Controlling your PTZ camera with OBS has been a game changer! Ever since PTZOptics released an open source plugin for Open Broadcaster Software live streamers have had the ability to quickly take pan, tilt and zoom control of their PTZOptics camera directly from inside OBS. PTZOptics has made some significant improvements to the plugin over the past few months. Here is a list of new features for camera control using the PTZOptics OBS plugin:
xBox Joystick Camera Control Support
New ability to quickly switch between multiple cameras
New ability to zoom in and out with joystick triggers
New ability to pan, tilt and zoom with multiple controller joysticks
Control up to 8 cameras using IP
New Advanced Camera Control Area
Control cameras Pan, Tilt and Zoom Speeds
Complete control over camera exposure - Iris, Shutter Speed and Brightness
Complete control over camera image and color - Luminance, Contrast and Hue
Control over White Balance - Modes include, Auto, Indoor, Outdoor, One Push and Manual
OSD (On Screen Display Menu) Access
Image Flip and Image Mirror functions
With all of these new features, OBS users can add more video production capabilities to their live streams. But there is more! PTZOptics has just published a new list of HTTP camera commands that are available for use with OBS and other video production software that supports web browser inputs. These new HTTP camera control commands allow OBS users to automate camera pan, tilt and zoom movements based on a selected OBS scene. OBS users can simply enter a web-browser input with e HTTP camera control string to control advanced PTZOptics camera operations including pan, tilt, zoom, focus, preset positions, and OSD menu navigation. The new HTTP-CGI Command Sheet is now available for use at PTZOptics.com/Downloads.
PTZOptics also offers a free course on OBS available on UDEMY for coupon code “OBSFree” at this link - www.udemy.com/obs-live-stream....
When you input your HTTP PTZOptics camera commands into your OBS web browser input remember to click the checkbox to refresh browser when the input becomes active. It's worth mentioning that after this video was posted the PTZOptics team has added support for hotkeys. Users without an XBox joystick can use their keyboard with W, A, S, D, keys to control the pan and tilt operations of the camera. Hotkeys 1-9 are used to recall camera presets. If you use OBS hotkeys to manage your Open Broadcaster Software production you can use the PTZOptics hotkeys to sync up PTZ camera control and scene switching automation this way as well.

Has anybody had issues with the Automation feature? I tried this and it worked, but decided that it was a bit premature to implement with only one PTZ Optics 20x Gen2 camera. I went and deleted the automation sources from each scene but it will still randomly change the camera preset at times even though the automation source is no longer in each scene.
@PTZOptics
@PTZOptics 5 месяцев назад
Hello! It sounds like you've encountered an issue where OBS continues to trigger PTZ camera movements or presets even after you've removed the automation sources from your scenes. This behavior is unexpected and could be due to a few different factors, including software bugs, residual configuration settings, or issues with the plugin or script handling the automation. Here's how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Check for Hidden/Residual Automation Triggers Persistent Settings: Sometimes, settings or scripts might not be fully removed even if they appear to be. Double-check all your scenes and sources to ensure there's no hidden automation script or source left. Global Scripts: If you used a script for automation (e.g., through the OBS scripting feature), ensure that it's fully removed or disabled. Scripts might not be tied to individual scenes but could still be running globally. 2. Reset OBS Scene Collection New Scene Collection: Try creating a new scene collection from scratch without importing any of the previous settings or sources. If the issue doesn't occur in the new collection, it might have been a setting tied to the old scene collection. Re-import Scenes: If setting up everything from scratch is too time-consuming, you could try exporting your current scene collection, creating a new collection, and then selectively re-importing scenes, being cautious about automation settings. 3. Reinstall or Update PTZ Control Software/Plugin If you're using a specific plugin or external software for PTZ control and automation within OBS, try updating it to the latest version or reinstalling it to fix any potential bugs or compatibility issues. Compatibility Check: Ensure that the PTZ control software or plugin is fully compatible with your version of OBS and the PTZOptics camera firmware version. 4. Review Joystick Configuration xBox Joystick Interference: Since you mentioned using an Xbox joystick for control, double-check the joystick configuration. Ensure there are no macros or profiles that could be inadvertently triggering camera presets. Software Conflicts: If you're using third-party software to map the joystick controls to PTZ commands, ensure there's no residual configuration that might be sending commands to OBS or the camera. 5. OBS and Camera Firmware Updates OBS Update: Ensure that OBS Studio is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, bugs in OBS itself can cause unexpected behavior, and updates can resolve these issues. Camera Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your PTZOptics camera. Firmware updates can fix bugs, improve stability, and enhance compatibility with control protocols and software. 6. Contact Support If you've tried the above steps and the issue persists, consider reaching out to OBS support forums or PTZOptics support. There might be known issues or fixes that they can provide based on your specific setup. 7. Debugging and Logs OBS Logs: OBS logs can provide insights into what's happening behind the scenes. Review the logs for any errors or warnings related to scene switching or PTZ control commands. Debug Mode: If the plugin or software you're using for PTZ control offers a debug mode, enable it to gather more detailed information about when and why commands are sent. Removing automation should, in theory, stop any automated actions from occurring. If the issue persists after thorough troubleshooting, it might be a more complex software bug or a configuration oversight. Starting with a clean setup for testing can help isolate the issue. I love this, but my camera is hooked up via usb and not an ip address. Is there still a way to call the presets through the scenes?
