No, that is a fake-out. Everything he says in that moment is calculated, it's cruel psychological warfare. No one brings "the good that remains in him" until Empire Strikes Back, when Luke is in the picture.
Obi-Wan removed the left side of the helmet, Ahsoka the right side. Both times Anakin was able to pull through the darkness for just a few moments. A few years later, Luke would remove the helmet of Vader fully, to show that Anakin Skywalker had defeated his darkness completely.
Think about how obi wan was tossed aside by qui gon for THE CHOSEN ONE...and to see what anakin became and what obi wan did... how proud and heart broken qui gon must of been. Anakin was always jealous and resentful of Ben. But kenobi who should of been the jealous one loved anakin
The greatest lightsaber duel in all of Star Wars! The choreography, the cinematography, and, the utterly amazing, emotional performances from McGregor & Christensen.
All of the comments above are incorrect. The best lightsaber duels were in the fan film (Darth Maul: Apprentice) on youtube. That fan film alone has crushed anything Disney has put out.
Obi Wan litteraly never lost against Anakin. During the practice Obi Wan won, end of episode 3 Obi Wan won, in the serie Obi Wan wins. The only time Vador wins is in episode 3 of the serie but Obi Wan hasn't been training for years. Also in episode 4 Obi Wan "looses" but he is way older and he doesn't really loose, he just turns his lightsaber off and choose to separate his spirit from his body. According to me, Obi Wan is the most difficult jedi to beat. Maybe not the most powerfull but his consistence, his calm, his force and his skills makes him the best overall. What a beast.
From what I've seen, the vast majority of the "criticism" directed at the series boils down to "They didn't do it exactly the way I wanted it done, therefore it is bad and a failure."
Like everything some people decided they don't like becuase its not the Show /Movie/book they made up in their heads!! What happened to Just having Fun???
@@AlbertoMartinez765 Yes. Some fans want to decide what is to be in a series or movie when it is not their place to do so. George Lucas is the creator, Jon and Dave are carrying on his vision and trying to influence others to do so. Fans can enjoy reading the books, comics but they need to leave it in the hands of these people to decide what to bring in.
Mainly they just spent too much unproductive time with Reva. They gave her very little character insight and development in the excessive screen time she got. More time should have been spent on Vaders current state of mind. Reva is a painfully boring character. Tala was way more interesting.
@@moabman6803 I respectfully disagree. I think they set Reva up to be a very interesting character the more we learned about her and her motives. I’m excited to see where they take her from here. I do wish they’d have given more of vaders trauma and pain more time though as well. I think there were other scenes that could’ve been shortened to give that some time.
lol I love how Palpatine is basically like "Dude, you lost, get over it. Stop wasting your time on this guy." But I imagine part of that is done to intentionally keep Vader in a state of rage so he can manipulate him. Like holding a carrot out in front of a donkey.
You mentioned liking Leia's gloves. I believe those are the gloves that Obi-Wan bought her on Daiyu. That means both Luke and Leia have a physical gift from Obi-Wan. Leia has the gloves (and Tala's holster) and Luke has the toy ship. Loved that you caught Haja's reaction to Obi-Wan believing in him. Back in Part II Haja had a similar reaction when Obi-Wan called him by name with Haja saying "You remembered my name.". The tone Haja said it in made it very apparent everyone simply dismisses him and doesn't even bother to remember his name. It meant a lot that Obi-Wan remembered and then that Obi-Wan put trust in him. These instances also say a lot about who Obi-Wan is at his core.
You guys brought up a great point.. Remember in episode 3 of the series. Vader was so enraged he blamed it all on Obi-Wan, "Saying this is what you made me" And then in episode 6 Saying he killed Anakin.. You can feel the conflict in him.. Just like Luke did.. It shows great layers of vaders character, and how tortured he really is.. Great reaction guys
No. He blames Obi-Wan for dismembering him and leaving him to burn and die, forcing him to become more machine than man, and chiding Obi-Wan for not killing him when he had the chance, because Vader obviously comes back to haunt him - but he doesn't blame Obi -Wan for not for the choices Anakin made that got him there, and continues to make. He was already Darth Vader when that happened - a civilian-slaughtering, child-murdering monster. When he says "you didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did" it's calculated psychological warfare. Vader is saying the most hurtful thing to Obi-Wan that he can. In saying this, he is standing firmly by his actions and beliefs, demonstrating that he has accepted who and what he is, he is making it impossible to accept Obi-Wan's apology, and robbing Obi-Wan of that apology.
