Oban is my childhood. The swimming pool and the pizza are my favourite in the whole city, along with going to WHsmiths to get sweets and magazines with my brother on the rainy days.
I took this trip in the summer of 1973, just over 47 years ago. I was a young man just released from service in the US Army in Germany. Oban was beautiful. Mull was beautiful. The Scottish people were beautiful. The "midges" were not. I learned about midges when my girlfriend and I tried to set up our tent in a field at the edge of town. That lasted about 10 seconds. We spent the night at the local bed and breakfast putting salve on our bites. Other than that, I have fond, fond memories of Oban and Mull and Scotland in general, which is a good thing since some of my ancestors came from Scotland.
I jave.been living on mull for 3 years.now. I go to tobermory high school. I go to high school on the bus from dearvaig village to tobermry. It takes half an hour. And i still love mull.
+bill vance Why on earth would the people of Mull stood by and let that happen? They lost something of their history, and a real treasure. Where did they take it to? Shame, shame Alas, there are so many fantastic places in the world to see, and I shall never set foot on them.
If it's the one that ran from Craignure to the castle.which I think it is,then somebody bought the castle and didnt want the train running there,I might be wrong ,but, I dont think so,sadly.
+bill vance They should have rerouted it. What a fantastic tourist attraction and a bit of history too. The dialect spoken by this gentlemen would identify him as being from the Isle of Mull? I love to hear dialects of English and Foreign accents as well. Languages and words hold me spell bound.
I've holidayed on the Isle of mull over the last 30 years with mine and my extended family it's our favourite place in the world and we have so many fantastic memories we could write a book. we haven't been on the island for 4 years due to my husband having a stroke but we're excited to be going in with our kids and grandkids on the 14th September for a long weekend to stay at Craignure campsite and can't wait.xx
I worked in the great western hotel on the esplanade as a chef from 1972 1975 loved Oban but it’s very commercial now shame I personally think tourism has ruined OBAN
Went to toronsey gardens and took miniature railway route, there was an impatient young man on board with his parents who clearly couldn't appreciate the delayu in getting steam up.he shouted come on driver, his parents were mortified and tried to quiten him but to no avail,my companions thought it was hilarious.
Why do all the Highlands and Islands have their houses painted like some childrens color book, and always its seems that its an ENGLISH man / woman commentating. Where are the Scots now??
