I’m writing this here because I have no where else to say this. I’m a 14 year old and I have these rituals, but I don’t want to self diagnose. Whenever I walk down my hallway, I have to step on every other tile. If I want to open an app I have to do it 3 different times before actually using the app. Every night I push my bed against the wall 8 times and if I don’t I feel like my family is in danger. I’m afraid to ask to be properly diagnosed because I don’t want to be a financial burden. I don’t know why I’m typing this, I just needed to get it out.

I have OCD and a speech disorder, ( My doctor said i'm over worried, but all of my symptons are exactly the same as OCD and speech disorder symptons ) I'm like you but it's worse, i can't arrange words and make it into a sentence, it's just like there's 1000 words in my mind and i can't use all of them at once, so everytime i'm speaking, i stutter alot to choose which word should i use, I started to be bored of living, it's like i'm a living corpse, i keep saying something wrong all the time, when i'm speaking it feels like i already said that word even though in reality i haven't and it's just my imagination, annoying disease, i have to re read words over and over again for 30 times, i have to say words over and over again for 30 times, even when i'm typing, it feels like everything is wrong and i had to delete some wrong words, because there are too many word that pops up in my mind and i keep saying the first words that pops in my mind, which is sad. Also i'm 14 and an Indonesian native speaker, even i don't use english as a native language, my english wasn't this bad.

From what I’ve experienced and noticed, OCD differs A LOT between person to person. But it’s really nice to see people connecting over their struggles in the comments. I went a long time without a diagnosis for my OCD and other disorders and I genuinely thought I was crazy. But a diagnoses makes connecting with others and understanding how your own brain works a fair amount easier. Anxiety disorders are scary, if anyone reading this has one, I know the struggle. Stay strong.

When I was a child, I used to avoid stepping on the cracks on the sidewalks. And I also count the steps before crossing a particular crack. The count has to end in even numbers, and my step should always end on my right foot before crossing the crack. If not, I would get anxious and scared. Is that OCD?

My OCD affects how I play games. If I get an unwanted thought while playing a game, it affects how I make progress. For example, an unwanted thought might make me remember something important to the game, but since It was an unwanted thought, I don't do that "important thing" and pretend like I didn't remember it. A better example next. I like being creative, building and etc. An unwanted thought might trigger something creative for me to build. Guess what? It was an unwanted thought that I didn't like, so once again, I pretend like I didn't remember it.

OCD just makes me feel insane. Everything is so much harder and confusing. I count things. Over and over. Just to confirm that I was right about what I counted lol. Everything has to be level and even. If I touch something with one hand and not the other, I feel unbalanced. As I’m walking on the sidewalk I count my steps and make sure that I never step on the cracks. Only liking numbers to be by multiples of 5; the tv, my car radio, my phone, even the clock bothers me when it doesn’t end with a 0 or 5. I don’t think people realize how exhausting it is. Or how when I forget to set the radio on the right number before I leave the car I feel like something bad will happen to me or someone I love. It’s so ridiculous. I can even see and understand it’s ridiculous. But to my brain it’s not. And it’s so hard to control the impulses. I feel for anyone that goes through this. Whether you have the same experience or something different. OCD is complex and different with everyone and it’s rough.
@kamryknudsen8097

No way. Your compulsions are just like mine, like all of them. They're exhausting. But I have another compulsion which is the most exhausting one, jumping 18×9 times while landing on both of my kegs at the same time because I have to do things in either 18 times or 9 times depending on the number of pairs of that certain object(my compulsions mostly include moving certain objects, or myself) and 5×5 if that thing is my phone.

Repetitive thoughts on the conscious (Pre-Frontal Cortex) usually induce hyperactivity in the caudate nucleus and overtime (months or years) causes dysfunction and in this case lead to OCD by create a brain circuit (neural pathway) to the thoughts that the conscious (Pre-Frontal Cortex) thinks it's important. This is the real cause of OCD. Note: Sometimes (in some cases) due to high stress or TBI the caudate nucleus stops working due to genetic factors and/or acquired behavioral which lead to OCD.

