Thank You!!!!! I took a truck as a trade in at dealership I work at and am driving it home right now, and everything was already exposed to that wire around the steering wheel and didn't know why, and the guy who traded it in didn't tell me.. anyway it's 10:30 at night and I was stuck at a gas station until about 2 mins ago thanks to this video!!! this vid just saved the day so THANK YOU very much!!
Just found this video......THANK YOU! Just went and banged the top of the wheel and it started! So far has only cost me a fuel filter. I imagine a 1995 Tahoe would be the same steering wheel so I'll check out your other video. Thanks again so much! Cheers!
THANK YOU!!!!!! Worked INSTANTLY on my ‘99 suburban!!!!!! You saved me a $100 diagnostic fee and a whole lot of headache! P.S. you don’t have to take the steering wheel etc off if you’re ok with using wire cutters to cut the lower part of the plastic column housing around the ignition drum on the right side and then prying the whole thing back from the top center of the steering wheel and off, the screw post will break but you can pop main cover right back into place.
I've been helping an older friend with his 95' Silverado for a while now. This is his latest plague. I'm replacing the ignition switch wiring this weekend & I'll keep an eye on this plug too. Fingers crossed, thanks.
if you check out the playlist for this truck on my channel i just did vids on replacing this wire harness and ignition switch as well as several other vids. have a good one
Google doesnt know it but its guys like you that upload helpful videos and make life today so much easier. Guys like pewdiepie are leading the way on youtube but u almost feel dumber having watching his content. Funny yes. Knowledgeable defiently not. Cheers for the video buds. I subbed
Hey, great vid, I watched the tooth pick video and tried it on my 2000 Chevy 3500 truck and so far it has worked great! I also put some dialectic grease on the plug. Anyway, great vid!
"PROBLEM SOLVED" after days of trouble. SPRAYED CRC "Electronic Spray" ($3 at Walmart) into my "aging ignition." (Electronic spray will not hurt the "dusty old" ignition). Unbelievable! "1998" Chevy Cavalier 2.2L engine. Chevy wanted $300 for a reset. Had it towed several times and local mechanics tried everything. Found this $3 CRC spray solution in a forum. "Security light" kept coming on. Stalled in traffic. Had to wait to start again. Looked at all the "bypass solutions" and Amazon gadgets too. When it works for you remember to share and pay-it-forward.
I just tried this on my 03 Suburban it would start and shut off with the orange antitheft flashing, my wire was definitely loose but I stuck in a piece of ziptie and it REALLY WORKED!! THANKS SO MUCH
What you need to do is pull the connector out and then pull each of the 3 wire connectors out of the plastic connector and tighten the tips that slide over the pins by carefully and slightly squishing the tips together. Then replace them in the plastic connector and snap it back in place.
What is that connector called someone stole my truck and pulled those cords out and I can’t get them back in the connector so I’m trying to buy a new one
@@osheafleming6764 it's part of the ignition switch wiring harness. You can buy them new or used. Then you have to do the relearn procedure. Many videos on that. Takes about an hour. Just make sure your battery is charged good.
Mine had this exact same problem (06). If it helps anyone I was able to get it going by just giving it some gas immediately after it starting but then it progressively got worse to where that was not effective anymore. Changed fuse box, repalced ignition switch, etc. Mechanic I completely trust did a lot of research and troubleshooted and just couldn't pinpoint the issue other than he thinks it was related to security system... which means probably a dealership type job. That would be stupid expensive and not worth it, and my mechanic didn't have the capabilities Chevrolet would have to get deeper into the problem. He even told me it started itself up while he was inside the shop. This shit is weird and hard to believe no one has found a definitive fix. I sold it today finally, and I hope who bought it can figure it out. Loved the vehicle, hated the issues that came with it when this happened.
Hey Sam, quick question, I have GMC Sierra and it won't start - so it turns over and acts like it has a flat battery and then the horn blasts. Did you have the issue ? I think I have a passlock problem as well but just trying to see if this is the similar issue....
