@Siddharth Sriram Clone Wars show got me back into it plus what kind of dumb question are you even trying to ask lol of course people are interested in something that's apart of what they already like
@Siddharth Sriram I don't think I've seen a single person ever say they like the sequels lol literally everybody only has negative things to say about them. They made billions because it's Star Wars. Everybody hated them but still watched them. Couldn't tell you the exact reason why, probably just because people love Star Wars and maybe had hope they would be good.
I don't disagree. But I also smirk because at no point in the prequels was Anakin good on screen. He wasy always a drag. Whiny, pouty...outside of maybe Jar Jar, the worst scenes in each prequel movie revolved around anytime any version of Anakin spoke. yet...I really wanna see Vader and Obi-wan go balls out regardless of how it breaks the canon.
@Siddharth Sriram The late 90s are called "prequels" (fwiw). anyway, the prequels don't break the canon. they flesh-out the canon. the sequel "trilogy" (it's a trilogy in name only) doesn't even make coherent sense within itself, yet alone make sense with the movies that came before them. A lot of ppl still love them though. Star Wars is a lot like professional sports. Once a person is a committed fan, she/he tends to cheer for his team no matter what they do. Fan is short for "fanatic," after all.
@@reek4062 Seems to me you haven't yet gotten around to any of the Legends EU, the Clone Wars, Force Unleashed games, or even some of the good stuff off the new Canon. Telling fans that they are impossible to please and then feeding them garbage is the biggest cop out for lazy production anyone has ever heard. How many of us are still paying for those insults?
Star Wars fans are impossible to please. Look at the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. It has some minor flaws, but it's great. The show gives the fans what they want and has a true Star Wars feel to it, yet the fans still complain.
@@reek4062 the mandalorian gave me more "star wars feels" than kenobi even though it has none of the characters we know and love before. None of them even know what Force is, yet it was still far more entertaining than this obi-wan turned babysitter shit of a show. They plastered hayden all over the marketing and i feel like he only has 2 days on set showing his face. Like seriously if you think this is great then you've set the bar too low for yourself.
I really, really wanted to like Obi-wan. I think we all did. But this just confirms for all of us that Disney has some kind of intractable problem with hiring or its current team members. I'm seeing the same core problems in every Star Wars property they release recently with the exception of the Mandalorian, which I think Dave and Jon must have made in a vaccuum The worst part is seeing Ewan Mcgegor get done like this on his own show, thank god he has pretty good dialogue, hearing him speak on any occasion has been the best part of this show
I can't tell if you intentionally used the wrong "your" as a jab at the writers not knowing how to write, or that's just the typical typo I see in comments like... all the damn time, lol.
And cocain lots and lots of cocain. They probably had a rule of for every bump you add an idea to the board. *Sniff "Obi Hides the Princess in an oversized Imperial coat"
The Leia running from the bad guys scene was my first major red flag for this show being cheap AF and Disney-fied. Then the Reva scene doing unnecessary parkour on the rooftops sealed it for me. It's like she was showing off for an audience of no one. She almost seemed to be having fun...which completely defies her end goal. That would have been a perfect opportunity for them to showcase the fact that the Inquisitors can use their lightsabers to fly. (Goofy I know) The show has just gotten progressively more cheap and cheesy since then. Leia under the big coat was egregious.
Leia under the coat was just straight up stupid. Like how the fuck are at least 50ish troopers that are all around, not noticing that? I was literally expecting any officer to say something like "Hey, identification", or chatting under their breath, "that officer doesn't look right". But no, since it's Disney, the good guys are invisible and get away mostly hassle free. Its's honestly feeling like a live action Rebels. Almost every situation where the protags are supposed to be busted or die, they don't. And it's not even a struggle for them to escape or complete the mission. Shake of shame man, plus I really wanted to love this series, I think we all did.
Why are any of you people on here?? True Star Wars fans know and understand how it works!! Wait till the end of the series to judge you no brains- all day on your phones idiots
I was just about to agree with you until you mentioned the helicopter thing with the lightsaber. And you say that Reva doing parkout is silly...? I mean, at the moment to introduce the inquisitors and their skills to the audience, the producers must have pondered what to show, something that looks cool, yet in a scale from 0 to 10 of silliness falls in a 5. So they chose the parkour thing, wich isn't as stupid as three morons flying with plasma blades wich have no way to create an upward impulse.
@@as-ep7ev If you could fly...why would you jump across the rooftops doing unnecessary flips and stunts? Even if she didn't fly...she was showing off for no reason.
Part of the cheap feel is the lack of aliens, which also detracts from the Star Wars feel. It was so jarring to see Obi Wan in the 1st ep on a truck with maybe 1 (lazily visualized) alien amidst a whole bunch of humans. And that kept happening.