@PTZOptics
@PTZOptics 5 месяцев назад
Hello! Using an OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) setup for PTZ camera control with scene switching automation and Xbox joystick control offers a powerful and flexible video production environment. However, if your PTZOptics camera is connected via USB and not over an IP network, the direct preset recall functionality through IP commands within OBS would not be applicable as that method relies on network communication. That said, there are alternative approaches you could explore to achieve a similar result: Software Solutions: Some software solutions allow for USB camera control and could potentially integrate with OBS through plugins or scripts. For PTZOptics cameras, PTZOptics offers PTZ camera control applications that might work over USB for basic functionalities. You would need to check if there's a way to trigger these applications or their functions from within OBS or through external scripts. Virtual Camera or Capture Card: If your camera is connected via USB, you could use it as a virtual camera or through a capture card in OBS. While this method does not directly address preset calling through USB, it allows you to use your camera within OBS. You might then use scene switching in OBS as a workaround, where each scene is set up with different camera angles if your camera supports local preset functionality that can be controlled outside of the network. Keyboard Shortcuts and Macros: Explore if your camera's control software allows for keyboard shortcuts or if there are macros that can be programmed to call presets. If so, you could use third-party software to trigger these shortcuts or macros based on specific actions in OBS or through the Xbox joystick buttons mapping to these shortcuts. External Control Surface: Consider using an external control surface that supports USB connections to cameras. Some control surfaces are designed to work with video production software and hardware, including cameras, and may offer the ability to call presets or control camera positions directly. Custom Scripting or Plugins: Depending on your technical expertise or resources, you might develop or commission the development of custom scripts or plugins for OBS that communicate with your camera's USB interface. This would be a more complex solution but could offer precisely the control you're looking for. Unfortunately, without direct IP connectivity, the seamless integration of PTZ presets and scene switching in OBS that you're seeking is more challenging to achieve. Each of these alternatives comes with its own set of limitations and complexities. It might be beneficial to consider if integrating your PTZOptics camera over an IP network is possible in your setup, as this would open up more straightforward methods for achieving your goal. I haven't seen this specific question and most online information is based on program only view within Studio. When using Studio Mode with Preview and Program (as it should be set IMO), will the http preset command take place when the scene is in preview? If it does this would alleviate the movement delay for those commands since it would already be in position before the transition to Program. I never run OBS in Program only view, always in Studio Mode to allow behind the scenes changes / corrections before the scene goes live. This is also how the professional studios do this. Perhaps, PTZ Optix can do a video with some of these things in Studio Mode and show the differences if there are any. I run 2 PTZ 30x cameras with 2 large Docks for individual camera controls.

I found by experiment that the checkbox called Shutdown Source When Not Visible seems to dismiss the browser instance when you click to a different scene having a different preset so that it will then trigger next time you click the scene in the Preview window. I only have one PTZ camera so I have a "between" scene that I can swap to be active while moving the camera so that the viewer doesn't get vertigo. Otherwise, if the camera view were active, it would change to the setting of the scene I select in Preview.