I don't know if you'll be able to answer this for me but does this work for a 2000 Chevy Silverados to we had one that it's not starting and we thought it was a starter and then it would stay in 4-wheel so someone told him to take the positive cable off and it's been screwed up ever since it won't stay running or start what do you think?
sorry i'm not sure about 2000 model but i do think they have something similar whether or not it's the problem i couldn't say. there could be a start sequence after disconnecting your battery tho but you would have to do research weather or not your truck has one. hope all works out
Im having an issue with my 93 forerunner. Starts most times, wont run on. Had everything checked. Fuel pressure coil ignition etc etc. Key start was intermittant. Would I ever have that as it is key entry? Anyway great video.
I had the same issue. Did the whole ignition wire toothpick fix, but still had the issue. Then i noticed my key fob didnt work anymore. I read somewhere that the antenna signal box that located behind the instrument cluster has to be unplugged then plugged back in. Instead of doing that, i checked the TBC fuse located in the fuse box under the hoof for the box. Found out it was bad. Its located at the bottom far right. Did a continuity check. It was bad. So, i replaced it. Truck fired up with no more issues. Just have to reteach the fob.
Aloha, need some help with a 2006 chevy suburban continuity fuse? no start after engine rinse down, something with the ignition not turning on fuel pump, fuel pump is new! relay works but not from ignition to relay
what was your security light doing when you were having troubles? Mine stays on constant. I've replaced the ignition cylinder housing (with passlock sensor) Ignition lock cylinder, ignition switch (with wiring harness) and a few used Vehicle anti theft module. I've done the re learn procedure as well. It cranks, starts, and dies. This truck is testing me big time! Any advice would greatly be appreciated
mine would crank start then die when the light was on but it would only do it hear and there i would bang on the top of the searing wheel and it would go out and start i started to look into it and this was a common fix and so far haven't had any problems since this does seem to be a common problem though and since its electrical weather this works or not is probable a crap shoot i was having problems with my starter at the same time and between changing it and this fix i xmy fingers haven't had any problem since and i had my starter checked twice and it tested good finely i changed it anyway and haven't had problems hope you figure it out i know how frustrating it can be
it worked for a couple years but has recently started to have the same trouble. i actually just bought the parts to hopeful fix it for good. i will have a vid when i can get to it hopefully soon
@@JunkworksGarage mine just started having issues sometimes it’s on when driving , and the other night it was blinking anx I was stuck at Publix ( blinking no start ) so we sat there ignition on and off and on for about 20-30 min and finally started , then next day wouldn’t start so I jumped in my other car took my kids gone and when I got back , started right up.
@@JohnDoe-dh3xw i am actually working on a vid replacing this harness witch i hope to have up in the next week or too also on replacing the switch as well ether or both of these could be your problem
@@JunkworksGarage the vibrations to a steering wheel can be rather intense sometimes while entering the vehicle and of course while driving down the road. It's a common technique when the key assembly is sticking to tap it to allow our those spring loaded pop up Tabs to go down to allow key to turn. It's the intensity of the vibration transfer on steering wheel assembly that makes that rigging precarious.
I have a kind of dum-dum adhesive sealing putty that I use for all kinds of stuff. It is sold by a company that is online called Parts Express, they sell speakers and electronics. The putty is called speaker sealing caulk, their part # for it is 269-300. This stuff is black and sticky, more adhesive than other dum-dum caulk sold for HVAC use. But it does not stick permanently, does not harden and can be removed. A little dab of this stuff pressed in the gaps all around the sides would hold that plug snug and still be removable. I just put some around the same plug on my truck to avoid future trouble. Another handy use for this stuff that I do all the time is when I have to start a hex head screw or bolt in a tight place that I can't fit my hand into. I put a dab of this putty in the edge of a socket and stick the bolt into it, then it holds the bolt while I fish it in there on the end of an extension. Hundreds of other uses for this stuff, I love it, always keep some on hand.