I made the lightsaber props on the prequels they were very lightweight and easy to throw around. I definitely think the new sabers are a problem on this new show.
@@Remnicore ha yeah I'm not lying, I made hundreds of lightsabers and spent alot of time on set with Ewan, Hayden, Samuel L, Christopher Lee etc. The rods would bend often but they were great to fight with as it didnt matter if you pushed them too hard. We would also grind down the buttons so they could twirl them easily. I do think the light interaction works well though. there was a few shots in the prequels where lit ones were used but they were bulky and cabled to a power source so only good for close ups.
The new lightsabers feel like baseball bats. The old ones looked like they weighed like a feather which made rhe movements so smooth. I did not like the scene where obiwan took 4 hits to take a stormtrooper down when rescuing Leia. They really need to improve on the lightsaber department.
I felt the exact same thing, it's good to see others realizing this as well. also the choreo with the lightsabers feel a bit off. thanks for commeting this!
Star Wars has some of the best make-up effects guys in the world at their disposal and the Grand Inquisitor looks nothing like the race he belongs to. The Fifth brother looks terribly cheap and doesn't even have the same shade of grey skin or markings. If you're going to have characters appear across animation and live action, characters you invented no less, act like you care about consistency.
This is Disney we’re talking about, same company who has the money to make Bill Nighy into Davy Jones and James Spade into Ultron... yet instead we just get a white dude and an asian dude in some makeup...
There is a case to be made that the animation is stylised and will look different to the live action. Like animated Dooku looks nothing like live action Dooku. I agree much of this show looks off though. The Grand Inquisitor just looks wrong.
@@chippievan as most current-production star wars media is these days. the good the awesome part of expanded universe was writers werent commissioned. they volunteered to write the books and then put it forth to george lucas himself, he greenlit every eu book and game with the lucas stamp of approval. my problem with the games is the only reason star wars games pre-disney had good graphics was because they had the budget to not only make the game fun but also give it good graphics. now??? there is no game, only graphics, just some pixels on my screen, cool okay, which you wont even be able to see without a car-price graphics card.
They see something that people like and they copy it. The Mandalorian did well because it was created by passionate people who had a cool idea. Obi Wan exists because money. Mandalorian only has so long. I'm happy with the first and second series, but I don't hold out any hope that it will continue to be good.
They've already started to ruin Mando by injecting his incredibly important story arc into a shitty Bobba Fett show. By the end of Mando S2 Mando & Grogu were separated for good and when S3 starts Mando will have already been united with Grogu. If you haven't watched Bobba you'll be lost and if you did watch Bobba now Mando is gonna suffer because S3 was supposed to be about Mando without Grogu and Grogu training far away, no build up to anything there.
@@TK0S3 I liked Boba Fett, but I agree that it came across as concerning. That is why I said it only has so long. There are hints of executive meddling there. It all depends on how long Favreau and Filoni can fend them off.
Exactly, Filoni and Favreau already proved but know and put it to work. Not a 10/10, but at least isnt a mediocre 5/10 crap like this sh*t that they named "Obi-Was Kenobi"
"I know what you're gonna say, tamper your expectations." No absolutely not, it's THE Obi-Wan Kenobi show, everyone had high expectations for a good reason.
Man i stopped patronizing this trash after disney and fans defended the last jedi. I watched ep9 out of obligation, vomited, and walked away. No amount of good mandalorian episodes is going to rescue the main idea of star wars from the rotten core of its rebirth. I saw like 2 clips of kenobi and just reconfirmed the lack of respect and basic awareness of how to handle the material. Stop buying this stuff because youre just paying them to make it even worse.
They didn't think it was fine. They sat through the screenings themselves, knew it was terrible and then created a narrative that if you don't like this then your racist to try and hide from criticism behind the actresses'skin color.
Something that bothers me is the atmosphere, take a look at mandalorian s1 for example, everything felt genuine, and if you had a chance to look around the scene, it feels like you would actually see the rest of the scenario because of how great the atmosphere was executed, while in obiwan and BOBF feels like a tv show, and if you had the chance to look around the scenario, you would end up seeing the show set, a big green screen and some cameras.
Having Vader and Obi-Wan's epic reunion take place in a gravel quarry, like it was a planet from an old episode of Doctor Who, is the biggest thing that made the show feel cheap to me.
Thats exactly what I thought, a supposed iconic scene in a quarry out the back of a sand and gravel company..... ugh, Boba Fett was the last straw... what am i doing?
