The GREATEST show I've seen in my 70 years , between guys on the stage...how they know their craft...enjoy their craft..and exploit their craft to this magnificent performance. WOW.
This is what music is all about. Just 4 guys working the magic. The skill and musicianship is off the charts here. Makes popular music pale in comparison. Young musicians take note please.
This gives me CHILLS !! I'm a drummer but I could watch and listen to this PIANO player ALL DAY LONG. Why ? Cause he's the real deal. If you're a 7 yr old up and coming piano player, WATCH every move this guy makes. Study his technique, watch his inflections, watch how he plays the crowd. There's literally a hundred things you can learn here. This film clip should be part of the Berklee College music program and should be seen everyday. This guy plays GREAT !!
+rstone7727 The real tragedy is that club owners and audiences only want the predictable sure-thing, these days. Even if a new band came along with the talent of Pablo Cruise, Sea Level, or Steely Dan, no one would give them a chance. If all they want is a dj or tribute bands, that's all they'll get.
I saw Pablo Cruise open for Little Feat [with Lowell George and the first time I had ever seen a wireless mic]. They had a 12 foot White Baldwin Concert Grand Piano. Ocean Breeze seemed to go on forever. It still brings tears to my eyes. I was sitting in Row 11 on the aisle with my girlfriend, Anj, at The 69th Street Tower Theater in Philadelphia. It was 1977. Awesome.
I remember having all their albums from the 70’s on 8-track in my VW bug in high school 1977-1979….shocked to find the band is still together with all but I think one of the original members…..amazing.
@@1boboloco1 …I first had a ‘67 Beetle in High School…rolled it in 1977….then got a ‘74 Super Beetle…drove it until junior year of college in 1983 when I got a 1980 Audi 4000 5+5 …
This has to be one of the best pieces of music I have ever listen to. WOW! Can you imagine being there in concert with a great sound system? Incredible!
Saw them in concert in a small venue in 1976. They tore down the house, very good musicians. Santa Cruz ; they were really big in Hawaii in 1975 so got a bundle of friends together and we all enjoyed it. Great band/music
I saw them play a little bar in Gainesville, FL called the Island. They didn't play Ocean Breeze. But, yes, they are so good and if this piece of music doesn't move you then you're already dead and don't know it. I played it when we spread my ex husbands ashes into the ocean and they will do it again when I die❣️
Fell in love with Ocean Breeze the very first time I heard it. That was way back when you guys were brand new to the music scene. I still love it today. It always soothes my trouble away and makes me feel peaceful and happy. Loved seeing you live when you were in Washington, somewhere in the Tri-City area. I'll never forget it.
i saw them at the solano county fair, I'll see these guys any day of the week. I highly recommend u see these guys they're great. You won't be sitting, you'll be dancing even if you don't know how. Shake your booty any old way.
I was lucky enough to see them three times in the South Bay/Santa Cruz area. Incredible concerts never to be forgotten. Still great in 2020. Thanks guys.
One of the best things my dad did for me was introduce me to Pablo Cruise when I was very young, and their debut album !!! I've been listening to Ocean Breeze since 1975 ! Amazing song, by a much overlooked and amazingly talented band. Forget about the modern day pop/ rap (Crap) musical acts of today !!!! (HIGHLY Questionable to call those losers musicians) They couldn't hold a candle to these guys , even on a well lit stage !!! GREAT POST by Mr. Marc Blake THANK YOU !!!! Especially thank you for reminding us of when studio musicians were not just found in the studios (or Jazz Festivals ) , but actually were main LIVE rock n roll band acts on Main Stages !!! GOD BLESS THOSE DAYS !!!
HOLY CRAP. My fav song from PC. Never thought to look up the band here on youtube. Always had another band in mind. Then tonight, in a drunken stuper, searched out PC, and found this gem. Cant believe its been on here for a year now. This is one of the, if not my best finds ever. And I agree with gaspo, the piano technique is bar none. Nobody does it better. What a great band and a great song. Big thanks to Marc fer posting this. I am going to have to record this to a hard drive before it is no longer here, because, as you know, the best songs always get taken down fer one reason or another.
I'm with royboy 56100, my favorite song, instrumental or otherwise. I subjected my kids to it growing up and continue to play it loud and proud even as an "older" man. Saw these guys at a county fair venue when their stage time was fairly limited, so a long song like "Ocean Breeze" was not on the set list. However, I virtually begged them to play it at the pre-set meet and greet and they complied. What a treat! Heard my second favorite, "Zero to Sixty in Five" as well. What a day!
Pablo Cruise is known for their "Pop" hits, but their greatest music is their instrumental pieces like Ocean Breeze, Zero to Sixty in Five, & El Verano. All masterpieces by one of the most talented 4-piece rock bands ever. Great live performers as well!
What raw talent, sheer heaven created by masters of their craft....human soul expressed through music for all of us to connect with. Such a privilege to have grown up with this band playing in all the venues near my home in the SF Bay Area!
