The way Ewan Mcgregor delivered those lines with tears in his eyes about being sorry for what he did to Anakin, his friend, his brother, someone he loved and cared for really broke me about as much as it did Jay.
Yeah it’s absolutely the delivery. The tears in his eyes, the way his voice breaks when he says the word “sorry”. He just sells the heartbreak so well. But also, Hayden does a fantastic job of selling the sadness and horror of Anakin/Vader. The way he despondently says “I am what remains” is so freaking heartbreaking. To know that the former Jedi, the former cute kid on Tatooine is almost zombie like like this is so heartbreaking and horrifying. That whole scene is incredibly emotional.
The beautiful thing about both performances in this series, particularly Ewan’s, is that they disappear so completely into character that you don’t think of them as Ewan and Hayden and you feel all of their character’s emotions coming through. It was an amazing series for me.
@@Vyrexuviel Yea the actors took the blame for the writing, really. It's a good thing we've got Dave "patch up the movies" Filoni out here doing God's work. He's like the ultimate Lucas hype man/wingman.
@@mr.stuffdoer8483 Yup! Keep in mind that Hayden was just starting to act back then too. He didn’t have the experience he does now. Most of the younger actors and not so young (except the very seasoned ones like Alex Guinness), were very wooden and their lines sometimes were delivered a bit awkwardly.
I think this episode also answers the question of why Luke's aunt and uncle were straight up killed as brutally as they were in A New Hope: they came out blasting against the stormtroopers, and probably didn't even wait to hear any questions about droids and Death Star plans.

Ewan delivering the "I'm sorry" lines was an emotional gut-punch that a lot of us felt deep down in our soul. I think more than a few of us can relate to seeing someone we care for fall from grace and give into their own personal "Dark Side."
That was what I was hoping for, they did something similar to how Filoni pulled it off with Ahsoka in Rebels (which takes 5 years after this). Vader goes through a lot of helmets, or I should say, a lot of lightsabers go through Vader's helmet. ^^
It was not until this Episode that I finally realized why we needed to see that this confrontation happened: The battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mustafar was emotional and passionate, with Obi-Wan's last words to Anakin being genuinely sad over the loss of his friend and guilty for his failure to prevent his downfall, while Anakin screamed back at Obi-Wan as he burned. And then their battle on the Death Star just has them casually taunting each other with no real sense of the emotional payoff we would expect from the two of them coming face to face again after that battle. Not only did this series give us that emotional payoff that A New Hope is missing, it explained why Obi-Wan was nonchalant when facing Vader again on the Death Star and why Vader spent most of the fight bragging about how much stronger he was without acting vengeful or unfocused, as both of them were forced to accept that they no longer have any real connection to each other: Obi-Wan sees Vader as separate from Anakin and truly unable to be redeemed, and Vader accepts that if Anakin is truly dead he should not care about defeating Obi-Wan for any reason beyond besting the one enemy he could never defeat. I do think this show had some rough patches and could definitely have been streamlined in some areas, but I think the stuff that was vital definitely needed the breathing room the show provided for its pacing, and I doubt Obi-Wan's arc from depressed hermit back to Jedi Master would have felt as impactful if it had all happened within the span of a two-hour movie.
Late ass reply here but I think by ANH Vader isn’t rage fuelled at all anymore. Fighting Kenobi was luck and he didn’t go out of his way this time, he waited for Kenobi to come to him. The flame or rage is just a dull ember and all that can be done is dull taunting and half assed moves. It’s not personal anymore, it’s just a loose end to tie up and move on. He doesn’t feel triumph when he kills Kenobi, because at this point they were strangers.
My take on the show was 50% phenomenal and 50% horrible. The entire arc of Reva and the inquisitors was a complete throwaway. To have this d-lineup villain with another hack redemption arc be anywhere near Luke Skywalker is downright offensive. Same goes for the rest of those useless Inquisitor villains who do nothing but dilute the intrigue of the main villains. Didn’t need to see Flea killed be a helicopter saber believe it or not. They should have just cut the story in half and focused on Obi-Wan/Anakin.
@@AL-fl4jk I groaned so loud at this... realizing this entire poorly written show was leading up to this unnecessary retcon to justify the line in A New Hope.... ugh.
