As a matter of fact, the former owners were an elderly couple; I'm actually surprised you considered that. Most people, when they see an animal suffer in any way, would wish absolute Hell on the person responsible; but when in the circumstance that he was overfed and the owners were an elderly couple, does it really feel right to express such hate like that? I mean; if they have dementia or something similar, they probably can't help it. Add that to owning an eating machine dog breed like a dachshund, and you're left with a dog that's as fat as a hog, like Obie used to be. Thankfully, a relative stepped in to get both them and the dog help. Now this is just what I'm inferring; I don't know if I'm right, but if the sources only say "relative". So, I imagine it wouldn't be one of their children, because the sources would have specified. Really, if a elderly person's physical and mental health is going down to the point where they can barely take car of themselves, much less a dog; their children (if they have any) should take the responsibility of getting them help. Thus, they should also take the responsibility of finding someone to help the dog. I'm guessing they had children, but were rarily visited by them; of course, I could be wrong.

@@mary11976 well, he was 12 in the end, substract the year of losing weight and the 6 years afterwards. So he was around 5 when he was rescued. Still pretty bad for joints and heart

His eyes were kinda sunken in, and he had a lot of wrinkles on his face; so I think he looked like that because of his excess fat. Basically, even his face was flabby. I'm not saying he wasn't miserable; I mean he could barely walk less than 20 steps without having to catch his breath, but I feel like his weight affected his facial expression physically as well as emotionally, if you get what I mean.

@@yoda5436 this! We had a rescue Chihuahua that belonged to a shut in old lady who died. She fed him nothing but cheap cans of vegetable soup for years. He was so fat it was sad. Miraculously he was pretty healthy (outside of asthma) & died in his sleep at age 15.

I'm glad a family member of the owner got him out of that situation. It was probably an older person with emotional issues who just wasn't able to discipline him and who was in denial of the harm they were causing.

Lots of older people who develop memory loss like dementia or Alzheimer’s will often forget that they fed their pets and will just keep feeding them because they keep forgetting. They have good intentions but their illness affects them so much. It’s a really sad situation for both the owner and pet

@@TailcoatGames The reason I was saying that is, I knew a family that did pretty much the same thing with their pet dog. They just kept giving it the wrong food and too much. When the dog passed away due to obesity, they went out and bought another dog and did exactly the same thing. Fortunately, someone reported them to the RSPCA and the dog was taken away and another family took on the responsibility and did very much the same as in the video. The dog is still alive and doing very well at about a quarter of the weight it used to be. The end of the story is, they were not allowed to own another pet. Incidentally, I use 2 accounts with you-tube, Willo's and Dave Clarke, so that is why you see different icons in my posts.

No clocks don't help, even if its light out she'll think it's either early AM or late PM and she should go to sleep. She's nearly died before because she didn't remember anything about her medication and condition and frequently insists she's in her 70s when she's reaching 90. Yeah. I fully believe that two adults with Alzheimers would overfeed their dog. For one I don't expect people with the disease to be able to work a telephone let alone have enough sense to work an app. If they themselves didn't have a caretaker then it was a disaster waiting to happen.
