The fact that "Take time off" was a clue in itself is a nice touch. In fact, the whole sidequest is a nice touch in my opinion, I find it cool how it's all put together.

I love little side quests like this. I don't care what the prize is usually, I just enjoy piecing it all together.

I did this sidequest for the first time on the remaster, never finished on the original game for ps1. The whole quest is ridiculous af, how would anyone have been able to figure this without a strategy guide? Talking rocks was the worst idea in the game.

For the red rock press R2/Right Trigger to get the birds eye view to get the texture squares to make it easier

Hah! Stumbled upon this by complete chance when originally playing in '99. Ended up blundering my way through it; took me MONTHS to find certain places... just for a feckin' SCROLL! I was sooo pissed. Needed the Guide to solve the UFO Mystery though, and to see the Chocobo Dance. 😆

I'm writing up my own guide for personal use in ff8. You mentioned near the beginning that you should equip "encounter none" before going to mr. monkey for the first time. Does getting a random encounter break the sequence or was that just to make things easier?