@@garretthenderson5738 Except it wasn't? Vader's been saying he killed Anakin Skywalker for a long time in the comics and shows, it's a part of his character than he considers Anakin a different person to who he is now and that he killed the part of him that was Anakin
There’s such a negative vibe from the Star Wars community sometimes that it’s great too see some of us just enjoying the continuation of this beautiful story ❤
Well there were some realy pointless and realy poorly loooking moments, like when Kenobi shoots that laser fance they could just walk around, i was expecting them to use that transport they were moving on but they just walked :D Was Obi-Wan afraid that Leia gona trip while they move over the fance and fall on it or what ? that whole scene was realy confusing, and when he was hideing Leia under his coat and no one noticed, they could just add scene where they finde some cargo on the way, and hide her in that or something. And Grand inquisitor did not die from the stab or how third sister did not die from the stab as well. But over all i did like the show despite some flaws, they could give screen writhers more time to polish the script. They nailed the ending for sure, Kenobi saying "hello there" and Liam Neeson shwoing up as force ghost is what i realy wanted to see and i got it.
@@BoodyDarknes I mean, those are some incredibly nit-picky complaints, that do nothing to actually detract from the story. The Leia under the coat thing is probably the most egregious, especially when they could have put her in a cargo box or something. But those kind of shortcuts are extremely common in tv series and movies. At least with the GI and Third sister being stabbed, they were consistent in the level of damage. Most people would survive a single stabwound if it didn't impact a vital organ... plus there was a Bacta tank right there which they had showed us earlier. I don't know what some people were expecting to get from this show, but it seems that because whatever preconceived notions they built up in their head didn't come true, they were determined to hate on it.
Ewan McGregor just acted his ass off this episode. And that lightsaber work was off the chain! He and Hayden just killed it. What an incredibly satisfying episode of television.
I feel like when Anakin told him he's wasn't his failure, he did this to himself, it was his way of letting Obi-Wan forgive himself. That maybe a small part of him still cared about his brother, Obi-Wan
maybe very deep down, but i would rather think that Annakin wants to take the credit for making himself "Better", for killing anakin and becoming stronger, how DARE Obi Wan pity him for this or take credit
No, I really think that nearly everybody gets it all wrong... The point Anakin/Vader was trying to make there was that it was his choice what he became in the end, and it was a mistake of course..He decided to kill Anakin. And yes, even if the Jedi or Obi Wan kinda failed him, and Sidious manipulated him, it was still he himself who made the ultimate choice in the end. That's the real tragedy behind it. It was not about "forgiving" Obi Wan, or "taking the credit", he just made it clear that he chosed the dark side, he wanted to become Vader. Whether he has to pay the consequences for it or not, it's too late to return at this point for him. And he's aware of that, which is why he know has to go the full way. That all of course changes when Luke comes in, and brings him back to the light side as Anakin Skywalker. The whole story of Star Wars is about redemption. Anakin was a victim of his sorroundings (he was a slave as a child, treated horribly by the Jedis and also manipulated by Sidious), and therefore became a Tool of evil himself. And therefore did the worst things possible, until he meets son Luke, who's not only able to forgive him, but bring his real side back to life. He was the only one who believed in him, so Vader finally realized his mistakes, became Anakin again, saved Luk and the galaxy by killing Sidious, brought ballance to the force (just as the prophecy originally intented), regreted everything he did so that Obi Wan saved his soul as well after he died, so that he truly became redeemed, by becomming a force Ghost too.
@@gregorsamsa2271 I'm closer to you, but in my opinion people need to remember that in his own mind he's the hero. Villains are always the heroes of their own story. I think part of his point is basically 'don't pity me.' He doesn't want to be perceived as a victim and a tragedy. He presumably sees himself as having made an active choice to become Vader, and the RIGHT choice.
"You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker.............I did!" - The best Vader line and it was delivered in such a stone cold evil way..... amazing. Your reactions are pure gold I love you both. :D
It also explains why when Luke asks how his father died, Ben replies "a young Jedi named Darth Vader who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights. He betrayed and murdered your father." Vader was the one who put that mentality in Kenobi's head.
It puts this cold lump in your stomach. The realization of just how detached he is from who he used to be, and digesting that the person you thought you knew really has become unforgivably evil.