Guys imagine hayden and ewan filming this episode and thinking "fans this is the moment you all have been waiting for" and man this series saved the star wars franchise
When Vader says **"I am not your failure"** , his face is covered in blue light as if Anakin Is accepting the apology from Obi wan . Then his face turns red , when Vader returns with darkness . This was so symbolising in a way that even though He's Darth Vader there's is still some Anakin left in him only those who really know him can take out .(Another instance Ashoka ) and Finally Master Qwai Gon for 5secs after two and a half decades Overally what a great short series which greatly connects the events , also keeping the characters comically accurate . I will be not mad or sad if we don't get a season 2 . Loved your reaction and review guys
They did the same lighting trick in The Force Awakens, when Kylo Ren and Han Solo were standing on that narrow bridge, "talking." Starkiller Base was, at that moment, just about to suck up the rest of the Star, preparing to fire its primary weapon, and at the beginning of their little "conversation" there was bright light streaming in through the crumbling roof. (And Rey & Finn watching from above while Chewbacca watched from below.) Kylo Ren seems more conflicted, at first, until the light was gone completely, and that's when he ignited his lightsaber, running Han Solo through. (Causing everyone watching to scream and cry out, and Chewy to fire his bowcaster at him in a rage.) It wasn't until the light was totally gone, and Kylo Ren's face was awash in only the remaining deep red that he struck. It was a very effective use of light and color, in that moment. Just like here, shining up on what we can see of Anakin's face, under that mask. ✌ Edit; BTW, it's "Qui-gon" lol not "Qwai Gon" (But, whatever right?! 😅👍)
Hello there ! And Anakin finally getting high ground (even so he lost later) and underestimated Obi wan's powers And Master Qui Gon for 5 seconds after 2 and half decades ...... I can live happily now .😅😆❤️
Anakin really did give Kenobi a new perspective which released himself from the guilt. I needed this as a fan as well. I blamed Kenobi as well for a part of Anakin’s fall.
No I am sorry ..Anakin Skywalker killed off the Jedi Master Mace Windu..in order to save Palatine..then said "What have I done ! " Then Palpatine said "Henceforth you are Darth Vader." And Darth Vader murders younglings training to become Jedi.
If you ever blamed kenobi for the shit anakin did you my friend ARE TRULY LOST. kenobi was the one who got shafted for THE CHOSEN ONE...he never resented or was jealous of anakin. He always loved and taught him right from wrong
He was already up there, and I know this show his been clunky, and inconsistent, and divisive at times, but it fully solidified for me that Obi-Wan is my all-time favourite Jedi.
All the emotions that episode poured out from all of us was insane. That fight between Obi/Darth was epic beyond words, the lighting of the red & blue reflecting from Anis face to me showed his struggle. There was a tiny sliver of Ani still in there as we see later on. I completely lost it when Obi raised those rocks & sent them to Vader, still giving out lessons to his former padawan 😎. Hello there & Qui-Gon were the cherry on top. Excellent reaction from the best on RU-vid!
It tied together and set up so much that we know to already happen and still delivered on the emotion! Seeing the little sliver of Ani only to get pushed aside by Vader was excellent. Vader's ego getting quashed by his old Master was perfect
Watching these fan reactions to the Obi-Wan series I’ve come across a sure sign that someone was a minor when the prequels came out: They tear up when Qui-Gon shows up in the last scene. Which basically means that the prequels meant roughly as much to them as the original trilogy meant to a previous generation. I kind of already knew it, but it’s interesting (and kind of moving) nonetheless to see it for real. That said, I loved this series more than anything in the franchise since the original films. It had heart. Something that has been sorely missing from the franchise for decades. Like someone said: It has made some of the movies better than they used to be. And that’s more than at least I had ever hoped for.
Another thing I love so much about this is seeing how blue lightsaber color shows up at Vader's face (Anakin light still there) but seeing how quickly it go's red (Darth Vader dark side) really shows ya Kenobi told Luke the truth in a new hope about how Darth Vader killed Anakin.
Most intense and emotional finale, especially the battle between Vader and Obi Wan. Pararells between the exposed cracked helmet with Ahsoka and Obi Wan. Chills! Also we finally get Qui-Gonn!! Hoping for season 2!