In your first vid u said that ur truck would not start all it did was click. but n this vid u said it would start then die. I'm confused. I have a 01 gmc Sierra 1500 4X4 extended cab with the 5.3L and what mine does is when u open the door the security light flashes but when I put the key in and turn to start it then the security lights stops flashing and the battery light comes on then off after trying to start. I no my battery is good and so is my starter and fuel pump. so when I try to start it all dash lights r on fuel pump kicks on but it just clicks. the first time I tried the 10min relearn procedure and it worked it started I drove to work today and now my truck is stuck at work. I did the relearn procedure again and nothing. I repeated the procedure two more times and still nothing. hope u have input. IDK if I should try what u did n this vid cuz my truck Dnt start at all it just does the click like how u explained n the other vid. I'm curious to know what u think and curious to y u claimed two different starting issue. did u first have no crank no start then it went to start then die.
yep i had two different issues one was the starter witched checked out good then finley a little while later it checked out bad so i was having sporadic starting . then this one. now two years later i'm having trouble again and it looks to be a starter, or cam position sensor which can also cause sporadic starting issues ime working on a vid right now but it won't come out for a while i also replaced the wire going from the realy to the starter i hate electrical you could have one or more of theas going on. it does sound more like a security wire problem thow so i would start there hope all goes well .
How did you remove the steering wheel? I went to the junk yard. And it the ingition switch. I also wanted to remove the whole key assembly. Oh ok I'll look at your other video.
my truck kept sporadically not starting in the end i think it was the starter relay that was the problem go to my playlist and look for the vids i have on my gmc any one of the fixes on that could maybe be your problem thanks for watching
The tiny little brown and green wire behind the part of the harness...any idea what they do or where they go? I installed a keyless entry/ignition system in my Yukon and these were the only two wires remaining in the column so I went ahead and cut them. Now my radio doesn't work. Everything else works and is hooked up correctly ONLY the radio (aftermarket) doesn't come on. Anti-theft maybe?
it works for me. .after installing a new switch my van start having problems like 3 times a day..for 6 months. have to wait 10 minutes in till the security light stop flashing then my car turns on again..I did what I see on video. .PROBLEM SOLVED. ..THANKS. .
This was working up until today I ran into this issue again. I have to leave the key on till the antitheft light stops flashing and then off for 10 seconds and it runs what other issue could it be 03 Suburban 5.3
I have a1991 Isuzu amigo and I change all related to ignition switch but still it turns on but as soon as I let go of the key stops, if I hold the key it stays on........so where I go from here? I will take any advice, thanks.
If you changed the ignition switch then i'm not sure. it could be something in your starter . unfortunately lately i have bought new parts that were bad, it could be you got a bad switch from the parts store. I hope you are able to figure it out
Best thing ive found to fix these old obs trucks , is to just go get 5 of them , now you have parts and diagnostic tools ....😂 Thank me latter ...2000 3500 bucket trucks ...i might as well buy them all i got all the parts i need stripped off the first 5 ..i need 5 more already ..
Well the problem I'm have is with a 2004 cadillac CTS. I will be going down the road and the engine will shut off for 5 seconds then turn back on. The security light come on and tells me to remove the key and put it back in and restart. But it comes back on in 5 seconds by it self. Oh it's a standard that is the reason I don't have to try to start the car.
that's why right off the bat i tell you to go check out my other vid to get that far and in the title i say to go check out my fix vid i have a playlist on this truck on my channel
@@JunkworksGarage my problem has been intermittent so I dont know if it is fixed unless it happens again. All other things I have read lead me to believe the only permanent fix is to have someone in tall a remote start to do the bypass I live in so cal and I cant find anyone with acceptable knoledge to fix this it's been driving me crazy. Mine was super loose I did as u did and it made the connection secure just dont want it to happen again. Was your imminent as well?
@@alaynaanddad3825 i have several vids on different starting problems iv had on my truck in my playlist on my channel the problem is gmc / Chevy's of this area have electrical issues and it could be more than one problem so i cant grantee this will work but if it worked so far it probably fixed it for now but i resonantly had to do this again because it worked loose its just part of owning old cars they always need something
Waste of time. The connector for that wire is under the steering column and can be bypassed there with a switch for $28 on eBay if you still want to retain security features. A good GM dealer will tell you your VATS code for free.