@@matthollands7771 it's cheap. Even if Obi-Wan accepted that statement, what he told Luke was an outright lie and only served to complicate things. Obi-Wan has lied and told half truths as long as we have known him. This is no different.
Vader finally acknowledging that his fall to the Darks Side was 100% on him and his dumbass self instead of everybody else's fault as he kept insisting during Episode II and III and setting Obi-Wan free of his guilt for failing him was something I was not expecting, but it's now firmly one of my favorite Star Wars moments ever, along with Obi-Wan telling Leia the qualities she inherited from her biological parents.
I feel like he was holding out his hand one more time hoping Obi Wan would save him but Obi Wan knew that there was no saving who Anakin became and at that point he truly is Vader and gives up on everything he was holding on to.
Totally disagree. He owns the death of Anakin. But Obi-Wan and the jedi council played a huge part in creating Vader. Their lies and betrayals can't be over looked and Vader hasn't forgotten.
@@crankfastle8138 Vader didn’t forget but that last scream seemed like he was in pain. Although the council was hypocritical, Anakin realized too late that he let himself be seduced by nothing more than nightmares that would not have come true had he sought council from anyone other than Palpatine. I believe that Obi Wan would have saved him if Anakin showed even a semblance of his old self, but he was too far gone/stubborn/prideful and even though his last scream sounded pained more than it did angry, Obi Wan knew that neither of them could atone for what they played a part in.
@@elzitro5386 I don't believe Anakin wanted Obi-Wans help. No way he forgot Obi-Wans lies. His constant undermining. The betrayal of faking his death and forcing Anakin to mourn him. But the truth is neither Yoda or Obi-Wan made any effort to reach him.
I just don't understand this take (though to each their own). This show was so frustratingly plotted, with characters making non-sensical decisions and plot points that make zero sense. A star destroyer focusing all its fire on a transport ship and the transport ship just chugs along? And why didn't vader go after Kenobi alone (or just blast him out of the sky) and let the destroyer continue after the rebels. And Kenobi spared Vader, essentially allowing his galactic genocide. What the hell?
This episode is solid proof that it was written, directed and acted PERFECTLY....The dialogue between Obi Wan and Vader you can see Obi Wans heart being constantly torn apart....even more importantly as Hayden gives his cheeky sarcastic grin when he says - "I DID" That was perfect!!!
Jay. I didn't realize we were emotionally aligned. I cried at all the same spots. And.... with Qui Gon finally showing and saying... come on, we have lots to do... gives me hope for a season 2.
Jesse Pinkman they could do a lot with Vader. They have not showed when he went to the temple and fighting the jedis. Plus him hunting down jedis would be incredible. I mean we talking about order 66.
@Jesse Pinkman id be okay if vader separated himself from the kenobi series, and got his own series that takes place after his fight with kenobi showing his training with palps, or maybe going on the purge, there are still jedi out in the galaxy that he needs to kill, and the kenobi series would be him and quigon completing yodas training, and maybe and adventure here and there

@@scarlet3470 What was left of that Stormtrooper squad just said "Oh Fuck this shit!" and started throwing incendiary grenades into the compound over and over.
@@Digital_Flayer believe it or not sometimes people feel differently than you I absolutely hated it the cheesy way they tried to retcon obiwan lying in the original movie, the way his ptsd just disappeared and a dude that struggled against storm troopers is all of sudden stronger than Vader, his strength came from attachment and emotion which is against the Jedi way, a woman that snagged a ship out of the air couldn’t catch a 10 yo on foot she also got beat up and stabbed in the vagina by moisture farmers. There’s already no stakes because we know all those character have to live and can’t even be seriously injured but there so many just plain dumb moments like more so than typical Star Wars suspension of belief. So yeah I hated it not to be different but because it was bad in my eyes more disappointing than the book of fett before it became mando season 2.5
Man that final confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan was a rollercoaster of emotions. Hearing Hayden and James Earl Jones' voices overlayed on each other with the torn mask was terrifying but Obi-Wan apologizing to Anakin for everything hits you right in the heart cuz you can see and feel his guilt. And then Vader saying he didn't fail him and that he himself killed Anakin was exactly what he needed to get that weight off himself. Absolute masterpiece Leia putting Lola in her holster was so freaking adorable!! I thoroughly enjoyed this finale, all the little payoffs were fantastic: seeing Palpatine again, finally hearing the absolute banger that is the Imperial March, the "hello there" after they teased us in episode 2 or 3, and Qui-Gon ghost. Amazing
Tragic last true connecting moment between Obi and Annakin. Not only does Obi ask for forgiveness but also Annakin can at least still tell him in his old voice it's not his fault as blue and red light are still both reflected on his face, then the blue light fades off and only the red remains (like Ben/Kylo in TFA w/ Han) when Vader threatens him and Obi knows and acknowledges Anakin is gone. So moving.