Advice for people who have ocd. I had severe OCD and I was able to fight it and now I have healed from it. One of the best thing to do is to get help before it’s to late and you gain severe or can’t control your ocd. Try to get help from professionals or those who you trust and understand ocd or learn to understand ocd they could help you or find help for you. Ocd comes in many different ways so I wrote down the principles that helped me overcome my ocd. What I’ve learned from my experience which could help you is to not give in to the intrusive thoughts and feelings of regret, discomfort, fear, disgust, and anxiety. Do not justify those intrusive thoughts and feelings that they are true or reality because it will make you want feel brave, and will make you want you to do something about it to fight those intrusive thoughts and feelings but that will just lead into rituals, compulsions, obsessions and into a cycle of an never ending loop, it will make things worse than they are. As long as you give those thoughts and feelings attention or satisfaction they will never go away. Just understand justifying those thoughts and feelings will cause you more pain and suffering. Accept and understand that they are just feelings and thoughts they are illusions. In reality these thoughts and feelings do not define who you are and do not effect the world, reality, you, your surroundings, or anyone. Just live with those thoughts and feelings don’t try to fight it or do anything about it and in seconds or minutes even hours days or weeks it will be as if nothing ever happened. Make a promise that you will not give into the intrusive thoughts and feelings. Promise yourself you are ok and nothing bad will happen. Promise yourself this is for your self and well being. Stay strong It will be difficult but Don’t give up there will be some bumps along the way but as long as you remember to keep your promise you haven’t broken it. Be patient it will take time for everyone it will be different but in a month, days or weeks you will return into a happy normal life. Even when I have recovered I sometimes have temporary ocd but when I remember my promise I am able to recover using the technique. I hope it helps you as it helped me. If you have any questions I am willing to to try my best to answer them if I can.

OCD feels like your brain is holding you hostage. Quite literally. You want so badly to ignore the obsessions and compulsions… but at the same time your brain is somehow convincing you that the fate of another life is at your hands if you don’t comply. It’s really exhausting.

Also,I tend to be afraid of things,even though I know they aren't real,my mind still tries to scare me. I used to..well,I still do,Make up words or things like that,and tell myself,"unless I say this word, nothing can hurt me" The worst part though,Is I tend to get "Images" in my head,Gore, People being hurt or hurting me,etc. I didn't tell my mother about this until I was twelve, because I was Terrifyed People would think I was crazy,but my mother immediately reconized it,as she has ocd herself. I came to conclusion that I have OCD because it can be any thought, any situation that becomes an obsession, even sometimes I struggle obsessively with my own daily thoughts or ideias and my brain repeats them over and over again, it’s a horrible feeling overall, stress, anxiety, obsessive thoughts and leads sometimes to panic attacks!! i’ve been having constant checking acts ever since i was 10. i would go to bed, but then run to the front door and check if the door is properly locked. i would go back to my room but go to the door again to check it, if i don’t, i think about someone breaking in or hurting me or my family. i constantly check my electrical appliances, to see if they’re turned off, if i don’t i think about a fire starting in my house and people getting hurt. i sometimes switch the light off and on again until it feels okay and i’m calm. i have to touch things and certain textures to help calm me down. i’ve always thought everyone does this, do i have the possibility of having ocd?

If there was one way to describe OCD, it's this. It's when your brain does not agree with the facts. I, and others with OCD could have proof shown, facts laid out, but we feel anxiety regardless and we are repetitive. We have to double check something until we know for certain it will turn on or what not. We feel uncomfortable if we don't repeat something one last time. Thankfully my OCD is not severe, but that doesn't mean that it does not affect me.

