OCD is actually so painful and annoying. A lot of people use this term to look cool. It's not a trend. It's not about being organized. It's a disorder. For me, it has become stronger over the years. I experience it so often. It hurts when I try to not think about something but my mind still focuses on that. I try to change the subject through a distraction but it doesn't work easily. It's getting harder for me. No matter how hard I try. I hope someday it gets way. 🥺

I used to have a mild case in my early teens and thankfully managed to overcome this. My wife has a very severe case of OCD where everything must be cleaned. She hates dust and hair the most. Once something is used it needs to be wiped down thoroughly. This ranges from her hair brush after brushing her hair to cleaning up the whole bathroom after using the toilet/shower. We tend not to go out anymore now as much because she can not put her make up on as if she takes it out it'll take her longer to clean it up afterwards. Our relationship is suffering and she is too. It hurts me to watch her do these things. I have tried to stop her, the same way I stopped myself through sheer will and rational thinking, but she says that when I tell her to stop, it causes her to do more. On the flip side she also asks me to help her. Especially when she blames me for the compulsions. An example that happened recently is after she used cream on her face I put the cream back in to the draw without wiping it. She then ended up up wiping the cream tub extra long, and then spent 2 hours wiping the draw. And asking me to help her with getting her towels etc. I Know I shouldn't listen or help her with her compulsions as this makes it worse but then we just argue. Life is tough for us and I know it is tough for her. It's gotten to the point where she doesn't want medical help and says that she likes doing the cleaning. That she'd rather everything be clean and spotless rather than do anything else. I don't know who to share this with so I'll just leave it here. I pray to God she becomes better and we live our lives normally

This is so heartbreaking. My mother is going through something very similar, more so to be accurate. But it's hard for us to get her into treatment. You could try by visiting a therapist once. Just take her. Even if she refuses. Tell her she doesn't have to put on makeup at all

"We tend not to go out anymore now as much because she can not put her make up on " wait you wont go out with her if she doesnt put on makeup? damn man thats kinda harsh. in all seriousness tho she needs to get some help, its not healthy and its ruining the relationship and you should push her to get some. can also look at meditation and grounding , perhaps wim hof method, but like she has to wana do that, if she prefers to be in the state of cleaning all the time, idk what to tell you, got to ask yourself if thats what you want to live with. i cant imagine what sex is like, does she shower for 2 hours? what if she fondout how dirty the water really is or all the shit flying in the air, or every time you flush all that cirvulates in the air

I have primarily obsessional OCD and scrupulosity. I deal with intrusive thoughts that have made me want to kill myself multiple times. Luckily, I have not attempted. My scrupulosity has to do with swearing, inappropriate jokes, and rules. If someone swears around me, my compulsion is to tell them to knock it off, and I will often gain more anxiety if they don’t listen to me or continue. Same with inappropriate jokes. This makes me susceptible to bullying, as someone who I thought was a friend started swearing pretty badly around me just to trigger me. Another thing is rules. Rules must be followed or I’ll have a panic attack. Another thing is that I must get high grades or I’ll have a panic attack. I also can’t get in any form of trouble or I get anxious. I’m also very sensitive to sudden, loud, and especially high-pitched noise. Last thing is that I have OCPD, which is why I am a perfectionist and enforce my rules onto others. I am seeing a therapist and am about to go through CBT. I am in high school, by the way.

I've said this again, but like, I feel that intrusive thoughts ruined my childhood. I spent what was suposed to be my happiest years thinking I was evil and impure because all those disturbing thoughts and images popped up in my head. I only learned that it's an ocd symptom this year and I cried.

I’m not completely sure if I have OCD but I have a lot of intrusive thoughts (and always have) and I have this idea that the even numbers are good, so if I have a word, say education, I’ll count the letters out in my hands and if the word is uneven I’ll try and reform the sentence in a way that the sentence will have an even amount of letters. I hope this doesn’t sound as ridiculous as I think it does, but this task is very time consuming if I do it over and over (which I tend to do) and if I don’t do it I think something bad will happen. I was just wondering if this sounded like ocd to anyone?

I don't know if I have OCD (though I do have ADHD and general anxiety disorder) so here's some of the things I do. 1. Whenever I eat I have to count how many bites I take out of my food and it must be half or a multiple of my age in the end. (Typically 70 or 140 because I like even numbers and zeros) 2. Relating to number 1, if I am eating multiple pieces of the sane food (like chicken nuggets or pizza for example) I have to take the exact same number of bites out of each piece to add up to a specific multiple of my age or half of my age (like 35, 70, or 140). 3. When I drink bottled water I have to drink in sevens, but I have to swallow three times while holding the bottle in my right hand, once in the middle with both hands, and then three more times with my left, and the occasional rinse and repeat. 4. If I do something strange and get a sensation on one side (Like hitting my desk in a certain way) then I have to copy it exactly on the other side. At least I'm good at math. For now this is all I can think of. I'm not officially diagnosed because my mom says the ADHD medicine should help, but I'm not so sure.

