Lyrics:
I assume a true above and below
one more and first of all
I endeavor the deadly uniformity
that erudition brought into the world
I doubt wherever the earth's gravity
that is boldly presumed to extend
over the whole structure of the world
effective beyond a certain radius
Aeon, uniformity, divine
this empty space extending on all sides
where the suns of the suns are subordinated
I thought of a great manifold of different ones
Where double stars moving alternately
round each other but not round a third one
a whole that does not tolerate a middle
as masses of light flow into each other
If this universe increased to its extremity
when the other side transists into a black hole
a downward spiral of the corporeal masses
our existence is complete in both directions
I assume a separation of powers that be
of purely demonic divine chaos
I endeavor the deadly uniformity
that erudition brought into the world
When we can pass over into the other
a world, pure and silent through death
this empty space extending on all sides
a true above, a true below

Wow... it's fascinating how music changes throughout time to our ears... I remember that when I was just getting into metal this song just sounded like noise... Now that I listen to this it's amazing One of the best (if not the best) death metal track in history

I remember being 13 yo and getting into Death Metal for the first time with Death album Individual Thought Patterns. Was just getting into meatl with Sepultura, Metallica, Megadeth and Pantera a year before. That Death album sounded cool to me but at the same time like you said "noise". It was fast, I couldn't get all that was going on. I had the perception that all songs sounded the same. Oh my that when you get to know more about music, getting your brain able to follow each instruments, and just getting used to complex stuff change how I listen to music and perceive these albums nowadays.

Exactly how i felt. I'm a 54 yr old who used to listen to deep purple, rainbow, scorpions, iron maiden, bon jovi and those hard rock/hair metal and heavy metal bands from all those past yrs(early 80's to mid 2000).Then i discovered mors principium est,my very first melodic death metal band that i ever listened to and there's simply no turning back.Have to say at this moment obscura IS my favourite, top of the list!! I've been made fun of by friends for being too old for this genre, fuck that, who cares right? Death metal rules!!!

I'm religious (Russian Orthodox to be precise) and yet I perform, listen and live heavy metal each day. Listening to Metal does not make you a Satanist or hate God. And if you believe that listening to music that you love means that you'll end up in Hell, then so be it. People like you really get on my nerves and not only are you not helping yourself as a person, you're also shitting over Christianity and Religion in general. Well done.

@ryanohlson4181
@ryanohlson4181 8 лет назад
Yea, the instrumental work is faster and more technically rigorous like Necrophagist, but compositionally it has a lot more in common with death. A greater focus on melody, atmosphere, and progressive structures. Most Necrophagist songs are focused mainly on brutality and technicality, while there's a lot more melody and atmosphere here, they're more willing to slow things down and let the song breathe a bit, and there's a lot more of a prog influence, similar to later Death.

Tool bored me, and the others I have yet to give a fair listen, but from what I have heard I didn't get much out of them. I didn't mean to imply they were bad bands or anything. They may be rare exceptions, but the number of crappy popular metal bands far outweigh the good ones. Maybe I should just stop talking. I have a tendency to make points that mean nothing lol.

@MetalPhanatic666 Let's face it: Publicity is poison to metal. We need no more examples than the fall of Metallica. Just enquiring, what's the difference between Catholics and Orthodox Christianity (I'm Protestant)? I know that the two split during the Great Chasm over the use of icons, but the Catholics in my country have tonnes of depictions of Jesus and the saints. Are those icons and if not, what are icons? PS. Don't bother arguing with this John Karkov. Looking at his previous comments make one sick.

"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse," romans 1:20 If you go to hell, it will be without excuse! ! ! come and repent of your sins, give your life to Jesus Christ :) p.s there is no such a thing as atheists, read the verse again.

What do you wish to gain by worshiping satan? The bible says that the wages of sin = death. !REPENT OF YOUR SINS! "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8. THERE IS NO PARTY IN HELL!! REPENT OF YOUS SINS. COME TO CHRIST :)

Personally I love everything about this band/son, but if you don't like the vocals that is understandable. You like what you like, but if you ever get a chance just for shits and giggles look up Obscura - Septuagint Bass Cover. Find a guy with youtube name CannabilisticZombie he does an amazing cover its soooo kewl. As for the vocals maybe it's something you can eventually get used to, if not thats kewl too. The fact you recognized the instrumental talent is all that really matters.

I'm not standing up for Chelsea Grin/Suicide Silence-esque deathcore, but there is good deathcore out there, nor are all breakdowns gay. I'm sure that you're aware that Suffocation uses lots of breakdowns, and they were one of the pioneers of death metal. Breakdowns are a critical part of death metal, and although they have been saturated by Rise/Fearless/Sumerian-death/metal/post-hardcore groups, they still belong in death metal in small amounts.

Of course this is wholly based on personal perception. I'm not trying to take a youtube shit on you in any way. Tech death is called technical death metal because not only does it have those random key and time changes but it's also very technically challenging--there are lots of blast beats and sweeps and arpeggios and whatnot. But it still totally has it's roots in progressive metal--and so does 'djent'. Meshuggah is definitely not progressive metal--but they have roots in it.

I actually do think Djent is a genre...but it's a slim difference from math metal. I know I'll probably get a lot of crap for that opinion but it's true :P If you look at a band such as Dream Theater, one of the most defining elements that makes them prog metal are the random time and key changes that they're famous for. Otherwise they're just a generic shitty power metal band :P When you look at tech-death most bands have a ton of key and time changes. So does 'djent'. Thus, I see similarity

When I think of progressive metal I think of, Dream theater, symphony x, toxik etc. And just so you know, djent isn't actually a genre, its the over pronounced mids and technique from the guitar, which meshuggah definitely has but they are not progressive metal. And "random time changes and whatnot" is definitely present in regular death metal as well not just technical death metal. Most prog death metal bands are basically just prog metal bands with death metal vocals, which tech death isn't.

In regards to the comparison of Meshuggah to tech death, tech death has its roots in Progressive Metal, with it's random time changes and whatnot. So in this regards, 'Djent' is in some ways a distant cousin to tech death. That being said, I used to hate tech death, because I thought it was just guys saying "Hey, look how fast and obnoxiously I can play!" Then I found Obscura, and now I love tech death!

I still don't understand your problem with technical death metal, its not always suppose to as brutal as regular death metal, like Obscura isn't really the same as most tech death bands like dying fetus, suffocation, spawn of possession etc are much heavier than this because its prog/tech death. Meshuggah has nothing to do with tech death bands at all unless your comparing the amount of mids in their guitar tone that can sometimes be described as "djenty"

I think the guitars sound balanced and sound great. Tech death was started way before Meshuggah, and they sound nothing like any tech death I have ever heard, no growling vocals, their guitar work definitely isn't technical compared to Obscura, Suffocation, Spawn of Possession etc and is much more "groovy" Seems like you just hate tech death for some reason or your just trolling because nothing you say makes sense.