I haven't been diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I have OCD. At the beginning (5 years ago) it was really difficult to live with. I was only 13 and I thought I was mentally ill. I didn't want to tell my parents about it, fearing they would find me crazy. I thus suffered in silence and it got worse and worse. I had many compulsions and I made ritual patterns to soothe myself. It was really exhausting. In fact, I couldn't be happy anymore. But, 2 years ago or so, I figured that I could just accept and ignore those intrusive thoughts. I saw that as a challenge and I gradually got rid of some of them. These last two years, I've finally opened up and tried to tell what I had to some people but, except for my older sister, no-one really understood my pain. Now that I'm of age and able to make decisions for myself, I think about talking to a psychiatrist. I reckon it might help me. I ain't a professional and I don't know a lot about the subject but I'd be glad to help you. Feel free to share you own experience with me. Good luck to everyone who's suffering of that annoying disorder...

@aaronfukuoka1634
@aaronfukuoka1634 4 года назад
2-3% is a pretty accurate estimate. Chances are, the people you're running into at work don't have OCD; they're likely detail-oriented in a high-stress environment. Anyone can be detail-oriented (esp important in fields like computer science), but most know when to stop and submit a project. Those who are diagnosed with OCD usually can't stop and bring themselves to submit their materials. They feel they missed a detail and need to repeat edits x amount of times until they are content with it.

If you want to be easier let go of your ocd, you have to accept what you couldnt, and most important... to forgive yourself. For me, ocd is also because you have smthing that you dont want to realize, somthing traumatic that you dont want it to get in your mind, so everytime it started to go up you tried to defense it with ocd. Thats why it feel like rules, its just a rues that what you should do to makes you comfortable to yourself that not realizing something.. I can confirm that ocd is a hard life style, mine manifested when I was ab 6-7 yrs old and I was scared of lying or hurting others, fast forward 2022 I’m 15 and I suffer from not damaging my belonging such as: my Nintendo switch, if I set it down I’ll feel like damaged it such a bending it and it can often be very debilitating to buy anything of value, along with that I often suffer with taboo thinking ocd which leads me to think I harm people or perform ill will towards them, this causes me great stress throughout the day and often makes me feel depressed and isolated and even morally filthy, that’s my experience anyway

I thought its just normal behavior for me to feel safe or secure. But I never thought its a disorder. so cool!

What if you are so forgetful and lose things that you must check twice or more to make sure you have lost anything or left something on or back in the house? I always lose personal items and have to check to make sure I have them. I continually stuff stuff in my pockets and bags and folders to know that it is all there. I’ve searched everywhere for anyone who has ever experienced something like this. I have a “type of ocd” (don’t want to self diagnose) where it’s like my body is split in the middle and everything I do on the right side I have to do on the left side and vice versa. So when I flip a page while reading a book, I might slightly move my elbow over to balance it out. Which makes stuff like typing extremely hard, without my brain trying to murder me. And they can’t be just random movements either; when I move it into a certain position and it finally feel right, that’s when it ends. And then it’ll start back up again 2 seconds later. But it doesn’t stop there. If I imagine doing something in my head, like dancing, but I’m doing more movements on the right than the left, I have to physically fix it by doing some sort of movement on my left side in real life until it feels right.