this seams to fix mine but i have had to do it a couple times now because it rattles loose and i've had several other starting problems i have more vids in my playlist
Hell, GM is more effective at taking away your vehicle than a thief when it comes to this issue. This is just bad design and a pain in the ass for a customer.
for a few years but I have it exposed again now I have to wiggle it by hand every now and then I will be doing another vid when I can get back to working on it .
my 2000 gmc Yukon won't start it started on my lunch break but not now what can I do oh i tap the gas tank a couple of times still no idle i sound like it wants to start but wont
it could be anything from fuel pump to ignition spark sorry without more info i'm not much help i would try what is in this vid and if that doesn't work than i would look at the fuel pump
i would start at the battery. make sure power is getting from there to your power distribution box. if you have power there than you would have to diagnose each circuit but that's assuming its electrical. after that you would have to have it looked at by someone. there are too many things it could be to diagnose this way
hi there!! ok so my 2008 chevy Silverado 1500 wouldnt start, the key wouldnt turn, was told it was the ignition switch. replaced the switch now my anti theft system is activated, key still wont turn to on position. was then told its the cylinder, however cant remove that without getting the key to turn all the way to the on position. Wjat to do now?? please help.
my mechanic broke the locks on the cylinder cause at one point my key wouldnt turn. >>be careful doing this, may cause a problem with the anti theft sensor and you'll need a new cylinder completely
i have a 2007 cts cadillac i have problem with the service theft system.THE LIGTH IT'S ON BUT CAR TURN ON AND OFF BUT IT'S STOCK AND THE GAGE OF GAS AND THE TEMPERATURE NO WORKING CAN YOU HELP ME THANKS
i had replaced the hole harness from under the steering to under the dash before figuring this out but it is actually much easier i have found out to remove it when working on this anyway if you have the tool to take the wheel off
you know whats why easier? go to the fuse box and remove the security fuse for those of you with this problem try it and let me know if it worked for you

The 2004 Chevy MALIBU/CLASSIC hesitated to start under "security" trouble mode. I did everything I was advised to do// still nothing. I called GM; they advised me to Tow the vehicle and brig it to the GM dealer. I knew that my skin was going to be peeled off from these wolves. Just before i decided to call towing Co., I changed my mine and walked maybe a mile. I stooped in liquor store and purchased 500 ML(16 ounces), aged bottle of Whisky. I went back to my car and tried to turn my engine "ON" and still did not work. I called my wife to pic me up and in mean time started "sipping on the bottle"( boy -o- boy, remember that song? 'all summer long'?). After the bottle was empty, I do not know what time was but I woke up next day morning. I called my wife And asked her: " Why in the World you did not come to pic me op on the road side"?, and she said: "Honey: I brought you home but I could not pull you out from the car and you slept like a lamb. You are in our drive way Honey. Your Engine turned On in second and you drove-up 25 miles following me home. Oh; by the way: how dare you used the Whisky to clean up the engine throttle? I started signing Alleluia. I said to her: " Honey, Your pronunciation was very close". She said: -what is wrong with my pronunciation, anyway? I said: "Honey! Throttle and throat are Two different things. I cleaned one of that for sure. And it worked." The power of 16x16 ( Once x years aged) Whisky, worked better than 1000 Engineers of GM, Chrysler and Ford all together. Please do not Drink and Drive. This was just for laughing and to make fun with the idiots of GM and it's wolves: corrupted dealers.
All u got to do is unplug that wire and leave loose in their ,your security light will stay light up but your truck will start I tried all the tooth pricks wire straps nothing ,just unplug it
When I have the answer I will post it. Pass lock systems are easy to make the resistor repair for. But none pass lock key systems are the ones I'm interested in. Either way these systems have to shut down spark or fuel to stop the vehicle from running. To do this it's power to a circuit. Power is easy to reroute .

I have a 04 Blazer, security light stays on n now can't start my car. Car was bought from an auction. Thought it was spark plugs nn replaced them n wires, n the Cap. Or what ever lol I know nothing about cars. My cousins are the mechanics. They said it could be the security or alarm????
ya if the lights on it could be this problem also if you don't have the original key with a chip some cars won't start so you have to go to a dealer to get one
it could be anything from your switch to your starter i would start by checking your relays if those are good pull your starter any parts store will check it for free if that's good it could be your crank position sensor or your switch or you have a short in the wire from the relay to the starter that's everything i can think that would cause your problem good luck
@@JunkworksGarage i had this problem and fixed it very simple . mine staled then all power to blazer was gone . i found the cables to battery was very little loose so tightened and all power was back . but still security was on steady and no start . i pulled the starter relay and put back then pulled the tbc fuse seen it was good .pulled the crank fuse it was good put them back . gave up went to get my key and the security light was now flashing and blazer started and ran great . crazy but somehow it fixed it . dont just check the tbc fuse in place pull it . wait a min and put back . maybe it made the unit reset itself . also make sure doors are unlocked if open or security stays on after start then can close door or after in the car close and lock doors . i was told the crank fuse is also the ground if pulled it ha no power .somehow doing this reset the security problem or it just started working on its on . hope it dont go back out.