Right??? I thought it would be epic I couldn’t stop looking forward to seeing them meet for the first time since Mustafar. Then the poor lighting and miserable setting made me hyper disappointed. I’m pretty sure they will be one more duel by the end of the show but I doubt it will be very much spectacular. I’d love to eat those words more than anything but I have a feeling I probably won’t have to.
I agree with it feeling cheap, surprised more people havent been saying it. Everything from the editing, choreography, direction and musical score just feels half baked at best
I felt the same about The Book of Boba Fett too (and some Mandalorian season 1 episodes). Some of the performances really break the immersion of being in Star Wars.
You can easily tell Disney didn't feel the need to try with this series since they already knew people were going to watch just for Ewan and Hayden. And it definitely shows. Andor and The Mandalorian are so much better.
puuuh so glad to see many people feel the same way. i started watching the series without getting any other opinion in the first place. And it felt so weird, i was like, is it just me or does this look and feel like a fan film?
I binge watched The Book of Boba Fett, then proceeded to watch one Episode of Obi Wan Kenobi just now. Within 5 minutes I noticed the stark contrast in quality of the two shows in every single aspect. I totally agree with you - it felt like a fan-made film.
it feels more like a play, like even the bad guys feel like their in on it trying to make a good choreographed play, thats the only way i can describe it
THATS WHAT IM SAYING, like the Third Sister character seems more like shes trying to be an actor more than the actual character. It so shitty to watch but i still enjoy it
The lack of trauma from Obi Wan in the most recent episode was absolutely baffling to me. He just faced his old friend after believing him to be dead for 10 years, saw what a monster he’d become, and nearly died in the process… we see 0 affect of that on him. Like, wtf Disney. I wanna see Obi Wan express some damn emotion
I think it's worse than that because he's supposed to already know about Anakin being alive. In the original trilogy he talks about hiding Luke from his father to protect him from the emperor
Same with vader, he had no major dialogue or no major emotion after seeing Obi Wan, it didn’t feel very impactful. The writing on this show is god awful and so terrible.
Sure he chokes out the one inquisitor lady, but there was no raw emotion on it. It feels like this show is too afraid to bounce away from family friendly (minus when they cut a man in half for shock value, but given Lea a literal child didn’t even react to seeing that or any other person die in this show, it doesn’t really count) As a casual star wars fan the fan service means nothing to me and the writing on this show is as frustrating as the last season of Game of Thrones. And dear lord did the chase scenes suck balls
When Vader force-ragdolls Obi Wan over the fire and smacks him down like a sausage on a barbecue, he was completely powerless, there was no reason he would survive that. The chick didn't even intervene in time, it's VADER himself that stopped himself and freed Obi Wan. It's subtle, but if you didn't notice watch the scene again. So basically it means Darth Vader thought it was too fucked up to burn his old master to death. And when the chicks come and make a diversion to save him, there is a big zoom on Vader's face while he does nothing about it, as if he was thinking "yeah I'll let him go". To be honest, and it's the worst part, I'm not even sure they did that on purpose or if they just had no idea how to write something logical out of this situation. Because right now, if you think about it, Darth Vader was more merciful than Obi Wan. He could have done anything whatsoever to him, but he chose to stop torturing him and let him go.
I noticed visually it looks way too polished. When you watch Rogue One it has gritty look to it, kind of like a soft WW2 film (saving private ryan). Even though they have the awesome Unreal Engine to help with filming. It does feel cheap for some reason or story line feels lazy or super slow paced
I feel like a show about one of the biggest and important characters in Star Wars should’ve gotten really great production quality and a ton of more care and thought put into it. It amazes me how cheap they made a show about Obi Wan Kenobi of all people.
Yes exactly, it feels like a C tier show. Why wouldn't they give this a much bigger budget and better writers and directors? It feels like a fan production filmed over the weekend.
@@dragerdet I used to think prequels were bad, but i rewatched the phantom menace after so many years, It's actually a lot deeper than people realize, and it used a lot of revolutionary tech for it's time, many modern movies wouldn't exist if ILM didn't innovate in their technology which were used and tested in Star Wars
Its very disappointing how they are taking one of the most famous and coolest fictional characters of all time and doing him dirty. Im also disgusted on how bad obis and vaders first encounter was. these last 2 episodes better be amazing.
I believe it has fo do with the first 10 years Obi-wan has ptsd disconnect a bit from the force and is this battered Veteran just trying to survive while trying to watch over Luke. He had been through a lot. It took a bit to be who he is in New Hope. Or in Rebels when he absolutely demolishes Maul.
@@jbar85jb22 I agree but the way they set him up in this show shows that in anytime in that 10 years he was surprised by either Vader or the inquisitor’s, he would’ve gotten both himself and Luke killed. Or worse he would’ve ran away and watch Luke get killed. :/ I like his PTSD but he should still be able to hold his own and do his duty that yoda ordered him to do.
