Hey! I'm familiar with HOF, of course. It sounds like a stoner did speed and got all bouncy, at least that's the metaphor I'm making. What would you say it sounds like?

I don't think the word bouncy fits what Obituary has going on in that song. Stoner Metal and Doom aren't really 'bouncy' either. There are tons of Obituary songs that have that groove in it. It's a big part of their sound. And no one listens to Obituary for flashy shreddy solos!?!?! James Murphy on Cause of Death is chock full of flashy shredding solos because that's what James Murphy is good at. Kenny Andrews can and does shred, Ralph Santolla could shred, James Murphy was Shred King and Allen West Sure did try to be as shreddy as possible. Obituary has been one of my favorite 'Death metal" bands since '89 because they have their own vibe. They stood out from the other bands because yes, they were brutal but they had and still have a groove. Donald Tardy uses double bass but with taste. The rest of the time he's setting up a groove filled pocket and he stays there. Obituary also had the shredding to keep up with the other bands. Obituary is a total package,man.

Their solos are not flashy, over the top shred fests. They're tasteful. It's not technical death metal. James Murphy is amazing, but he's not sweeping the neck as fast as he can.

Wow! You couldn't be anymore wrong on James Murphy's guitar style. That's what he's known for. That's why he was sought out by so many bands in the early 90's. If you needed a guy to come in and play lightning fast arpeggios on a Death metal or Grind album...you called James Murphy. He'd come in, shred, get paid and leave.

Ok fair. Dude shreds. But I guess what point I was trying to make is I listen to Obituary for the groovy death metal. The solos are an added bonus, but not the selling point for me.

End It Now is one of the best Obituary songs since the Cause of Death record. More up tempo songs than I expected = bonus. Tearing things down to carve out the crunching rhythm tones is classic Obituary. Great vocals on top of it all. Wringing my $10 out of this took about 1 play through.

+BANGER it would be cool to see a sodom rewind, I'm a bit fuzzy on 90's sodom. Oddly enough I know everything from the 80's and 2000's - present😂.

I have every Sodom album and honestly the best 90's Sodom albums were 1990's Better off Dead, and 1999's Code Red. The other albums while good to varying degrees were plagued by constant line up changes and muddy productions. I wasn't a fan of the Andy Brigg years. I felt he was more of a punk/rock guitarist than a thrash metal guitarist. Every album spawned classic songs, even if they weren't classic albums. I think it was 1997's Till Death Do Us Unite that Sodom finally got a stable lineup for many years to come, with guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost still in the band today. He was definitely the best thing to happen to the band since Frank Blackfire.
