Cara Gregory (Specialist Occupational Therapist) talks to Mark Guyers (Assistant Psychologist) about her role as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS Community Pain Service (Southport & Formby). She talks about the importance of exploring what is meaningful to the patient, as well as the use of traditional strategies eg pacing in relation to activities of daily living, and when to use aids around the home. Cara reflects on working in a multidisciplinary team and the value of this for herself and her patients. She talks about how she aims to take a curious stance with people, to explore their expertise and hopes for themselves, in line with a ‘solution focused approach’. Mark talks further about solution focused approaches, and viewing people as experts in their lives. Cara talks about self soothing and wellbeing.