@PTZOptics
@PTZOptics 4 месяца назад
Hello! Your approach to managing PTZ camera presets during scene switching in OBS, especially with the goal of making transitions smoother and avoiding disorienting camera movements for viewers, is innovative. OBS's default behavior and limitations in Studio Mode primarily impact scene transitions and source interactions, leading to the challenges you've described. Regarding the "Shutdown Source When Not Visible" feature, you've creatively found a workaround that uses OBS's behavior to your advantage. This feature, when enabled, effectively "resets" the browser source (which I assume you're using to control the PTZ camera via its web interface or through a custom script) each time you switch away from a scene. This ensures that when you return to a scene with the browser source, it reloads and triggers any actions (like moving to a preset) anew. For your specific question about the Visca Camera Control plugin and whether it can improve your setup: Visca Camera Control Plugin The Visca Camera Control plugin for OBS is designed to provide direct control over PTZ cameras using the VISCA protocol over IP. This can potentially offer a more integrated and seamless way to manage camera positions and presets directly within OBS, including during scene transitions. Direct Control Within OBS: If the plugin supports your PTZ camera model, it allows for more direct control of the camera settings, including presets, without needing to rely on browser sources or external scripts. Preview Window Control: Depending on how the plugin implements camera control, it might offer more flexibility regarding when and how camera presets are called. Ideally, you want to be able to move the camera to a preset position while it's in the preview and not yet live to the audience. Automation and Scripts: Some plugins and OBS itself support scripting (using Python or Lua). If the Visca Camera Control plugin doesn't natively allow for preset control in preview, you might achieve this through a custom script that listens for scene changes or preview window actions and sends commands to your PTZ camera accordingly. Implementation Considerations Compatibility: Ensure the Visca Camera Control plugin supports your specific PTZ camera model and the OBS version you're using. Testing: Due to the unique nature of live production environments and the variability between different setups, extensive testing is crucial. Test any changes during non-live sessions to see how the camera and OBS interact, especially with the plugin installed. Documentation and Support: Refer to the plugin's documentation for specific instructions on configuring and using it with your PTZ camera. Plugin developers or user communities may also offer insights or solutions for achieving smooth scene transitions with PTZ preset control. Alternative Approaches If the plugin alone doesn't meet all your needs, consider combining its use with your existing workaround or exploring advanced scripting within OBS for more customized control. The ultimate goal is to ensure your camera is in the correct position before transitioning to the live view, enhancing the viewing experience without manual intervention during the broadcast. Given the evolving nature of OBS and its plugins, I recommend keeping an eye on updates to both OBS and the Visca Camera Control plugin, as new features or improvements may offer additional solutions to your scenario. @PTZOptics 6 месяцев назад
Hello! When you mention needing to manually refresh the browser to activate the feature in OBS 25.0.8, it sounds like there might be an issue with the browser source or a plugin you're using for PTZ control. Here are a few steps you could try to resolve this issue: Update OBS: First, ensure that you are using the latest version of OBS. There could be bug fixes and improvements in newer versions that might resolve your issue. Check Browser Source Settings: If you're using a browser source to control the PTZ camera, verify that the settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, auto-refresh options or script settings need to be adjusted. Review Plugin/Script Settings: If you are using a specific plugin or script for PTZ control and Xbox joystick integration, review its settings. Ensure that it's compatible with your version of OBS and configured correctly. Check OBS Logs: OBS logs can provide insights into what might be causing the issue. Look for any errors or warnings that occur around the time you have to refresh the browser. Try a Different Browser Source: If you're using a specific web-based control interface, try adding it as a different browser source to see if the issue persists. Community and Forums: Check OBS community forums or the support community for the PTZ camera or the plugin you're using. Sometimes, specific issues are discussed and resolved within these communities. Contact Support: If the issue continues, consider reaching out to OBS support or the support for the specific PTZ camera or plugin you're using. Thanks for checking out our Channel! @PTZOptics
@PTZOptics 5 месяцев назад
