also. I'm usually late to the party, and once again I'm probably stating the obvious.
We live in golden age of film? You got to be kidding me. Hollywood is full of shit, rebooting old movies, making GenericHeroMovie12, overusing CGI instead of real sets, costumes, etc. Original ideas nowhere to be found.
Politically Incorrect totally agree; however, the fact that film making is becoming more and more decentralized means that Hollywood garbage (example ghostbusters) will become less and less viable. in turn, they will need to up their game to keep our attention. 10 years ago it would be unheard of for a indie film maker to have the same editing tools as Hollywood, now, cheap and accessible.
Agreed. I think a potential Fallout movie should be structured like this. Different "POV" segments with different characters as the focus. If they stay away from attempting to portray any of the protagonists and use the original actors for side characters they want to include then I'm all in.
It would be amazing... I wonder if Neil has played any of the games. Give him 200$ million bucks and watch as that money is earned back. .. I would bank on him twice on sunday. It comes down to marketing. Even people that have never played a Fallout game would be interested after I got done campaigning for this if I was head of advertising.
Absolutely love Neill Blomkamps work, unique style and amazing talent. How he isn't putting out more films is a travesty. Especially loved the politician part, grotesque yet hilarious in a disturbing way
Personally I'm glad to see Blompkamp got to work with Sigourney Weaver on a new project rather than the Alien franchise. This will give him a freedom he could never get with Alien. Now let's hope Michael Biehn gets cast in some future project connected to this universe!
this film is weird bit in not glimp comparanle with terminator. neil has never heard of Flir thermal cameras, ground sensors, night vision, accoustic sensors, nore drones. modern combat is completly different! effects and good famous actors dont male a ducking film super b! nore money! money dont buy you love!
Johanna Tiemann Well, firstly it's totally understandable that they do not have such technology because the human population is getting close to zero. There is a scarcity of both resources and space for advanced technology. Even if they could build all that, they might just prefer to save time and resources. Maybe they are afraid of being spotted or find little use to such brittle tech. Similarly how many science fiction explains it's retro-futuristic design with the lower cost; higher trustworthiness and repairability of analog computers. Also, it makes sense for the aliens to concentrate it's attacks on factories, military facilities and cities. That is even shown in the film. The brightest minds fell under the attacks first with them. The pyromaniac is an exception to that exactly because he used his skills for evil and, as such, did not die with the rest of engineers, mechanists etc. Tl;dr, i know, but please argue with me.
+Robert Suarez- funny you say that, Bloomkamp had written a script and pitched another Alien film to the studios, was to take place after Alien 2 but before Alien 3. The story centering around Hicks (starring none other than Michael Biehn) who gets woken up out of hibernation by a special forces warship (from Hicks home base) who answered the distress call made by Bishop in the second movie. The special forces unit inform Hicks that the base has been over run by the Aliens and they had escaped seeking to find assistance when they came across Bishops distress signal. Hicks is meant to lead an fight to regain control of the base. Apparently Bloomkamp had been given the green light to start production but shortlu after announced it put on hold. Now we know why. This looks awesome!
I randomly clicked on this video out of curiosity, and did not expect such a masterpiece! I mean, wow, this is a perfect example of what movies SHOULD be!
Blomkamp and Weaver were going to be working on an Alien film together until Fox chickened out and let Scott finish his days directing the films that got him really going
Seriously so well done and so freaking terrifying. Was scared for a week after watching this lol. Also loved how the DMT 4th-Dimension aliens came to rescue us😂
Jeesh! It's been 3 years now and still counting. Will somebody just give Blomkamp the budget to make this a full length feature film or at least a mini series, already!? Like, how has this not been picked up by a major studio and put into production yet!? Seriously.
Waiting that too since long, since I saw it first time couple of years ago. Would be an amazing scenario for anything new, even just continue these micro-episodes, a serie or a blockbuster, anything else about it would be great... crossing fingers some scenarist focus on that in following years. And it’s not the only one ! Couple others of these short movies have lots of promesses in them, but I don’t know any that became blockbuster next. Sad... we need good new SF movies, few that came recently made me hyped about (on Netflix or others), such potential on these short movies, it’s a shame nothing more come from them. But well, let’s keep hoping...
Because it's not that commercial. It has no happy end. Or maybe because these things really exist and are here, manipulating our politicians, and there is no interest in leading the people to think that it could be real.
The way this is edited with narration and disjointed plot is f*&%ing awesome. I hope if Rakka gets extended into something more they keep it like this, stylistically speaking. I was fully drawn in, like completely hooked.
Why do you think the politicians want our guns? Especially under Biden. The chemtrails, being sprayed everyday. The radiation nuclear accidents. They are terraforming our planet. Check out movie they live. In the novel they look like these beings tho. The main character of movie tells us it's a documentary. They live we sleep.
This is what the future of Sci-Fi could be! A return to a blend of practical and computer generated effects, funded by the fans who have become de sensed to the artificial feel and paint by numbers structure of modern films in the genre. Remember ALIENS, TERMINATOR, PREDATOR, ROBOCOP!!!
Blompkamp is a genius he just needs the backing of a BIG movie company to see it and run with him....Top actors and actresses see it..so why can the money men.. He could be making them millions
Blomkamps movies has something in common with Terminator and Predator, his movies take place in present time. There is no need to creat a whole cgi world, the thing that ruined most movies. Many people like also big fights (many characters and/or a big scene) and that means a lot of cgi
Pi VN that is partly true and I concede that there are scenes in movies that would be incredibly difficult to replicate without prominent cgi. However we were approaching a near mastery of practical effects with films like T2 that had huge futuristic settings. Unfortunately the dominance of cgi has left the practical fx industry a shell. Given enough interest and support I thing even the fx heavy sci-fi of the future could be made fare more practically. Do I think this will happen? Probably not.
Potential for this to be not only a great movie(s), but also a series on Netflix or whatever hubb. Both would be the ultimate win!!! More content like this please!!!!!!
Just like The Gunfighter comedy short ; Too much is a waste. The Gunfighter is only about 8+ minutes long, but it is watched over and over again because the script is so brilliant. This epic sci fi might loose it's punch if it were a long film because you'd get lost in all the plots and sub-plots...etc. This film said what it needed to say without wasting an hour and a half of your time/life.
Nah, It sucks mate the whole series has a written by a 13 year old feeling. Can't believe this bullshit made it to Netflix, well 🙄actually I can in this Chinese, Katelyn Jenna flavor of retardation in a 💉 of a world we now live in.
i LOVE RAKKA AND DAKOTA FANNING IN ZYGOTE !!!!! THE VERY FIRST TIME I SAW THIS, I WAS SOOOO EXCITED THAT FINALLY ILL SEE A GREAT MOVIE TO WATCH!!! Late to the party with this gem of storytelling. It reminds me of when Hollywood actually cared about their final product. I'm gonna be pining for more for years to come, I loved this sci Fi short.
This is absolutely ridiculous...it's so good, it's so well written, its so well acted and it's so well directed. This should b a movie and a TV series and a comic all at once!
This is dark and grim as hell. Small wonder any big studio wants to do it. There's more in this short film than a lot of Hollywood blockbusters offer nowadays. I love it. Wish Blomkamp would make it into a feature.
Sigourney, your beautiful. So awesome your on board with Neill for this project. Time to write a new chapter on human nature as we struggle to preserve what is left of our species. Not that much different than the real world struggles we face.