When they chased leia I was laughing because they could’ve literally jumped over that BRANCH it wasn’t even a tree. Also finally someone else noticed the magic tunnel. I think it’s clear anything Star Wars not made by Dave filloni will most definitely suck
I think everyone noticed the “magic tunnel,” but there are so many silly moments and plot holes, it just falls down the list compared to everything else lol.
It feels "cheap" for a simple reason. Because most of the filming was shot in "Volume" meaning 90% of everything is CGI. The sets aren't even real forcing the actors to make limited movements especially when it comes to lightsabers. Why is Disney so against the building of complete sets, they can't say it is a cost issue. The Batman was shot in volume, but they actually built complete sets. Not just a pathway then green screen for everything else.
@@reek4062 Technology has gotten better. That the prequels still look as good as they do in contrast to this is embarrassing. Just compare the CGI for General Grievous to pretty much anything here and you can see the difference in quality.
You forgot our favorite part. After escaping/killing the stormtroopers, Ben couldn’t figure out that he and Leia could have just WALKED AROUND THE RED LASER GATE versus failing to shut it off and shooting at it to turn it off. They weren’t even taking the vehicle through it, they were WALKING. Just walk around the gate, it’s that simple!
The first thing that tipped me off to the cheapness was when Obi-Wan literally saw images of him being distributed and still left his hood down while wandering around. Just broke all narrative relativity and they kept on doing it with a bunch of other things. I want to see the overall story arc, but I'm not enjoying actually watching the show.
Right?? I was watching this this my dad, and we were yelling at the tv because he was walking around in his Jedi robes out in the open. It’s even worse because he m, for whatever reason, took off his disguise that obscured himself moments after entering the public. Like what lmao
I thought the same thing. And then when they just barely get away in the cargo transport (which Leia even complains moves very slowly), Reva just watches it go, metaphorically shaking her fist? Could she not have just jumped in a ship and followed it, or make a simple comm call to have some troopers follow it (or even take it down)? The biggest disappointment for me with the show is the lack of logical conclusions to the harrowing situations the protagonists find themselves in. Like they just said "good enough" and let's move the plot along, without considering how ridiculous the plot holes are.
it also doesnt help that a majority of the action or main shots are just repeats from previous films. literally frame by frame the same. just lazy all around
When I saw those two stormtroopers get slapped lightly on the helmet once and fall all over the place I was so shocked I didn't even laugh. It simply makes no sense whatsoever.
This what happens when you have a director who hasn't directed much action films and incompetency of Disney because of their beef with George Lucas. Its Sad that they are not working on Kenobi series (a show that we were dying to see) as well they did on Mandalorian. Some say its about the budget... bitch please, George Lucas barely had our modern technology and props. Still managed to make vintage Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Natalie Holt's score is another factor that makes it feel cheap. When you watch _Star Wars_ you expect music with grandiosity, like John Williams and Michael Giacchino did so well. Ludwig Göransson went in a different direction but it fit _The Mandalorian_ and it worked in the context of that show. Holt's music just feels like an extremely bland... I don't know what it's trying to be. Is it trying to go in a different direction like Göransson did or is it trying to imitate Williams? Either way it doesn't work. The melodies are almost ridiculously unmemorable and the instrumentation is colorless (where are the brass? the woodwinds?).
I guarantee they didn't have the budget to hire a full symphony orchestra for Kenobi. They did for the John Williams theme but hiring musicians is expensive as hell and there is a lot more time to fill up than a single movie.
You’re not alone in this, no use of the imperial march..battle of the heroes, etc. it was so powerful in Fallen order when they used Anakins dark deeds when vader showed up
Agreed about the music. This is a TV series so I didn't expect a major film score, but Disney owns all the rights to the Star Wars music. They have no excuse not to use the leitmotifs associated with specific characters. A generic ominous theme played when Vader showed up instead of an arrangement of the Imperial March. Leia, despite being a major character here, does not have her theme either.
@@BrassPlayr - You're probably right about them not having the budget. But it begs the question: Why not? Kenobi basically should have had a massive film scale budget behind it.
I feel like Disney simultaneously hates the old characters, yet rely on them to make money and media. They gave Obi Wan the Luke treatment and made him almost useless. An example would be him frequently using a blaster. I get that he can't use his lightsaber, but he hates blasters. Rey can fight Kylo with no training or knowledge after picking up a lightsaber for the first time, yet when Obi Wan faces Vader he is practically useless and pathetic. I get it's been 10 years, but did he really forget how to use the weapon he was trained in for most of his life prior to Order 66?