Hi Mike, Good question! Using an older joystick like the Logitech Wingman for PTZ camera control within OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) alongside scene switching automation is possible, but it requires a few steps to ensure compatibility and functionality. Here’s how you can set it up: Verify Joystick Compatibility with Your Operating System: First, ensure that your Logitech Wingman joystick is recognized by your operating system. Modern versions of Windows should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers when you plug in the joystick. If it’s not recognized, you may need to search for drivers or a solution online specific to your operating system. Use a Joystick-to-Keyboard Mapping Software: Since OBS and most PTZ camera control software primarily respond to keyboard shortcuts for commands (like scene switching or camera control), you’ll need software that can map your joystick’s movements and buttons to specific keyboard keys. Programs like JoyToKey (for Windows) or Enjoyable (for macOS) allow you to assign keyboard commands to your joystick’s buttons and axes. This is crucial for integrating your joystick with OBS and PTZ camera control. Configure OBS for Keyboard Hotkeys: In OBS, you can set up hotkeys for scene switching under the Settings menu in the Hotkeys section. Here, assign the keyboard keys (that you will map your joystick buttons to) to the corresponding actions in OBS, such as switching scenes or starting/stopping streaming. PTZ Camera Control: For controlling PTZOptics cameras directly or through OBS, you will typically use software like PTZOptics Camera Control App or integrate the camera with OBS using the PTZOptics OBS plugin. You'll need to ensure that the software you are using for PTZ control can either be directly controlled via keyboard shortcuts or can be indirectly controlled by mapping joystick buttons to the required keyboard shortcuts for camera movements (pan, tilt, zoom). Advanced Automation with Scripts: If you're looking into more advanced automation (like automatically switching scenes based on camera movement or external triggers), you may need to explore scripts or plugins designed for OBS. This might involve a bit of programming knowledge or the use of specialized software that can interact with OBS's API. Testing and Adjusting: After setting everything up, test your configuration thoroughly. Adjust the joystick mappings as needed for comfort and efficiency, and ensure that the joystick's response translates accurately into the intended actions in OBS and for your PTZ camera control. While this setup involves several steps and might require some trial and error, it's a great way to repurpose your Logitech Wingman joystick for a modern streaming setup. This approach not only gives you a physical control interface for your live productions but also allows for a more engaged and dynamic broadcasting experience. Thanks for checking out our Channel! does this set up works with the Insta 360 ?
@PTZOptics
@PTZOptics Месяц назад
Hello! To set up OBS PTZ camera control with scene switching automation and Xbox joystick control for an Insta360 camera, let's break down the steps and see how feasible it is: 1. OBS PTZ Camera Control OBS can control PTZ cameras using plugins like the PTZOptics OBS Plugin. For Insta360 cameras, you'll need to verify if they support PTZ control commands via a similar method. Plugin: The PTZOptics OBS Plugin may not directly support Insta360 cameras. You will need to check if there’s a specific plugin or a universal PTZ control plugin that supports Insta360 cameras. 2. Scene Switching Automation Scene switching automation in OBS can be achieved using the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin: Advanced Scene Switcher: This plugin allows you to set conditions for automatic scene switching, such as based on the active window, time, or other triggers. You can download it from the OBS Project website. 3. Xbox Joystick Control Using an Xbox joystick for camera control and scene switching in OBS can be done using software like Joystick Mapper or other third-party tools: Joystick Mapper Software: Tools like JoyToKey or reWASD can map joystick inputs to keyboard shortcuts or OBS commands. Compatibility with Insta360 Camera The main concern is whether the Insta360 camera can integrate with these control systems. Here are some steps to determine and achieve this: PTZ Control: Check if the Insta360 camera supports PTZ commands via IP, USB, or any other interface that OBS or external plugins can interact with. OBS Integration: Verify if the Insta360 camera can be added as a source in OBS. This usually involves checking if the camera supports standard streaming protocols like RTSP, NDI, or can be recognized as a USB camera. Joystick Control: Configure your joystick mapper software to translate Xbox joystick inputs to PTZ commands or OBS hotkeys. Step-by-Step Setup A. Setting up PTZ Control (If Supported) Install the PTZ Plugin: If a universal PTZ plugin exists that supports Insta360, install it in OBS. Configure PTZ Controls: Set up the PTZ controls within the plugin to communicate with the Insta360 camera. B. Scene Switching Automation Install Advanced Scene Switcher Plugin: Download and install from the OBS Project website. Configure Scene Switching: Set the conditions and triggers for automatic scene switching based on your requirements. C. Xbox Joystick Control Install JoyToKey or reWASD: Download and install JoyToKey (or any preferred joystick mapping software). Map Joystick Buttons: Configure the software to map joystick buttons to OBS hotkeys or PTZ control commands. Conclusion While the PTZOptics plugin specifically may not support Insta360 cameras, using generic plugins or mapping software can potentially achieve the desired setup. Ensure that the Insta360 camera supports the necessary control protocols and integration with OBS. If there are any specific plugins or updates related to Insta360 and OBS integration, refer to the latest documentation from Insta360 and OBS communities.

