My dad has been flint knapping my whole life. I have always known people that do this in ny life. It's wild to think that it isn't something 'many people do' when I know tons.. I also have flint knoped myself before ❤
It's also extremely cool that I can co-experience your fascination from across the globe. The early humans and hominids, for whom these obsidian blades were a prized every-day-carry tool, never could've imagined the internet and social media. They didn't even know what the entire Earth was like. We can now take the heart of a recently dead person and put it into a living person and allow them to live for years longer with a stranger's heart pumping their blood. We would be considered gods by these ancient people.
It blows me away that someone can be so precise with something so brittle as stone. I know time makes you an expert, but as a layman, holy hell it's glorious to watch this unfold.
@@cHAOs9 I know. In Mexico they still use it today. Especially the indigenous people from the mountains of Mexico. I have seen them in peoples homes when visiting family there.
sharp, no pain the sharpest scalpels for surgeons are made from obsidian this is a slicing knife someone with sliced across the belly with that they would be walking in their own intestines before they even knew they got cut
@@PapersPlease-p8m no, the opposite. clean cuts dont cause much pain. i sliced all the way down my thumb with a fresh razor blade and never even felt pain until days imto the healing process
@@jahjoekaYou trippin. His joke was immaculate. Minecraft portrays obsidian as a really durable block, then we get this dude who proceeds to make obsidian look more fragile than glass.
No because it is not a blade. I dare this guy to make a sword with this outdated rock. By Bolo Machete, made from cold steel would chop it in half first clash.... Or give me an axe heck even a chisel and 5 mins with a bench grinder. Total destruction
Agreed! Even the pieces can cause problems. In the UK enthusiasts get involved in flintknapping, but they do it above a tarpaulin so what you predict doesn't happen.
Wow, I remember the good ol’ days where you needed a diamond pickaxe to mine this. Now you can use cobblestone. Just bare cobblestone. What a good miner.
@@Valentina-time It's not just sharp! It's molecular sharp! The edge of a broken shard of Obsidian glass can be as thin as a molecule, and while it's fragile, it can cut alarmingly easily. Also it comes from volcanoes so that's pretty awesome.
You and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals so let’s do it like they do on the discovery channel 🎶 (Sorry it’s the only place I know the discovery channel from)
It must have sucked to accidentally become the first guy to learn that a seemingly innocuous rock can cut through your foot like a knife through water. 😂
had an uncle slice his foot swimming in a river real nasty cut surprisingly very very little scarring though I was told as a kid, when first shown obsidian chipping, that he probably encountered obsidian and was very lucky no one knew at the time what it was but the scarring it left was so so different to anything else I think obsidian’s sharpness has been a lesson learned many times over by humans been a lot of ‘first guys’
@@cav1086That’s due to obsidian being able to achieve such a fine edge that it can go between cells. Fewer damaged cells, less repair to be done! It’s so clean a cut that certain scalpels are made from obsidian!
Yea for real. But it won't take long and some "Karen" will get on here saying videos like these are inappropriate and criminal cuz it's teaching kids how to make weapons. And RU-vid will go back to their drawing board and put out more rules to ban educational videos like these and demonetize content creators from making these cool ass videos.
Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.😊
"That's very cool." “But as it is volcanic glass, it’s very fragile, you see, and isn’t well-suited for use as a weap-” And then I hit him with the bat.
Doing that first part without gloves is crazy. I did some work making needles out of obsidian and even with gloves, I had an incident of obsidian shards getting implanted into my skin
@@ladyfame1430 Ofc! THEYRE incredibly sharp! I think one of the sharpest substances because they’re able to get to such a fine point. Fun to work with though
I remember taking a rock from a national park when I was younger and not thinking it was bad and the rangers stopped everyone and searched their bags looking for that one rock, it broke in my bag and we got fined a lot of money lol. I still want it :(
Exactly. Kurambit are knives that relying on hooking in and using leverage-based techniques. I'm not sure this one would last long for an Escrimador...
I’d brandish my obsidian karambit at them and they’d be compelled to approach. “That’s so pretty,” they’d say, confident in their superior strength and endurance from all the rocks they carry around at all times. They’d shower me with very interesting facts about obsidian and hover just out of range of the cutting edge, waiting for me to exhaust myself. “But as it is volcanic glass, it’s very fragile, you see, and isn’t well-suited for use as a weap-”
When I was young, a friend of mine had a big piece of obsidian that we played around with one time. Thought nothing of it, it was hot outside and after the obsidian my hands started to sweat causing them to sting all over. Just handling the obsidian covered my hands in hundreds of microscopic cuts and it felt like they were on fire. Watching him touch the obsidian throughout this video made me feel that fire again. Weird how the brain works.
There are obsidian scalpels in modern day surgery. They're used if you don't want scars to form, as they don't do much tissue damage while cutting. Insanely good material for knives
similar reason as to why you always want your knifes sharp! A cut from a dull knife is blunt and can leave scarring, a cut from a sharp knife is clean and heals much better.. ironic that the only scar I have on my leg is from a very sharp object while another wound right next to it from a blunt cut healed to invisibility😅
I thought those scalpels weren’t approved for human use in the US as there’s a chance they leave small glass fragments behind while making an incision which can cause complications in the healing process
