They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree but Dave and Kyle prove that incorrect. Kyle is like "wrap the handle, pour water on it and let's go now now now!" and Dave's like "Hey waffles!"
PLEASE do this again. I would honestly like to see the chevy team be put in the rivian, and the cybertruck team be put in the lightning. Or swap the slowest crew with the fastest timed crew and flip 2nd and 3rd just to see how everyone manages. This was super entertaining these videos have been the highlight of my past 3 weekends. Good job everyone and onto the next one!
@@TheBowerbirdthat is why you give Kyle the lightning and team lightning the silverado. Most races Kyle stacks it in his favor. He only had the cyber truck because he just baught it . Normally he would have taken the silverodo. The 1st race to Vegas he gets a Porsche taycan and beats 2 teslas x and 3. The Mach e is like the lightning it doesn’t have the charging speed to keep up with the 200kw cars and trucks. Maybe a race with identical cars would be nice then it would be about the driver. Or a non Tesla race. So we don’t have to hear from Kyle drew is just going to plug in and it works or drew is such a great driver. I like drew he is a good guy but not invincible. He had supercharger problems too and came in 4th in race to Vegas 1. He overcame having to start later . I loved the Porsche and ionic 5 finishing 1 and 2.
@@markfitzpatrick6692 I would have put him in the Rivian - solidly in the center, but his use of the Cybertruck was brilliant given Tesla's charging limitations at their superchargers!
Dang! I was really on team Food-150 to win. But as soon as dave and the guys put on the burger king hats, having a jolly ol time. ngl i started having doubts😂. Watching Dave ramble on to the point where he's edited out mid conversation was hilarious. If there's any team i would travel with, it would be team lightning for the food stops Congrats to all the guys for making it safe and sound!
I refreshed your channel so many times to see when this video is released. Then I randomly see it in my feed less than a min when it was released. It didn't even have part 3 in the title! Thanks can't wait to see the results.
I really enjoy watching the Silverado, Cybertruck, and Rivian teams rushing to optimize their charging and then the Lightning crew just enjoying themselves. 😂
Brilliant, It's 3.30am in the UK and I just had to watch to the end. Way better than most of what Hollywood can offer. Well done the gang, all of you, true real life acting. 👍👍
Yeah that's just one of the joke deals in this whole thing another one is $285 mi range for 120 bucks and paying $50 to go 85 mi That's why I say they should tell the truth about their EVs they're expensive to buy expensive to drive and someone said well you don't need to drive one well yes the government's forcing them down our throat people better stop lying and wake up
yeah, they were basically tied until the end, if the Cybertruck had enough power, it would have been so close, they basically were even with barely a 5 minute lead, good job to both teams that give it their all
The Silverado EV was the best truck by far - insane battery size, crazy 300 kW charge speeds & it had 4 adults onboard the whole way, not to mention it was the only truck with an open bed the whole journey. The only reason the CT even held on was from Kyle's determination and using every trick in the book to maximize charging speeds on V3, arriving on empty, wet rags on charging handle & more controversially blocking a charger to not power share.
Just finished a 2500km drive in the Tesla MY LR 2023 through 5 countries in Europe and it was awesome! Binge watching all your Videos while doing some kind of a race myself :) Thanks Guys!
I am amazed by how close this race was among the three trucks going coast to coast. Impressed by all teams that is not an easy trip to take. I like to see how long each truck took to charge for the trip. That is probably the difference in the race.
yeah the Silverado and Cybertruck were basically tied until the end, if the Cybertruck had enough power, this would have been a different story, it's crazy they were basically even with just a 5 minute lead
People who block charging spaces to protect charging speed are the same people that complain about ICE vehicles parking in charging spaces. Superchargeholes.
It's really interesting to see how tired everyone sounds in comparison to the earlier episodes. Apart from your dad, who appears to have some sort of Tony Stark personal reactor.
One of the best ever EV road trip videos from you guys and also on the whole of RU-vid! What an amazing bunch of people! Would love to hang out with you all some day...
The Cooling rag on the cable, I can only imagine thats a sensor on the charger that is being hoodwinked at some level, have to wonder if this is abusing the condition of the battery by giving it more charge than it actually wants at the temp is it as, compared to the temp it believes its at with the rag artificially cooling it.
That seems unlikely; the battery is a long way from where they were cooling things down with the rag. The cars have bunches of temp sensors in the battery packs themselves and are more than capable of asking the charger to slow down if things aren't going well.