I know we say all the time during Marvel casting "wow, they really nailed that character". Whoever cast Leia for this series deserves an honorary Oscar. She was absolutely perfect and arguably the best part of this entire series. Take a bow, miss. You've done our princess proud.

The way they threw qui gon in at the end makes me think there will be more somewhere along the line. But if not I’m happy how it ended. And in my eyes, Obi Wan helping reva find some sort of peace at the end is why qui gon showed up when he did.
Yeah , but the whole reva storyline was stupid ... and forced .. would rather have seen more of the grand inquisitor and the other inquisitors. But they had to put a woman central to the storyline and it made me groan everytime she was on screen.
12:42 man I know there's a bunch of comments talking about this already but I can't even begin to tell you how validating Jay's reaction is here. I know I'm not the only fan to cry at this scene but this is the only reaction that encapsulates my reaction to this moment. Easily one of the best Star Wars moments for me
Amazing climax! The duel, the dialogue between the master and the apprentice! Holy crap! As for Reva, I loved what they did with her character but I believe she needed a bit more "polished" script. Great arc but indeed the structure was.... weird. She figured out that Luke was Anakin's kid and she wanted to kill him to avenge her friends. Moses Ingram did such a great job, especially in the last two episodes. I believe that Reva should join Ezra somewhere out there. Ezra is great for LucasFilm to build a new cinematic saga and Reva could easily have a place next to him.
It's moments like this episode that really make me convinced that Hayden was the perfect choice to play Anakin. He may not have always sold the corny dialogue Lucas gave him, but my God, he does "evil Anakin" with that malicious glare the same way James Earl Jones does Vader with his voice. I don't know how he manages that glare, but it just sends shivers down my spine now like it did in Episode III.
@@30noir -- I disagree. This show made it clear that Vader was so obsessed with chasing down Kenobi that even the emperor felt the need to warn him that his lack of self-control was getting out of hand. Vader used this experience to discipline himself, and to let go, which is why the fight in A New Hope seems tame and detached in comparison.
I got a lot more respect for Owen and Beru! I always felt like Luke got a raw deal, stuck on a backwater dump like Tatooine while Leia grew up in luxury, but this showed they both had parents that loved them very, very much!
I never doubted their love for Luke, just their parenting style. I mean they lied to Luke about his parents, tried to force a farmers life on him when he wanted to be a pilot, essentially tried to deny him his dream and his heritage.
@@cfinley81 true and I get that, but I’m more worried about what the fate of the galaxy would’ve been if Luke DIDN’T become a Jedi. I mean imagine how many planets would’ve been reduced to rubble if Luke didn’t leave to destroy the Death Star
the show gave probably the most emotional story we've gotten in any stand alone star wars project. we see that obi wan is probably the very best of the jedi, he's everything we want them to be. this also clears up so many pieces in the ot and gives us everything we could have been hoping for.
@@jjv124 I don’t think anything will top the ending of Mandalorian s2 - that emotional ending along with Luke’s return literally made the whole fan base cry their eyes out! It was what saved the franchise.
I was fortunate enough to be born in the mid 70s. So I've experienced the Star wars universe in it's infantcy. The Vader vs Obi-wan duel brought me to tears. Not because of the fight which albeit was top notch, but because I knew all the nuances between the two characters. the turmoil of Obi-wan, having to fight boy he practically raised, and finally come to terms with the fact that the darkside has completely taken him, that there was no saving him. The unbridled rage Anakin had for Obi-wan. For us long time Star Wars fans, this was a gut wrenching moment.
That fight was so intense and emotional. Obi-Wan with the rock attack was insane. And the dialogue between Ewan and Hayden was heartbreaking. Soooo good.