You know, the coolest thing to think of after this episode is the fact that Leia will one day grow up and give birth to a son. What will she name him? Ben.
Just my opinion, but there’s a lot of really good channels to watch for reactions, and for whatever reason your guy’s is the one I look forward to the most. Keep it up! You guys are awesome.
Anakin might hate what Obi Wan did to him but the 'you didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did' line, felt like the Anakin inside of vadar was telling Obi Wan that this isn't your fault , I was gone before we fought.
WELL..Yeah..Anakin killed off the Jedi Master..Mace Windu.. to actually save Palpatine. Who designated him "Darth Vader" afterwards. Then Darth Vader killed off younglings training to become Jedi.
Notice how Anakin’s eyes change between his own blue eyes and the Siths (Darth Vader) yellow eyes suggesting that he has ALWAYS had the conflict of good and evil in him which comes to a head in Return Of The Jedi when he completes the prophecy that he IS and ALWAYS was the chosen one who would end the Sith and NOT Luke
20:03 I love how you did the hand stance 😂😂 me and my brothers always do that when impersonating palpatine 😂 I find it so funny how he stands like that 😂 he appears this brittle frail old man but he can literally kill anyone 😂
You are me and I am you during this reaction!! Lol the tears just kept coming! Just a great job, entirely. I’ve fallen in love with SW because of your page, fabulous reaction, as always. P.S. Julia your eye makeup!!! Yes ma’am!!! ❤️
I love how they had already predicted what the people would complain about and they had already worked it out so it would be explain (such as how come Leia was so 'cold' in her msg to Ben in A New Hope, it was explained when Obi Wan told her they had to keep their attachment quiet, how he didn't kill Vader but in Ep 5 he tells his Padawan that Jedi defends, not kill etc). All in all. a solid series. I loved it
I really enjoy the fact that the Darth Vader's declaration that Obi Wan didn't kill Anakin, but that Vader did, also neatly filled the plot hole in Episode 4 (which nobody would realize until Episode 5, during the Vader/Luke lightsaber duel). Until Hayden actually said that line, Obi Wan's explanation in "A New Hope" was thought of as spinning the narrative. Now, on the other hand, it can be viewed as him truly seeing it the way that Vader explained it.
What an amazing episode! I was completely emotional from the fight until Obi-Wan said, "Hello there" to Luke. Did you notice that when Anakin came through for a moment to tell Obi-Wan that he was guiltless in his fall, that the light was blue on Anakin's face? Then the dark side returned, as did his anger and his need for vengence, and the red light returned.
As always, you did not disappoint me; of the best reactions. I think those of us who put aside the knowledge that no one was going to die... we believed the final combat more and enjoyed it.
It just goes to show that you don't need to have death to cause drama and tension, they did a great job with how to show character development to get to points we are already familiar without sacrifice. Thank you!
This is easily one of the greatest moments of Star Wars for me. Next to Luke vs Vader in Return of the Jedi, Obi Wan vs Anakin in Revenge of the Sith & The Clone Wars finale. Seeing this, it enhances the experience of the fuller story. He had a moment of conflict, his eyes turning from natural to sith red with both Obi Wan and Ahsoka. They were like his siblings, but the only one who could snap Anakin out of it was the only thing he had left of Padme. Luke & Leia.
I kind of viewed Vader claiming he killed anakin as more of his arrogance. He smiled a bit when he said it, so maybe there was a little bit of anakin giving obi wan some closure or its vader being unable to admit that obi wan beat him. “you didn’t kill me, I did.”
Remember........Vader had to learn a new fighting style because of that uncomfortable suit the Emporer put him in........Can you image if his suit was upgraded to move like he did when he was Anikin, he would be unbeatable.
I'd put my thoughts in the comments, but I have the privilege of being able to call you both and nerd the hell out immediately after we'd all watched it :) I enjoyed that as much as I did the episode itself!