They have Obi-Wan asking Owen if Luke's shown any signs of force abilities. How exactly was Obi-Wan planning on training Luke if he couldn't still use the force himself? Who writes this shit?
@@mikeymunson9504 currently being able to use the force has nothing to do with possessing the abilities to teach it to someone else. just finished the show, and frankly it was a story that had no consequences, no real threats, and ended flat. Done with Disney Star Wars at this point...
The scene where Reva goofily parkours across the city while every bounty hunter and obi wan can't outrun a ten year old was probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Like wtf
9:12 - I totally agree with this. I honestly feels like it's more about Leia than it is about Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan honestly just seems like Leia's side-kick who has to defend her all the time.
and they'll have to amend the hologram message in a new hope "Years ago when you saved me in a zany adventure with my cute robot sidekick but then again I saved you from those Stormtroopers on that farming planet... wait why do I need your help again?"
This could have been a quiet, dramatic series with two great actors playing deep characters. Instead it.... isn't It's pretty sad that the final hockey fight in Goon felt more epic than Obi Wan v Vader 2
The nostalgia effect has worn off very quickly and now the show's blatant issues are too front and center to ignore. Ep.4 was an absolute joke. Some of the worst star wars content I've ever seen. The entire episode should've focused on Kenobi's mental and physical weakness after being ragdolled by his former apprentice turned cybernetic monster who he presumed dead. He should've been mentally scarred and spent the episode coming to terms with this new reality and re-connecting to the force to help guide the way. What we got instead was a 'Cal Kestis infiltrates the fortress' copy with worse dialogue, pathetic writing, awful directing, and some absolute clown show moments like the trench coat scene. What a complete disappointment this series has been so far. And that's not even mentioning how they've done Hayden so dirty by giving Vader ~10 minutes of screentime through 4 episodes. CGI during the escape scene was also terrible and lazy.
@@ludwigvansolo1999 Say what you will about the meh storyline and overall end point (destruction of the Holocron, negating the point of that adventure), the last act was very intense and put you through the works with the gameplay elements. Smaller but noticeable nitpicks : When Vader is being suited up, you see the sequence where his arms are being attached. 2 seconds later, his arms are not attached yet. Dunno how tf can anyone fuck this up. Second - Vader literally extinguished the fire effortlessly with the Force. Then when that same fire is reignited again barely a minute later, he couldn’t (or wouldn’t?) do shit. Umm what?
Just fire Deborah Chow and whoever wrote the script, the directing, dialogue, set, editing, characters are underwhelming and cheap💀how could they have Ewan and Hayden back and still be able to waste such a series with high potentials, this is crime
A big part of the problem with disney's saber duels is they're using actual lightsaber toys for the props on set, complete with light-up effects and everything. Actors have to be a lot more careful and gentle with how they move/ interact with them or they risk breaking them. This is opposed to the prequels where fights were done with metal rods with effects added in post, which allowed for more physicality.
>>hey're using actual lightsaber toys and your evidence for this is what exactly? >>gentle with how they move/ interact with them or they risk breaking them. As opposed to Obi-Wan not having used a lightsaber for 10+ years and being rusty (as with all his skills)

Getting depressed like Jake Kenobi and Jake Skywalker and giving up, is a Disney thing, not a Lucas-Jedi, thing. But you're making excuses for poor lightsaber direction using poor writing as the excuse... lol ok.
I will say this, from the beginning, I was worried that this show was going to be only 6 episodes. I knew this was very worrying before it even came out. Disney markets this show as a “6 hour movie” of Kenobi. This could not be further from the truth. This is a tv show, not a movie, therefore the story progression is at a much slower pace! I’m sorry, my impression was Leia would be what got Kenobi out of hiding and Kenobi would return her by the beginning of Episode 3. The fact is, this show almost could have been named “Leia”, because it revolves almost entirely about her rescue, with Obi Wan just being there in the background. I like the characters, but they should not hijack a show called OBI WAN KENOBI. This show isn’t supposed to be about them at all. They’re wasting time we have of actual Obi Wan action scenes that fans wanted. That’s how I respectfully criticize what Disney did with this show.
Totally agree. I had the same feeling before the show even came out, I saw in a interview Mcgregor was talking about how he wanted to do a second season. Which made me think that he knows that this first season must not be up to par, and he wants to a second chance to make it better.
@@jbuff8323 Yeah, it sounds like it. When I finished the second episode, I figured in Episode 3 Kenobi was returning Leia to Bail and that we would have just Kenobi, Vader, and Inquisitors from there on out. Man, was I wrong. Why is this series a rescue mission for Leia and Obi Wan a secondary character?? It’s his show! And I mean no disrespect to the new cast, but the writing of the show was not done right. I’m hoping these last two episodes give a decent closure.