Jay, I also cried when Anakin spoke. Now watching you have the same reaction brought my tears again. Its such a devastating scene and Hayden and Ewan performed masterfully. Thank you for sharing this reaction with us.
I so appreciate the emotion in this reaction. This is Star Wars at its best. Ewan and Hayden gave the performances of a lifetime, and these scenes will stay with me forever.
have no sympathy for any haters after Ep 5 and now with Ep 6 I don't want to hear what any haters still left might have to say - this series has been an amazing & glorious journey
It's been a great journey, especially episodes 5 + 6, however, there were some silly moments on occasion (particularly in the earlier episodes). Nothing that breaks the experience overall though. I understand what you mean about the people who complain like it's an addiction. Sad.
These reactions plus the amount of friendship and care we see between the two of you while having so much fun at the same time is why you guys are my favorite.

Thank you, truly, for inviting us in and sharing yourselves with the world. I’m a big fan of you both. What beautiful people you both are.
I like the idea that now in Cannon when Obiwan and Vader meet in a new Hope Vader is trying to play it super cool and relaxed to show off his new Mastery of self control.
When Hayden says: "Anakin is gone..I am what remains.." He just sounds so sad and broken..not to mention Obiwan's face 🥺💔 it just breaks your heart all over again, I cried too😭😭
It’s why the phrase “story arc” exists 🤷🏼♂️ The Star Wars fans who were deciding they hated this series from a few story leaks before the first episode even aired were ridiculous, and it wasn’t much better those people who decided the whole thing was a bust several episodes in. I’ll defend anyone’s right to dislike something with a passion after they’ve actually seen the whole thing, but forming opinions before you’ve even seen something? Truly ridiculous.
The visual representation of awakin in the hue of the blue lightsaber then the transition to the red was so powerful and amazing. This is the finale we needed and got!
This episode made me cheer and cry for 51 minutes straight. Damn good. I kept getting very worried near the end because it kept seeming like they were about to end it, I was worried QUI-GON wouldn't show.
This series was a crescendo that ended with one superb emotional episode that served to finish all of those characters arcs: Reva's revenge and redemption, Vader leaving his obssession aside, Leia figuring out she wants to do more to help people and Obi Wan returning to the path of the Jedi. ♥♥♥
@@dashkataey1740 he said it because Obi-Wan has always lied or told half truths. In that moment it was untrue and only served to complicate things. If he just told the truth to Anakin or Luke.
When Obi-Wan said I'm sorry, my heart literally torn in pieces. It hurts so much to see how he's the only character that has been through this much pain. That's why Obi-Wan Kenobi is my all time favorite Star Wars Character ever. He lost his master, his friend and brother, his lover and literally everything. God, I love him so much. And this episode reminded me of how much I love this character
Ewan really elevated this series. His "I'm sorry" moment was one of the best performed scenes in the history of the franchise. The show itself had some major flaws and pacing issues, but I was satisfied by the end. If the script had been tightened up and restructured, I think the Leia & Reva stuff would have worked better for me. All of that said, Jay & Adam's emotional reactions made me appreciate this episode even more.
@@danteb3871 Yes. With what we now know happened to Reva, it worked out so much better to have taken some time to hear her story. It made her ending scenes so much more meaningful along with Obi Wan's words to her.
@@danteb3871 I respectfully disagree regarding the pacing and script issues with the first 2 episodes, and I am far from impatient. I didn't hate them, but this whole series could have benefitted from some tighter storytelling. Honestly, I'm the type of person who wants as much quality Star Wars content as possible, yet this might have been better as a 2 hour movie or a 4 episode mini-series. I am thrilled that we got to see this period in Obi-Wan's life on screen, and the Leia stuff was a nice surprise even if it took me until episode 3 to really warm up to the actress (again, more of a script thing for me). I predicted Reva's arc as well, and am glad that they went the direction with her that they did.
Reeva is such an interesting character to me. The fact that she (I assume) became an inquisitor and went down the path of the dark side to get revenge on Anakin for killing everyone she knew in Order 66 is great. I think they should have emphasised the fact that she was further corrupt by the dark side, but I have no issue with this series and there's NO point in saying "this would be better" Oh also GOD DAMN the Anakin/Vader and Obi Wan scenes were stuuuuuning, throughout the whole show!