Hello! Yes, Xbox One controllers can be used for PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera control with scene switching automation in OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). This setup involves configuring the Xbox One controller to interact with OBS and potentially other software that can translate joystick commands into PTZ controls. Here's a general approach to how you might set this up: Using an Xbox One Controller for PTZ Camera Control in OBS Connect the Xbox One Controller to the Computer: You can connect the Xbox One controller to your computer either via a USB cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth. Install Necessary Software: Ensure OBS is installed on your computer. Depending on your PTZ camera model and the level of control integration you want, you might need additional software to bridge the communication between the Xbox controller and the PTZ camera. This could include PTZ control software that accepts joystick input, or you may need a software tool that can map joystick buttons to keyboard shortcuts or OBS commands. Configure OBS for PTZ Camera Control: If your PTZ camera is NDI-enabled, you can add it to OBS as an NDI source. Otherwise, you'll need to connect the camera to your computer via HDMI (using a capture card) or USB. Set up scenes in OBS for each PTZ camera position or view you want to switch between. Map Xbox One Controller for Scene Switching: Use OBS’s native support for joystick buttons as hotkeys, or use third-party software to map the Xbox controller’s buttons to switch between scenes in OBS or to control camera movements. Software like JoyToKey or similar can be used to map the Xbox controller buttons to keyboard keys that are then assigned as hotkeys in OBS. Calibration and Testing: Calibrate the controller input sensitivity if necessary, especially for precise PTZ control. Test the entire setup by controlling the PTZ camera and switching scenes in OBS using the Xbox One controller to ensure everything works seamlessly. Considerations Latency: There might be a slight delay in response, especially for PTZ control, so consider this in a live production environment. Software Compatibility: Ensure that all software used in the setup is compatible and supports the functions you need. Learning Curve: It might take some time to get used to controlling the PTZ camera and switching scenes with a gaming controller, so practice before going live. Conclusion Using an Xbox One controller for PTZ camera control and scene switching in OBS is a creative and viable solution. It requires connecting the controller to your computer, configuring OBS, potentially using additional software for button mapping, and setting up the PTZ camera as a source in OBS. While this setup allows for a unique and versatile control system, it's important to test and practice thoroughly to ensure smooth operation during live productions.

Adding a call for the "coming soon! for years now" MacOS OBS support. If you aren't actively working on this (and it seems you aren't, not after so many months and months of Windows-only updates going by...), say so: "We're a PC-only company, with no [plans,ability,budget...] to produce a MacOS version, sorry"

John Plocher - I want to say that we are almost done the Mac version of this plugin. While the standalone Mac app is done, the plugin still needs a couple more weeks. It’s coming so stay tuned

this is great and all, but it isn't really useful. you need the camera to move to the certain preset and THEN take the scene. what's the point of this? otherwise you could just recall a preset. the idea is a scene is a complete setup, and to me you don't want to take the camera zipping around to air until it's still on the preset.

Hey Taylor, You've raised an important point regarding the use of OBS for PTZ camera control with scene switching, especially when integrating an Xbox joystick for control. The key to an effective and professional-looking production is to ensure that camera movements (like moving to a preset position) are completed before the scene goes live. Here's how you might address this: 1. Delayed Scene Switching Scripting: If you're using OBS with scripts (like Python or LUA), you can create a script that first sends the command to move the PTZ camera to a preset and then, after a specified delay, switches to the scene. This delay allows the camera to finish moving before the scene goes live. External Control Software: Some PTZ camera control software allows you to set up sequences or macros where you can define a series of actions, including delays. You can use such software in conjunction with OBS. 2. Manual Control for Precision Xbox Joystick: When using an Xbox joystick for PTZ control, consider manually switching scenes after you've moved the camera to its desired position and it has settled. This approach gives you maximum control over the timing. Practice and Timing: With practice, you can get a sense of how long each camera takes to move to its preset and manually switch scenes at the right moment. 3. Advanced Automation Solutions Integration with Control Systems: For more sophisticated setups, professional control systems (like those from Crestron or Extron) can be programmed for complex sequences, including PTZ presets and scene switching with precise timing. Use of Middleware: Software solutions that act as a bridge between your PTZ controls and OBS can offer more nuanced control, allowing for timed sequences and automatic scene switching. 4. OBS Plugins Custom Plugins: Explore if there are any OBS plugins available that can offer more advanced control over PTZ cameras and scene switching. The OBS community often develops plugins that add specific functionalities. 5. Feedback to OBS Developers Community Input: The OBS community is active, and the developers often consider feedback for future updates. Sharing your input about this specific need could influence future versions of OBS. For professional-looking broadcasts, especially when using PTZ cameras, it's indeed crucial to manage the timing of camera movements and scene transitions carefully. While OBS provides great flexibility, it may require additional scripting, external software, or manual control for precise timing of camera movements and scene switching.