God forbid that a show develops its other characters... “It CoULd JuST AsWElL Be naMEd LEiA”. Oh really, is Leia the that character everyone is targeting? Is she the one with the main character arc? Is her actions what primarily moves story forward? No.
@@thomasjeppesen3055 there's a difference in developing other characters, and completely sidelining your main character that everyone came to the show to see, for smaller role characters at that time. There's no shot 4 episodes in Leia and Reva should have more screen time than obi. Not to mention why bring Hayden back as Vader? This show is just bad man. It's not character development when they actually are taking over the show. Reva and Leia are primarily the show.
Disney star wars feels entirely like a fan film. I loved star wars as a teen, if you had told me it would be utter soulless trash in my adult years, I never would have believed it.
The thought that keeps coming to my mind about the Kenobi series and even the Book of Boba Fett, is that is feels like a decent low budget fan film RU-vid video.
I've been wondering how Obi Won was supposed to "protect" Luke when he himself is so weak? How is Obi Won supposed to contact Qui Gon if he's not even using the force?
This is like ten years before that happens. He will likely train to get back to his strength in rebels and the OT. Mayne he'll go see Yoda and he'll instruct him for a bit or something.
Exactly! How is Obi-wan supposed to protect Luke with his light saber buried in desert? Obi-wan should have been working out his body, practicing his saber skills, armed with other blaster weapons, a high speed space ship and other preps. Obi-wan should have copied the Yoda perception…appear weak but really be a badass! Bale Organa should have supplied Obi-wan with money, supplies and transportation. The show doesn’t understand the very nature of Obi-wan’s purpose.
he's getting the Luke treatment from Disney and it's embarrassing. You mean to tell me he hasn't contacted Qui Gon in ten years after he was instructed by Yoda to do just that?
I'm so glad there's a video on this! The whole time I was watching it, it just felt so incredibly cheap! The way the scenes played out and handled traversal only made this more obvious as well that they were limited.
I remember watching the first season of GOT, which didn’t have the highest budget, and never once felt ripped out of the show because something looked cheap. This as well as the other shows don’t last 2 minutes….
The more the series progress, the more it feels like a kids show from nickilodean. Only nickilodean kids shows have that cheap feeling and countless loopholes. Just add in a laugh track and it's perfect.
Maybe let the show finish, I mean the show itself was made to fill a plot hole so it’s of course going to make plot holes during it until it is finished
I'm a Star Wars guy since I was 5 years old, I was SO excited for this show. Bouncing between this and Stranger Things Season 4 has been pretty depressing because it's so awesome to see a cohesive story with amazing characters, it just bums me out that it hasn't been Kenobi.

hayden really got redemption by an entire fanbase after almost 20 years of full disdain. its so heartwarming to see people light up and say "YOOOO I CANT BELIEVE ITS REALLY HIM" and most importantly the pain he (and most other actors) went through after the 2 films he was in
Feels like the writers and filmmakers just graduated film school and were given the chance to make a story with two of the most iconic characters in star wars
I've said this since the prequels: The back stories lived better in our imaginations. When you try to add details, and cycle old characters into past/future events, you end up with a ton of continuity issues or things that don't make sense and feel forced. As a kid growing up with these (pre internet), we knew some of the back stories, and it's never wrong in your imagination. I don't hate anything, but there is disappointment when they do things like he mentions. Sometimes if feels like the people making these newer shows are not even fans, which is odd in itself.
Think back to when you were a kid and you imagined the Clone Wars in your head. Or Anakin Skywalker being a skilled Jedi Knight. Or trying to picture how Obi-Wan and Anakin looked in the ‘civilised’ times… your imagination always got it spot on
@@keelobrown4991 Revenge Of The Sith is great but the other 2 are still meh/not good, imo. Revenge Of The Sith was pretty awesome watched as a film on its own that you could skip TPM and AOTC and not miss anything, really
As Mark Hamil said about the Sequel Trilogy: there’s a difference between making a good film and making money. Disney knows Star Wars for the cash cow that it is. The only person who really cares about George’s vision is Dave Filoni. Deborah Chow, etc. talk about “George’s Vision”, but they definitely don’t get it.
The 'Lucas Vision' is a complicated thing though. His original ending for ROTJ was much darker, with Luke essentially becoming Vader, eventually opting away from the idea because Star Wars was aimed primarily at kids and wanted a lighter ending. Obviously that didn't happen but shows that even back then things were close to being much darker and different, and that Lucas' vision was always changing for better and worse.