I think it would have been better if Reva somehow knew Luke and Leia were Anakins children and she wanted to kill them for revenge. it's kind of ambiguous though...show was okay.
"Anakin....." "Anakin's gone. I am what remains...I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did." Those lines broke me. A perfect representation of Darth Vader, and my reaction was the same as Jay's. That whole scene was brilliant.
Jay reacted the same way I did to obi wan saying he was sorry. Ewan choking up like that got me so bad. He’s so good. Just wish we got more emotional stuff like that throughout the whole show but what a great episode
I was glad they put the scene with the Emperor in the show (beyond the obvious reason). Having Vader re-pledge his allegiance to his 'Master' made me realize that it helped take the heat off his obsession with killing Obi-Wan and explained why he wasn't actively 'hunting' him with the same degree of obsession in Episode 4 A New Hope. I loved this episode!
Watched 10 reactions. Jay cried more than all of the others except for this red headed lady with her cushion. And I cried with all of them. Obi Wan Talking about the parents to Leia got me good.
The thing about the Emperor at the end is that he *seems* to make sense by strongly hinting that Vader is getting too obsessed with hunting Obi Wan but I think he’s really just manipulating Vader - or continuing to manipulate him, I should say. I don’t think Papaltine wants someone as strong as Obi Wan to live, necessarily, but he doesn’t want Vader to keep pursuing Obi Wan because he doesn’t want him to find out about Luke and Leia. The Emperor probably knew where Luke and Leia were every second. (And, if that thought doesn’t give you chills, then nothing will.) One person already connected Obi Wan to Bail Organa and then to Owen Lars. If Vader managed to catch up to Obi Wan, he might find Luke, at the very least, if not both kids. I think Palpatine’s game was to let the kids grow up out of Vader’s sight because he wanted Luke to replace Vader when he got old enough. If Vader found Obi Wan and discovered Luke in the process, he’d take Luke under his wing and Luke would end up being more loyal to him than to the Emperor. If it hadn’t been for the secret of Luke and Leia, I think Palpatine would have let Vader keep hunting. As Vader rightly said, Obi Wan isn’t just any Jedi. He’s a Jedi Master and he’s also an accomplished military general who people listen to. If he hadn’t had to protect Luke, he could have headed the Rebel Alliance himself.
I kinda got the same feeling. It's probably wishful thinking, but Vader's pause after the apology seemed like an intentional absolution (and also the truth). The comment from Palpy "the feelings for your old master" added to it. But deep inside I kinda know at this point in his life, Vader is deep into hatred and bitterness so is really probably just a better reading of that scene. Regardless, powerful shit they pulled.

That scene when Obi-Wan breaks Vader's helmet and you can hear Hayden's and Earls Jones's voices switching from one another is fucking gold....and that face....holy shit that terrifying face. Absolutely worth it.
Reactor's reactions brought me here - finally someone getting emotional during the fight and Qui Gon- and also realising the references between the blue and red lights during the conversations !! Well done !
I cried too. Just had flashbacks of Anakin being a young innocent kid, pod racing to finding his love, experiencing his Mom dying, and seeing the love of his life die too, to having twins…and everything in between. Man has had a hard life. It be easy for anyone to go down that path, experiencing that level of sh*t. Mannn…that scene was so good
Lol he saw the love of his life die cause he strangled her. Clearly troubled and wasn't given the proper support, but dude killed his pregnant wife...my sympathy has better places to be.
You forget the most important aspect. The council denied him being a Jedi after countless battles, used him to spy and made him train a padawan while being a padawan -yeah I'd say fuck the jedi too
Now we know Owen and Baru were actually badasses, it puts a whole new complexion on their deaths in ANH. Gotta imagine they took a lot of Stormtroopers down with them before the rest of the squad said "Fuck it!" and threw a few incendiary grenades into the compound...
Personally, I would like to have a three-season show that just follows kid Leia through various adventures on Alderaan and her having to think her way through them. All with Jimmy Smitz in the background giving support and advice.
Owen and Beru's action to defend the homestead in this episode put a new spin on their ultimate fate in ANH. Can you bet when the stormtroopers came calling, Beru came out that door blasting?
YESSS I’ve been waiting for this love you guys! I cried at so many moments in this episode, then when Qui-Gon showed up I sobbed audibly which I’ve NEVER done in Star Wars, so props to the show for that.