You should make a south to north route, so to the north most point in Alaska from the south most point in Florida in winter, to see how cold weather performance looks like. Best with pulling a camper trailer, so you can sleep in it :)
I really like this channel, but please, Kyle, lets demonstrate some better behaviour at charging stations. They are there for everyone, not just for you to win a contest by blocking charging stalls. The goal of this channel is to promote EVs, please set a better example! Winning can't be so important to you that you throw everything else to the side. Otherwise, love the channel!
I agree. I lost a lot of respect for Kyle and this channel due to the behaviour at chargers and some dangerous driving. Wrapping the charging cables seems highly questionable as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fan and love the content overall, but please do better.
Fantastic video! I would choose the Silverado for my truck, I would choose the Lightning for the company, I would choose the Rivian just for the looks, I would choose the CT for road trips and easy to use.
I love Kyle's passion and enthusiasm. Without him this wouldn't have gotten done. With that said, his youthful impatience cost his team. They should have stayed at just about every stop until the Cybertruck dropped, at minimum, below180kw or so. The time lost getting off and back on when added all together is a lot longer than if they had stayed to said deeper charging points. Unless I'm mistaken, did they not unplug on one stop as soon as it went below 240kw? In fact, that would make for a FANTASTIC VIDEO: Two Cybertrucks racing one another: -- One with TEAM KYLE and his youthful impatience (or in his eyes: optimized charging). --And the other with TEAM DAVE and his laid-back wisdom with deeper charges (and of course, his restaurant tour). Quick, someone bring that up to Kyle.
I think it didn't matter until the last stretch, yeah they should have stayed a bit longer, then it would have been a different story, it's crazy that they were basically tied until the end with a 5 minute lead difference
Race Interstate 35 next…. Laredo Texas to Duluth Minnesota or vice versa…. Definitely would be challenging charger network wise as well as traffic wise in areas
Just my opinion but blocking spots or wrapping charger cords so it looks like a charger is down is cheating/wrong. Otherwise; very enjoyable competition.
1:33:00 With the vehicle icing the EA charger, what you do is pull up right behind them and plug in! Try to leave space by parking sideways to let some traffic thru the lane if you can, but just block those suckers right in and start charging.
Truly great fun to follow the race , who would believe it , only literally 5 mins between 1st and 2nd place , after over 2000 miles . The Cybertruck had the advantage , of the Supercharger network , Kyle and aero efficiency. While the Silverado had no tonna cover , plus a extra passenger , yet still won , while starting last , but at the end of the day it didnt matter much . To the excellence of the Rivian , if it had set at a lower ride height it may have won the competition outright , thats amazing against the Silverado. So really like a guy pointed out , the difference between the trucks is so little , just pick the one you like. The F150 was 300 miles behind , as a slower charging machine.
yeah the Silverado and Cybertruck were basically tied, it's crazy that it came down to just 5 minutes, everything basically evened out, good job to all the teams
Take a drink everytime Team Kyle blows through a stop sign. C’mon guys, it’s really pointless doing this if you’re racing around and the others are more balanced.
The cyber beast was the fun choice in case you have to run a quarter mile pulling a Porsche, but for the races you are actually doing it looks like the dual motor long range would’ve been better.
THANKS KYLE, i've been impatiently awaiting this 3rd part. dang i love this, love everything OUT OF SPEC, best of luck, nothing but good will for you, safe dc motoring :)
Epic, being who I am, the Lightening did well. The more videos I watch the happier I am with my Lightening work truck and personal Mach E. I am NOT a first adopter 😅. 2 Days to traverse America on I10, awesome!
I 🥰 LOVED 🥰 this series. I don’t even drive an EV and watching you all push these vehicles to the limit made it so fun. I couldn’t watch everything at one time but I would pause it and come back to it where I left off. It needs to be a TV serious. I told all my friends about this race like it was going on right now. These companies should sponsor this race because I have always been a Chevy guy, I don’t like Tesla, and I was thrilled when Chevy one. I now want to buy one. I tow a 5wheel RV so I don’t know. However this race has just sold some Chevy for sure. As a truck guy who pulls with my truck now wants to see this race again. All trucks get a U-Haul trailer, 1,000lbs each full of center blocks. Easy to west, the mountain going to San Diego gives it extra thrills. All of us now this trip knows of them hills. Maybe next time do Miami to Denver Colorado in the winter. Uphill and snow. Or maybe New York Anyway great race. I loved it. I didn’t miss a minute
I'd like to see a version of this where you have to use the in-car navigation instructions, including charge stops. And no sneaky tricks like wrapped handles, jumping curbs, blocking parking spaces, or anything. That would be a more realistic representation of what normal people would experience, assuming they're not jerks.