“We’re starting to see the foundations of the rebellion” you see the foundations of the rebellion in bad batch season 1 somewhere in the beginning of the season
It explain why Obi Wan calls him only Darth not more Anakin or even Vader...just Darth, just his Title. We can now understand why Vader holds back in Episode 4 when he confronts Kenobi. He feared him in that Moment but was pretty sure of his Power again that he calls himself as a Master, a Superior. Nice to see his the switch of blue and yellow eyes. Vader calmed down or even a blinded Anakin by rage was visible but sucked back into the mind of the chosen one. You can hear the switching of Vader and Anakin. Anakin said that he isn't Kenobis failure and that he didnt killed him, then Vader replies he did. Its so cool to see the battling between the two personalities. Just like in the fight with Ahsoka Vader hold back and thought about her words. In Kenobis case is it more worse and conflicted and you hear it from the Dark Lord. Such a amazing and wonderful writing.🙌🏽
I actually hope that they do not make a season 2 of Obi-wan. Because I feel this season gave everything necessary to complete the storyline about Vader and Obi-Wan. And there is no need for anything to be added until Luke and Vader.
I would love for Disney to make a live-action version of the clone wars with Hayden Christensen and Ewan Mcgregor. I don't think it would make much sense for them to do it but I can dream xD
When I was younger, I liked Anakin because of how bad ass (even if he was emotional at times) he was in the prequel trilogy, but this show has made me appreciate Obi-Wan a lot more. I love how compassionate he is even if Anakin still thinks the Jedi are evil at this point in the timeline. THAT is why Obi-Wan was a master, and Anakin was only a Jedi Knight 🤷🏻♂️
Also, did you see how Palpatine’s eyes widened in a threatening way when he said “if your past cannot be overcome…” he was about to torture Vader even more
I just want you guys to know I love your take on this. If you look very closely at the lighting on Anakin/Vader's face during that moment... I wash of Obi Wan's blue saver comes through and Anakin comes out for a moment to tell him that it was not on him. He didn't kill Anakin... Vader did. And then the red comes back out and Vader's hate is there. Such a good call. Thanks for this!
they have to change the final duel and the dialogue in episode 4 now. Thats how much more Vaders Backstory has been improved. It's so good that we MUST change the duel and dialogue scene now at some point.
Anakin’s story is the best part of all of Star Wars . And this episode makes episode VI so much more incredible, when he returns as Anakin and restores balance to the force.
I enjoyed the series. This is much better than them doing stand alone movies. Also Vivian Lyra Blair as Leia makes the series. She was not only believable in the character but gave you an emotional connection between them that you didn’t probably know existed when in the future she reaches out to him as her only hope.
I recommend you guys watch Star Wars Despecialized Edition this die-hard Star Wars fan called Harmy recreated the original 1977 version of the film if you watched Star Wars special edition you notice they edited some scenes. He also recreated empire strikes back and return to the Jedi original versions
Would have wanted the obi vs vader duel to be the last scenes, the reva scene is good but shouldn't be after that scene in my opinion. The fuel was epic, the conversation epic...except... How American haydens voice is when he says skywalkerrrrr. I've watched it 20 times now, still feel teary when he says.. Anakin is gone... I am what remains
So awesome to see Ben kick Anakin's ass again...."as wise as Master Yoda, as powerful as Master Windu." This might finally beat the fight at the end of Jedi as the best fighting scene in the franchise.
You know, that Leia and Obi scene at the end makes the fact they never saw each other again because he died so that she could make it off the Death Star suck that much harder.
That rematch went hard! The Obi Wan vs Darth Vader we needed! a great pace and hard hitting even that half Mask Anakin connection with Obi-Wan made me Cry especially when Dark vader Said you didn't kill anakin Skywalker I did you can see The blue lightsaber Glow in his face then back to red Now that was truly emotional moment🥺💙❤ I loved those few surprises at the end too easily one of my favorite Star Wars Finales.
The saber light change during that moment was perfection. There's a really cool vader mythos statue being released by Sideshow which has him with damage to his helmet, it looks awesome I recommend checking it out.
Reva DOESN’T want to kill anything related to Vader, she DOESN’T know Luke’s origin, she just knows he’s somebody being hidden by Obi-Wan and Bail because of being force sensitive and she’s channeling her hate and frustration for not being able to kill Vader with what she’s learned all this time: killing any Jedi or force sensitive people. Of course then she realizes she’s becoming like Vader and can’t do it.
The one thing Vader has failed to do is listen to anyone but Palpatine. Consumed by his rage and emotions. Its great to show that Vader always has the ultimate failure of being beaten by his master, both on Mustafar as an apprentice and at the point Vader thinks he's at his strongest.
people were all salty bout some clunky parts but i say it was all reva's story line but her's wrapped up nicely and ended up being necessary so i think the whole show great, f teh haters.