Watching him change from the Jedi master afraid of his failures and cutting himself off from the force back into the kind wise Jedi master who sacrificed himself for others was a beautiful journey. His moment of realization with Vader and then walking away. Perfect. Also the hilarity of the fact he beat Anakin with the high ground by throwing rocks at him made me laugh..
My head canon is that what's left of Anakin was what was speaking when his face had the blue glow on it, not Vader - He didn't say what he said to be arrogant, he said it to give his old master some measure of peace.
I’m glad more people are proving me right. A lot of people see him smiling at Obi Wan as if he was gloating. I didn’t see that at all. I saw him accepting to Obi Wan that it was his own fault. It was more like “let me/ Anakin go now”
Hearing Hayden's/Anakin's voice while in the suit brought tears to my eyes. Because u remember that HE is in there. It's not some rando in a mask, it's Anakin. I just watched ROTS again yesterday and to watch this episode so soon after was so emotional. Just to remember everything that happened to Anakin and remember the boy (now man) that's in that suit is so devastating and haunting. Sometimes when I watch the original trilogy and then this show, I forget about Anakin and only view the suit as Darth Vader, nothing more, so to see and hear Anakin in there again is just a tragic reminder of him and his story. So sad but so good.
13:00 how the heck they made me think “have mercy” to Vader? His breathing changed and somehow I was like Obi Wan: pitting him. Very well Directed scene. Amazing.

Watching Jay start to cry at the emotional scenes is how we all felt. Like damn, the scene was so well done with the dialogue between Obi wan and Vader. The "Im Sorry" part is when we broke. Like we all thought we could carry our emotional baggage well until we saw Obi Wan begin to tear up. The man he trained sense Anakin was a little boy, standing now before him as the most feared person in the galaxy. It is very emotional.
Near the end of this episode, we got the Imperial March, Leia's Theme, and Binary Sunset(The Force Theme)...I mean, come on. That's perfection right there. And I agree, Reva's arc just wasn't structured that well. We inferred/guessed right from the beginning that she had been one of the younglings in the Temple at the beginning. We did not NEED to hold that back for some sort of "reveal" 5 episodes into a 6 episode series. We learned the big reveal about Vader being Luke's father halfway through the OT, and it did not hurt anything. Even if you wanted to do a 1 to 1 comparison of the Vader reveal 2/3 of the way through the OT, then we could have revealed Reva's backstory in episode 3 or 4 at the LATEST.
We also got the TIE Fighter attack score (the score that was playing in ANH when the Falcon was fleeing the Death Star) when the Star Destroyer was chasing after the refugees which was also great to hear again
I’m so glad your heart is healed, Jay. Mine is still shattered on the floor along with the tissues I went through, but I’m sure I’ll get there. Thank you guys for your reactions to this show! They never fail to make my day.
Best moment, Obi-Wan starts to "believe" and beats Vader with the rocks. Adam wide eyed full hope and excitement. Jay "This Rocks". Then you can see Adam's soul die a little inside. It wasn't Modine bad, but was pretty close. I wish I loved Star Wars as much as you two. Your joy and love of Star Wars is so pure.
Thank you for having a PROPER Star Wars fan reaction to the most emotional scenes of episode. Best reaction out there! Leias parent lineage moment with obi got me too!
My favorite part was that small window where Anakin who is wearing the Vader suit came out to let Obi-Wan know that he is not at fault for how things went with him. That he chose that path. To me it’s almost the same as Anakin saying you do not need to apologize because you did not do this I did. Then the lights turn red from blue and then he has become officially Darth Vader, no longer holding on to the thought of having to prove himself to his former master. That was his story arc into becoming officially Darth Vader. And Obi-Wan say goodbye darth was his way of letting go of Anakin
I fucking adore Jay so much. I wish I could have given him a hug. I also love how as soon as Adam saw he tried to console him, and you could see how much he loves Jay on his face. Love these guy.
Trilla in Fallen Order was kind of redeemed, I thought. That last moment with her was very wholesome before Vader steps in I don't hear people talk about how much Moses Ingram KILLED that scene in the desert. Her crying was so affecting, we don't normally get such explicit demonstrations of emotion. I loved it so much
