If this is such a good thing why is it only public figures fusing about this new holiday? If you go check out social media like TikTok, Facebook, etc. The regular people are VERY ANGRY that they can push this through so a bunch of federal employees get the day off today and yet lynching bills, Equality Act, etc, haven't passed.
Don't get your information from social media. Go and talk to real people, especially elders in the black community. Juneteenth being recognized nationally is a very good thing.

I'm an Hispanic male and I am happy that we have this new holiday. It's important that we have a day for our country to celebrate an end to slavery. I also feel that it should include a great big thank you to all of the white people who saw the horrors of slavery and knowing that the black man could not do it for himself, gave up their comfort and their lives to see it end. I am grateful, as we should all be, for the determination they had to make this country free for all.
True, and many died. It also took a MAJORITY of the white men to vote to end it. And that was way back then, when it was accepted by many, unlike today where slavery is considered repulsive by 99+ percent of the population.

And I’m sure his Kenyan father knew nothing of it either. I wish I was shocked at the negativity and racism in the comment section. Imagine being mad about a holiday that celebrates freeing the slaves. On July 4th, 1776 white people became free from Europe’s rule, almost 100 years later African Americans became free from slavery. African Americans have a right to celebrate our freedom the same way white americans can celebrate their freedom on July 4th. Juneteenth is as american as the 4th of July. Period point blank!

Most black people didn't know about Juneteenth until a few years ago. Many had to google it last year when it came to national attention. It's a very Texas centric holiday and not the day when slavery ended in the US. This was a tremendous moment, but hopefully not a final moment, because the Federal holiday needs to be moved to Dec. 6.
The description of what Juneteenth is on the news is false. Dec. 6th is the day the national holiday should be on, not Father's day. Black people celebrate Father's day too. People shouldn't have to chose between honoring their dad and observing the end of slavery. Dec. 6th is a more accurate day for the National holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in this nation and it's never on Father's Day.