My 2003 Chevy Silverado is having the same issue. The anti theft light turns on and stays on. Solid not blinking. Dash lights come on when turning the key, but turn off when trying to start it. The theft light will not turn off at all after 10, 15 or even 30 minutes. Idk what else to do. Replaced ignition switch. Nothing. Tried starting from starter itself and it cranks over but does not completely turn over to start the truck. The dash lights showing are the anti theft light and the battery light. Only way light turns off is if battery disconnected or fuse is pulled out. Of course it would though. Then after 3 tries of trying to start it, it goes back to doing the same thing again. No power locks or power windows. Idk if that helps anyone. Can someome help me out? I don't want my truck to sit there anymore.
99 Silverado I turn the key security light comes on on the left then the battery light turns red and comes on turn the ignition and nothing happens has anyone else had this problem if so please help if you have a solution
Still got the truck? Does the Security light come on and stay on? Pretty easy fix though definitely an intimidating problem. When I had this problem I phoned several local GM dealers until I got a guy who knew what he was talking about at a dealer willing to divulge VATS code info for free. Once I had my VATS code I ordered on eBay a $28 bypass harness with a switch so some security features could be retained. Your truck my very likely simply need the VATS connector unplugged under the steering column and the new wiring harness installed in its place. If there is no connector, as there wasn't in my case, I had to cut the wire and solder the harness in. Same result and my 26 year old Cadillac is now a very reliable car! Battery light alone simply means the battery either needs charging or replacing.
James Baker what did your buddys truck do? Im having issues with my truck after i crashed the front it wont start. It just starts for a second but turns off right away
Christopher Grimaldo, he didn't crash but that's exactly what it was doing. It would start but then die within 1-2 seconds. I watched another video about taking the steering wheel cover off to access the passlock sensor (think that's what it's called.) They tend to become loose and lose connection causing truck to start and then die out. After checking, the sensor attached on top of the ignition(where key goes in to start truck), I noticed it was pretty loose. I put in a small piece of plastic between the sensor and sensor mount and tried to start it. After that didn't work, I searched again and found the comment we are replying to. Once I found out the location of the TBC fuse (you facing engine from front, it was all the way in the back right corner, which may differ from yours) I could tell immediately that it was bad. It had corrosion on it and broke off a prong inside if the fuse box. As soon as I replaced it and opened the doors, the dome light came on(which I figured didn't work). Turn the key to on and the daytime running lights came on. Cranked it and she purred like a kitten. You situation could be different. I'm not sure of the protocols or anything but I thought I heard some vehicles had to be flashed by the dealer after an accident, especially with airbag deployment. I hope your injuries weren't significant. I fell from 15 ft and crushed 3 vertebrae. That'll be there forever. Anyways if you want, I took a couple of pictures and can email them to you. If so, shoot me one jbaker33 @ baker.edu. no spaces obviously tho lol. And sorry for this being so long, wanted to be thorough
Guys I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer dash lights up but won't turn over new batt starter and the security light isn't on un less I turn the key all the way over but nothing happens no blown fuses
actually i meant crank position sensor if its not cranking at all it's a fairly easy part to replace im going to have a vid on it but it won't be for a while by it online and it's much cheaper too but it could be your switch as well but if you hear the click from your relay your switch is probably good if your not hearing the click i would start with the relay

Junk works DIY Garage I just got done messing with this issue after I watched your video .two things I found out u don't need to take steering wheel off to get to that pieace just take off your panels above it in front of the gauge cluster and take out bottom panel srcews and u will have room to take the coloum covers the top only needs to come off and u are there at it . 2nd thing I was going to try the basic stick idea to hold it still but read thease comments and seen some try to unplug it and it cranked so I did it and works I don't know if this is the fix yet but I'm sick of waiting 10 mins whenever it wants to pull this no starting crap lost bouns money at work over it and waited in the heat to much so I going to leave it unplugged what u think ?