I’d be interested to see if going a fraction slower was actually faster as less time charging. Bjørn has tested this and found fastest is not necessarily best, owing to increased consumption and charge time.
I absolutely love these kinds or races. I would LOVE to watch you guys go back hauling trailers. I am a Huge Chevy and RV person. It would be fun to see you all pull trailers while doing this. Use a normal F-150 for a control, and for the gas guys handicap, they only have 1 driver. Therefore they will need to stop and sleep.
I only now realized that the triangle charge indicator on the cyber truck's charge port is a cyber truck...I thought it was just a triangle and I was like "huh, that's weird, why didn't they use the tesla T there"
All you guys, even Kyle made a great and interesting video. Get some needed sleep 😴. Also nice to see a wide range of channels working together and Worldwide participation.
Hello Guys , amazing adventure. I would like so much to be part of it. But thanks to you , and your ongoing videos, I could enjoy. All of you are such great folks, nice persons to be around. Now after this marathon trylogy , I feel you like being my personal friends. Lot of admiration for you father, such a tough guy, Kyle !
I watched all 3 and the frustration is insane on this trip with the charging…but honestly the Kyle guy is a major control freak holy cow… barely able to watch because of the way he talked to people
40 hours is really impressive. What i am really interested in seeing is that road trip with an EV and its petrol counterpart like a a Tycan and a 911 or this Silverado and a diesel one. I think it might be way closer than people think.
I doubt that. Assuming the same rules of engagement (speed limits and routing), you're using an ICE in its most efficient use case and the EV at its least. You can replenish an ICE so much faster, and it's going to have more range.
@@GregoryVeizades I get what you’re saying on a relatively short distance like a 500 to a 1000 mile drive in that same format sure the gas cars will pull ahead by 1 to 2 hours cause it’s a Goldilocks zone for gas cars . but here is what i am curious about. As the distance gets greater like the i 40 coast to coast race Kyle is talking about the human factor well step in especially if it’s only 2 people in each car or one designated driver and the other passenger/passengers are cameramen/observers/planners. They would have to sleep, stretch their legs, eat, go to the bathroom. Another factor is most races of these types i have seen are either between EVs exclusively or an EV like a tesla and another gas sedan from another car make like a Toyota or Hyundai which are economical cars. I am interested in seeing sports cars or trucks put against their EV counterparts from the same make cause they aren’t that economical by design. I am not presuming EVs are gonna win but i am interested in seeing how close it’s gonna be or if it would be really far off. I.e. would the gap curve flatten and would they still end up with a couple of hours gap or is it linear and would they end up with 10 hours gap or sth ?
Wow! Only 40 hours? That's very impressive! If I drove my gas car, I wouldn't be there for about 47 hours, if I averaged 55 MPH. I'd cruise at 60, and with stops the average would likely sit around 55. But if it wasn't a race, I'd be on the side roads cruising at 55, averaging around 50 MPH.
While it was entertaining and informative, I think many of us would rather see a more realistic test using driving and charging practices that normal people are more likely to do. 1) route plan with no less than 10% state of charge on arrival. 2) No tricking the charging cable temperature sensors with wet towels. 3) Obey traffic laws, ie no intentional speeding or running stop signs. The Rivian had something like 40k miles on the odometer, while the rest of the trucks were all nearly new. Would be a more accurate test if all the trucks all had similar overall mileage/battery degradation. Regardless, It was great overall. Thanks for all of your efforts!
Me in my 2017 Bolt listening to them complain about 100+ kw charging while I've never gotten above 40 for more than a couple minutes. Still did good going from Denver to Des Moines, only had to hypermile it in one part and it was years ago so maybe that hole has been filled.
Yeah my 2023 I just got is usually 40 something I think I saw 55 once. But I haven’t fast charged much at all. If it could charge fast it would be an amazing road tripper for a couple or single person
Great videos! Very informative and entertaining. Thanks for this master class on EV road tripping. A great tour of the southern tier/I-10 corridor. … I’m sure Buc-cee’s appreciates all the free advertising on OOS/OOS Dave.