Deborah Chow maybe the director of all the episodes but i wonder if she wrote the scripts. The only reason her Mandalorian episodes were good is because Favreau and Filoni wrote the scripts
Not to take credit from Filoni, but it was actually Jon Favreau who made people interested in Star Wars again after the abomination that is the sequels.
Even though each episode has had it's moments, it's impossible to ignore the shows flaws. You hit most points on the head. It feels and looks cheap, the direction leaves alot to be desired and the writing is straight up BAD. the Vader-Kenobi showdown should have been something special. Yet it lacked any emotional weight and just looked like it came straight from a fan film. Out of all the shows that they announced this was the one I was looking forward to the most and has been a huge disappointment so far. Btw, great video mate, earnt a sub.
I have to admit, this is not the best stuff. For a show so long in the making, incredibly popular characters, and unlimited resources. This feels a little AV club.
The entire Disney Star Wars minus Filoni/Favreau’s work feels incredibly cheap. It’s a lack of understanding, a lack of love and care, a lack of inspiration, incompetence and complete complacency as long as they make some kind of profit.
I can definitely feel a difference between Mando and The Bad Batch vs Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi in terms of the care put into them. Maybe Disney thinks that shows about legacy characters can succeed based on name recognition alone.
I say it's that they don't care about the legacy characters. They want to crush what memories the fans have of those characters so they can get to focusing on new content. To them, legacy characters have too much baggage.
Quit whining like little bitches!!!!! If you can make a better Star Wars film/show than you should have bought the franchise from George. Sit down and shut you ass up!!!!!
Two of those shows have Dave Filoni, and the other two do not. I have my issues with Dave but you can't deny that he was taught by George Lucas and really seems to care about the characters.
It's when they did the whole "3 raccoons in a. trench coat" scene that I realized they are making a kids show. This is not a show meant for adults, which explains some of the other crappy choices they've made.
Star Wars was always a kid show.. It's just the fans have become adults with childhood memories of the OT. If you analyse the script.. The OT and NT was a copy-paste, the writers did their job (even if covered in woke stuff). Episode 5 was amazing. My issue with Obiwan is the same with Book of Boba Fett...so when does the story of the main character get shown? These click-bait titles are getting annoying.
I agree with most of what you're saying. To me Obi-Wan feels "okay", but far from "great" and somehow disconnected to the rest of Star Wars. A bit like watching a cutscene from "Force Unleashed". It's kinda nice, but also somewhat forgettable. I don't really get why they did the same "Lone Warrior teams up with force-sensitive to escape from the empire"-storyline they did with Mando. A quieter, less action-oriented-story about a man whose whole purpose in life (along with all his friends) has been destroyed by his own pupil and who is now ridden by guilt and self-doubt would have been something I would have like a lot more. Maybe there is an external threat to Luke and the Lars-family, like Jabbas gangsters and Obi Wan needs to walk the fine line between protecting the boy and remaining hidden from the empire. And don't have him face off with Vader at all.
That scene where the lady takes down the two storm troopers is hilarious. They didn’t even add a sound effect to make that light tap on the helmet sound more impactful, they just left it as is.
I have check previous works of the "writers" one is more a producer and the other a musician. They never write something noticeable in SF or fantasy. Pathetic.
As SW fans we can't let this mediocrity slide and defend it just because it's Star Wars, we have to demand better and lightsaber action is still pathetic
Yes i'm happy each time i see Rotten Tomatoes note going down. People need to show they are furious. It was 57 % before i go to bar... Just come back 6 ours later and it's 55%! lolz Go on guys we are the Rebel Alliance!
Unfortunately, I have seen countless comment sections filled with nufans trying to rationalize the plot holes. I think most of the original fans hate this stuff but I fear that the younger generation doesn't have the same appreciation for it.
@@rdubayoo Younger generations are growing up with all the worst part of the franchises, they never watched the masterpieces from the 90s or early 2000.
Finally an honest review! My wife and I have literally been saying the same exact things. I guess Stormtrooper armor isn’t cut by lightsabers anymore. I hope they give the ball back to John Favreau and Dave Filoni
The whole of Mandalorian was really cool, but both Bobba and Obi Wan feel completely off, and I'm not even really sure why, although Remnicore has hit the nail on a lot of issues.