I don’t know if i have it either but I do the exact same thing you do except for number 1 when I eat cereal or something using a spoon I have to put my entire mouth on it and nothing can fall down because if it does, then I tell myself things won’t happen like for example I won’t get to marry a specific person.. I know it sounds ludicrous but if I don’t do it I get stressed and can’t eat

Depression medication has helped tone down my rituals, but I still have the manifestations of things in my home have to be sitting in their place 'perfectly'. And my kitchen sink MUST be completely free of anything and wiped down....or I go nuts. I don't have rugs with 'fringe' because I have to 'comb' the fringe straight ALL the time. It is not normal and having ocd since i was small my advice is to look into exposure therapy that is the only way. Expose yourself and let the anxiety ride out once you repeat this and habituate your trigger decreases instead of creating new rituals to decrease the anxiety. It will continue if you give in which is the rituals and over thinking. Good luck to you its a bitch of a disorder but you can do it!

something that helped me with obsessive hand washing: if I keep washing my hands all the time, my immune system will not improve. if I wash them less often, the germs my body is exposed to will boost my immune system and so it is a good thing to wash your hands less (this is a fact, and hope this helps someone else)

The fear of having other people touch my stuff is definitely gone down and it doesn't bother me nearly as much anymore, but it's still there. @@pineneedles_8845 I've had this for a long time. I guess the real solution that worked for me is to try to stop using soap or anything else to wash your hands and just water. Over time, your hands will heal and the cuts will go away. Just try your best to stop repeating and proceeding action. I know the urge and anxiety gets really intense, but the only possible way to stop is to refuse action, even if it makes you lose your sanity many times.

Well i think i hat OCD or something similar. Back then I was about 10-13 Years old. I always needed to right over my text on the paper like always up to 7 or 8 times because i always said to my self in my mind "you need to right it down eight times". It was a big big habit and i cried about it because i wanted it to stop. But i dont have it that extreme anymore since i do therapy. Maybe just a little when i wash my hands but not up to 8 times because i am able to say to myself that water is special and is really expensiv. Since then nothing really bad happened to me. And i most likely have much stress in my life but that is kind of normal or sometimes kinda annoying for me.

I am not trying to self diagnose but I feel like I may have OCD, because I constantly check things over and over and over, and often when I walk, I try to walk in a pattern so that each foot steps on the floor tiles the same amount of times. The thing that is worst for me is that every time I see text/ words I count them in a rhythm of twos, to see if there is an even amount of letters. If there is not, I hid my breath until I find another piece of text to look at and I count that too until there is an even amount of letters altogether. It is so annoying; I don’t know if it is ocd and it is just awkward talking to my family about it because my brain tries to convince me that I don’t have it, that I am fine, when I am not :(

Such a big part of getting on the road to recovery is being honest with yourself about it! It’s far easier said than done and acknowledging that it’s there can be a scary thing but I absolutely believe in you. May not mean much from a stranger on the internet but as someone who’s working through the same process as well I have faith that this is a small part the both of us are capable of. Parents can be awkward to tell but they are a necessary step in getting the help we need, depending on what we really even need help on. My OCD would make me think I literally committed a sin worse then any other if I haven't which may sound ridiculous now but to me back then it's a testament of the ability to make anyone beilive anything if you say it for long enough. My OCD was insanely sadistic. I felt like I was doing the will of a divine being so that pushed me further and destroyed a huge part of my teenage life

For me specifically its I have to go through a door about three times or something bad will happen to me like losing my identity or losing my memory. Or reading a book or text a number of times to relief myself. It gets so stressful sometimes I can't even sit down for a moment or be in peace bc that thought is always in the back of my mind.

I have literally no idea if I have it but people keep telling me I should go see a therapist or something. Its like someone is making u do stuff, like I can't walk 5steps on my right foot with doing it on my left again to make it feel right.I always touch stuff a certain amount of times until it feels right.I somehow can't leave anything that i done unless it feels right and If I leave it I get annoyed/out of order

I feel like I have mild OCD, I never like to text with lowercased letters and I need periods commas ETC.) I need my homework to have perfect handwriting, I need my room to be clean, If I see a book put sideways I need to make it straight. If I have one flyaway in my hair I get irritated. If I don't have an even amount of followers on a social media EX.) 47,9,8,56 I get very angry but If I have an even amount of followers EX.) 45, 50, 35, 90 I feel happy. All my grades need to be A's or else I don't feel good. My home screen needs to look perfect- I need to type stuff up /search stuff up with perfect grammar. It's taking over my life!!! What should I do?

1:35 my mom and sister used to call me a hypochondriac while it turns out i just had OCD. It’s unfair, and i don’t get why they thought it was ok, it caused me trauma, and i hated it.

Okay so i don't know if i really have it but, every time i finish washing dishes or washing my hands i close the faucet then when i turn around i feel like it's still not close so i just look at it for a minute then check it with my hand if it's really close and i always do it it's so annoying. Same with if i really close the refrigerators door or cabinets it's so annoying.

Idk if I have ocd or not, I’m not obsessed on being clean or tidy but I do have anxiety when I don’t do a daily ritual.

So I have had a lot of different things happen that I think might be ocd For instance, I have repeatedly been swallowing as a kind of stress reliever and also twitching my eyes Another thing is I have to do something a certain number of times Like if I use something on one side of my body I need to make sure I do it with the other side to make it even It makes me so infuriated because I can’t control it If someone in a video that I’m watching doesn’t do something a certain amount of times or does something with one hand and not the other, I feel like the world is ending Please help

Ive been obsessively grunting every few seconds for over 5 years now. If I dont Im convinced my heart is gonna stop and its getting to the point where I cant stand it anymore I just want the grunting to stop. Im also terrified of having bad teeth so I aggressively brush my teeth almost constantly now Im just getting really sick of it. I feel like my mind is being controlled by a little monster who convinces me what I do is good for me but it sucks so bad. Im basically gaslighting myself