I just recently found out about this disorder. I thought i was the only one who was doing such weird things. I'm pretty sure i'm struggling with repeating and intrusive thoughts. I remember very clearly how it all started, it was when i was very little, like when i was 5-6?? Im 14 now. i remember kicking the wall with my right leg and (i know this sounds very dumb) but i thought to myself "my poor left leg and arm...i barely use them it's always the right leg and right arm getting the best treatment!" And from that point on, I decided these rules that my left side will always go first and after, it will be right sides turn. It was like they had to be equal and i think thats why i always was and still am obsessed with touching things 2,4,6,8 ect. like, even number amount of times and the same goes when i walk. I have to get out of bed with my left leg first, then right, left, right, left, right. Start with left and end with right. I read about other peoples experiences with repeating things and most of them say that if they do it wrong, they repeat the entire process but i just "fix" it if i do a mistake. For example, i accidentally started walking with my right leg, so to fix this mistake i will take two steps forward with my left leg and then one step with my right and continue walking left, right, left, right. This also happens when im walking through the road and i need to look to both sides to see if theres cars but usually i mess up and look right first, so i have to look left 2 times, then right. Now, intrusive thoughts. The earliest ones i can remember from when i was very young was when i would go into the store with my mother and i would often think what would happen if i pushed down the shelves and everything would fall down and break? I never did it, but i had this thought very often. I would also think about my mom trying to kill me in my sleep when i was little. My intrusive thoughts are now way worse and i hate them i dont want to think about them because theyre absolutely disgusting and like the video said i often try to imagine good thoughts to push away the bad ones but of course it doesnt work for me... I wont say what type of intrusive thoughts i get very often but i will name one as an example: i could be walking to take out the trash and theres a man walking by, i instantly start to think about how ill get kidnapped and the things that the person will do to me, i wont even say what because its absolutely disgusting and i despise these thoughts i wish i could just delete them. Also as another example, i could be looking at a very cute picture of a cat, but then my intrusive thoughts start thinking about the cat dead, in blood and its organs spilling out of the body i hate this so freaking much 🙁I also just wanted to say that i'm not obsessed with cleaning and actually it's the very opposite because i like it when my room has a lot of stuff in it and is messy this type of room gives me comfort and makes me feel safe so this might not be ocd for me but something else im not sure maybe im just weird...i cant get diagnosed by a doctor because my family knows i have misophonia, but they wont get me diagnosed because theyre scared that if i do, i might not get a job when i grow up, so even if i tell my family about my concerns of having ocd im scared that even by doctors it will be just brushed off as puberty, my phone and even if my family would understand i doubt they'd take me to get it diagnosed. Sorry for my poor english and grammar if anyone even read this dump. English is my second language.

I don't actually see them as disorders though, and I live a very normal life where I sometime forget I even have them. I was never on any treatment and was raised to embrace it. Sometimes I'll be in a situation and I'll be like "OH yeah, I'm OCD. Well that explains it." Then I move on😂 what I'm saying is, you don't have to suffer. As someone with OCD, it’s important to mention: When we do the “rituals” that seem obscure, weird and not logical, WE KNOW THAT IT’S WEIRD AND NOT LOGICAL. But we still need to do it. That’s what’s so upsetting, knowing it but having trouble avoiding doing it

Yeah, if I don't do them I feel a feeling of anxiety or a compulsion to do it. If I don't I feel extremely uncomfortable.

If you observe closely, every person has mental disorder of some kind. It's just that we're having more tests nowadays to learn about these things.

I’m at a point where I’m not diagnosed, so I don’t claim to have OCD. But I have these obsessions and compulsions that inhibits my ability to think clearly. I’m often attacked by thoughts that trouble me greatly. It’s like torture, I have these moments where I’m surrounded in irrationality but there’s that looming sense of unsureness. I don’t know at this point.

This video forgot to mention that most of the times the sufferer undertands that the obsessions and compulsions are irrational. I have severe OCD myself, mostly hygiene related. When I was at my worst i could stay in the shower for over 5 hours. It's not that I actually believe that i'm still dirty and I know that I can't get any more "clean", but as fast as I leave the shower I get a weird compulsion to enter the shower again, Sometimes without any motive at all, It just dosens't "feel right". It's really weird to explain. People are always to judgmental and says things like "just snap out of it" it's like telling an addict to just stop using.

I get it. It's like having a soul wedgie. Every thing feels wonky and off. I was on food loop for a while. I had to eat a donut every day. If I didn't, it was all I could think about for the rest of the day. I'll admit I like sweets, but it was to the point I was crying while eating them. I just wanted that feeling to go away.