@@emuman09 that too but a good director knows how to get around that, not that i'm an expert or anything, but i went to film school and most of the great directors we studied simply knew what worked in a script and how to take advantage of it, that's what makes the difference between an ok director and the great ones
@@emuman09 but to be fair obviously there must be a bunch of factors that get on the way of the director too, Disney being Disney it must be pretty exciting and frustrating to work with at the same time
Ive been watching your videos for a while as they pop up on my for you page. And i have to say: i was shocked when u celebrated 1k subscribers... My man you deserve so much more with this quality content! Ill give u like a month until you really blow up. Your voice is also pretty good (not annoying, clear and sympathetic) I really wish you the best as this content would deserve it :)
The vader fire scene could literally be explained by vader calling off his troops and saying something evil like “no, let them run, Their fear will make them weak” like establish vader isn’t trying to be efficient, he’s enjoying this, he wants the game to continue, to savor obi wans pain, he wants obi wan afraid so when the game of cat and mouse ends his victory will be far sweeter Ans then establish the tracker on leia as vaders idea
It was annoying having to justify that scene to people citing the comics and his tactics in a new hope when it's their job to make their story believable. Feels like th sequels almost
I let myself believe this as well until the next episode shows Vader absolutely furious that Obi-Wan got away again, which just means that he really wouldn't have just let Kenobi go if he could help it.
what makes the scene EVEN worse is vader's comment: "bring him [Obi-Wan] to me", literally immedietaly after vader force PUSHED obi-wan AWAY from himself. like what? instead of pushing him away, just use force PULL?!
The angry Vader scene is impressive. I never thought it possible to make the simple act of walking express so much anger. Even if the one person ho does the walking is Vader.
I’m so happy that the tunnel thing was brought up. The entire time that that was going on I was like “welp ig that lady is dead” but then reva ends up on the other side and tala makes it out and saves obi wan ?
Well if Reva shows up miraculously at the other end she obviously didn't go through the tunnel, so it makes sense the lady got out alive. Still doesn't make sense how Reva knew where it would lead and how she beat Leia to the other end though...
A fair analysis, i agree. That second of Reva running had me laughing out loud. Looks like something from out of a comicbook. Also you forgot that interrogation. That was some aweful acting. I switched on episode 4 after watching Stranger Things s07e01 and the difference in writing and acting is just miles apart. Also the speech from the obi wan trailer was like a minor thing in the actual episode, so disapointing.
Glad someone else mentioned Stranger Things since they dropped on the same day; I was so ready for Kenobi to be AAA and Stranger Things 4 to be mid, but it turned out to be the exact opposite
Disney did exactly what I expected them to do when they announced all those star wars shows at once! They are just shot gunning crap to see if anything sticks!
1977 - Ben to Luke: "I haven't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since before you were born." 2022 - Luke is nine years old and Ben is being called Obi-Wan by every character. In a show called 'Obi-Wan.'
This actually feels like a continuation of the Disney sequel trilogy. Honestly I don't know why they just can't have the same director for all of their shows instead of switching them out cuz it makes some shows terrible in some shows great.
Switching directors is probably a minor problem of why all of these shows and movies suck. Some SW shows suck less hard and it takes some people a bit longer to realize how much they still suck. I think everything that Disney does with SW sucks because oligarchial capitalism does not work very well in a creative context. They just do what any oligarchial company would do to make stock holders happy and compete with the few other oligarchial companies. They don't need these shows to be any good. They clickbait parents to subscrive to their streaming service with nostalgia and want them to forget about it because their 6 year old kids can still enjoy trash writing.
some shows great? I beg to differ. During every post prequel production I've found myself regularly turning my head in consideration to discontinue watching. ALL OF THEM. Even Mandalorian (arguably the best of post prequel productions so far) had numerous moments of cringe-writing/production throughout its episodes. The originals came out of one mind predominantly...LUCAS. These new productions are all split-minded with woke agendas intermixed. All adding up to a bunch of noises with about 1% of actual star wars cred story development.
@@Dios_nysos I Agree with everything except "woke agenda" . The only agenda Disney has is money - and that is rather anti-woke! There is no woke agenda! I'd rather call that a conspiracy theory. "Woke sells" and therefore we put woke into our movies to make more money is something totally different than having an actual woke agenda! (unless you fall for a politicized definition of woke that categories it as aimless activism based on a worldview that is as complex as that of a typical teenager or a very immature person) Last Jedi even tries to be anti-capitalist in a blatant manner and therefore is a perfect example of capitalism trying to turn its own critics into a consumable good. If you think Disney actually has a woke agenda you have fallen for their biggest scam! Their morals are where their money will be. I mean look at "wokeness" in these movies and shows - its depictions are ridiculous - like cuanto bight. I think George Lucas actually was and is pretty woke in a sense. Especially compared to Disney. What could be woker than being a great storyteller that explains the world in wholsome, complex and exciting analogies?
Completely agree with this video. Disney makes billions of dollars and they produce shows and even movies that feel like fans made it and posted it to RU-vid.
