It reminded me of meeting Sovereign in Mass Effect

Despite him coming from nowhere, just with this speech I still think that Nekron is a better villain than Kuja. Nekron makes me think of The Darkness from the intro in Phantasy Star 2. But we never get to fight demons like that in Phantasy Star 2, the only demons we fight in that game are both creations of humans and humans themselves. When you realize they destroyed the planet Palm on a whim and they where about to do the same to Algo due to failure of the systems controlled by the Mother Brain. But in Phantasy Star 3 Rolf's descendant fought and destroyed The Darkness, the embodiment of evil and hatred that always comes back because of the evil commited by humans and other conscious entities...

Even when they stand before death, before a being that can end everything the game lead up to. Zidane fought for everything he had and cared about, and in the end it would all have been destroyed. No way he was going to let that happen. People failed to see the strenght of this fight. A seemingly impossible fight against a being that is so powerful it feels like you cant win. Zidanes will to live was so strong that he could win this ultimate fight. Necron was not the villain, but he was the final boss.

Considering the core theme of the game is about death and mortality, having the final boss be a physical manifestation of death and mortality as seen through Kuja's despair-riddled lens, a manifestation created by Kuja attempted a universal murder-suicide no less, is thematically appropriate.

Necron is the manifestation of the ultimate conclusion that the struggle of life is for naught because death will always come. The characters of this game struggle with the idea of mortality-especially Kuja, which led him to his end game rampage. The party defeats Necron because they reject the all too reasonable conclusion that oblivion is a preferable alternative to the inevitability. Their struggles helped them realize that life is its own purpose. Not even Necron can defeat that.

also, how could anyone in the ff9 universe possibly know that necron exists. its beyond human comprehension and doesnt need a back story. it just exists.

Very very late reply here but I definitely saw Garland as the villain of ffix. That guy was the cause of a lot of problems.

Too bad Necron had absolutely no real setup at all. Otherwise, he could have potentially been one of the most badass final bosses in Final Fantasy.

@@woundedkarma We might get a remake soon... If they don't fiddle with the plot as in FFVII, there is a chance of getting a better setup :)

Hard to find a better compliment! Totally agree! This metal version is fire and pretty similar to DT style. True that most of Uematsu themes (specially the final Boss ones) are pure progressive dinamite 💪🤟

I beg to differ. Supernova just takes out most of each character's health while sometimes inflicting Slow, Silence, and Confuse on your party. But Grand Cross can inflict Berserk, Doom, Petrify, Stop, Freeze, Heat, Confuse, Poison, Trouble, Silence, Zombie, Darkness, Instant Death, Mini, and Sleep, as well as possibly drop a character's HP to anywhere from 1 to 10. And each one has a different chance of occuring, meaning you can be afflicted with multiple debilitating status effects at once. Such as Zombie and Instant Death or even Confuse, Trouble, Silence, Zombie, Mini, Sleep, and Petrify if you're really unlucky.

Zombie is terrifying. If your character inflicted with it K.O.s, they still keep the effect. So you can't even use a Phoenix down on them.

@@GielSalamour i have to disagree though, necron would, imo, dominate the others since he is a " god-like being" or an "deity" and as implied in the final quote, he is "eternal" as long as there is "life". The others are just individuals.

@@vuanhtuan3983 That may be true, but Necron was bested by mortals just the same as the others. Let's not forget that Sephiroth also cant really be killed. He is merged with the life stream so as long as the life stream exists so will he. Also, Sephiroth can transport folks to other dimensions such as when he uses Supernova, the others cant do that.

@@GielSalamour Grand Cross does similar stuff and Sephiroth was bested by mortals as well. Necron and Sephiroth would annihilate each other because Necron would wipe out the lifestream killing Sephiroth in the process and due to life not existing he would wipe out himself.

Omega Sans a good theory, but there is an explanation of what Necron is. He is, essentially, the god of oblivion that is awoken by Kuja destroying the crystal and when you beat him you just force him back to sleep

I just looked it up. Kuja didnt actually destroy the crystal. Necron saw Kuja trying to destroy the crystal and concluded that all life desired death and oblivion...so Necron wanted to destroy the crystal. YOu beat him and force him back to slumber, and thus the crystal is saved. Necron is, much like I said, the incarnation of death

I think Necron is the spiritual form of the Iifa tree. In Disc 3, Garland tells us that we only killed its physical form and when you defeat Necron, the Iifa tree freaks out and blows up. Coincidence? I think not...

That's why it was always best to equip every status effect null ability you had up to that point and hope you had enough remedies for the rest lol