Pure magic. Bought my first P.C. album in 79 for Part of the Game, been on board since. I hate that I took the epic talent of this group for granted back then. Today's music is not a fraction of what these guys are. Phenomenal musicians, each of them. The jam beginning @ 6:15 just may be the finest 3 minutes of music that I've ever heard.
In a word...MASTERPIECE! I play piano, but my friend came in second in the world years ago at an international competition and he described Cory's playing as pretty incredible!
Back in the 70s, Pablo Cruise were radio gods. You heard them all day, every day. But one thing you would never, ever hear on the radio was this song. And it's just stunning to see them here, all these years later, tearing it UP. Such a good band. You guys were the soundtrack to my childhood, my adolescence, and now my senescence. A lifetime of great music. Thank you. :)
WOW! I searched for A Place In The Sun grew up with that song many memories. I found it the other night and then seen this. I am in AWE, Play On Pablo Cruise. AMAZING Thank You for many years of growing up with your music and hearing this now. What the Hell Man !!! CHEERS!!!
Beautiful Pearl White Grand Piano, Ocean Breeze, Rio, 0-60 in 5... I won't be able to make it today because I'm at the bottom of the pool... Del Mar Fairgrounds, CA 1979, 1980...Always an amazing show.
Pablo Cruise is such a great band. I have liked their music since the 1970s, and I have seen them in concert in my local area many times over the years. I can't wait until the next time they come to my area. :)
If I'm not mistaken, that peformance was done on a real, hammer and string grand piano. Absolutely flawless talent. He could play any of the works of the great classical masters.
My sister saw Pablo Cruise back in the late 70's when we lived in Davis CA. I wish I would have gone. Ocean Breeze has been one of my favorites for the past 40 years. The piano player is major kick-ass and I'd guess classically trained.
My first concert w/o parental supervision with just my girlfriends we saw Pablo Cruise, the Steve Miller Band and The Eagles outdoors at old Met Stadium (where the Mall of America now stands) in Minnesota, I was maybe 15! It poured rain, but that remains one of the best concerts that I've ever attended! I only had eyes for boys of Pablo Cruise--this brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks for posting this Marc!
This song has meant soooo much to me for over 40yrs. It incompassed my feelings that ranges from hope, love, & sorrow. The amazing piano playing goes through those stages . As the band joins in, it is accompanied by the beautiful vocals. Thank you Pablo Cruz for writing :"Ocean Breeze"
Back before most of you were born, there was a radio station in Charlotte, NC called WRPL ("Ripple", aka "Radio with Balls"). They played the Pablo song "Island Woman" one day and I bought the album immediately. At the end of Side B was this song...."Ocean Breeze". It blew my mind. It blew everyone's mind who I've ever played it for. It wins my personal award for 1) Best Piano 2) Best Guitar Solo 3) Best Vocals and 4) Best Drums. Kind of amazing bass as well. I was in a bar/restaurant last year in the NC mountains. Plan was to eat dinner and leave but they had this amazing (and expensive) juke box that had almost unlimited variety. Even though it was in the middle of nowhere, there was a guy there who pumped a $5 bill in and played Jason Isbell and Drive by Truckers. I gave him a thumbs up and then pumped in $5 an played more Jason Isbell and DBT. Then he pumped in $5 played some Hendrix stuff. The I pumped in $5 and played some Cream and Derrick and the Dominoes. We kept giving each other thumbs up (and I'm sure the bar owner did too given how much money we were spending). Finally, I found THIS song. It was a noisy bar but when the guitar solo started, it got quiet. Then that beautiful vocal part that brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it started and I could see people visibly tuning in. My new found friend came over and said "who was THAT?". He had never heard of them.
Pablo Cruise was one of the bands I thought had a good album (their third) as a senior in high school around 1977. Then in 1978 I had the chance to see them live at a concert as part of a college homecoming. I had never heard this song before that. WOW. Impressive to hear it live, even more impressive to see Cory Lerios play it live. Definitely rates as one of the best live concert moments in my life. Still a fan after all these years.
OMG !!! It wasn't the first concert I went to, but yes I was there at the old Met stadium as well !!! It was an incredible show !!! And I do remember it raining and hard !!!! My girlfriend and I were trying to get back up to our seats under the second deck when it poured on us!!!! My best friend in high school (Seymour) was in the first row with a broken leg! He is a carbon copy of the piano player both ;looks & mannerisms!!! I've seen Pablo cruse since in Napa at the old town theater a fantastic performance! I'm glad they are back out playing again, because of the Mexican dirt weed back then I didn't remember how good their music is !!!!
Pretty clear, people don't understand what awesome musicians these guys are. I raised my kids dancing to their music. Just so fun. Thanks, Pablo. I have gone to "Rio" so many times you wouldn't believe. Thanx guys, you made our life more fun.
Saw these guys live once in the early 80s, then saw them again in 2018 and they were just as good as they had been 35 years earlier! They've still got it!
In my humble opinion, the best all time instrumental of all time!!Majestic and monumental at the same time, conjuring such imagery!!On PBS in 78(?),they rocked solid!!
I saw Pablo Cruise at San Jose Dtate in 1973.I've played this 20 minute song on the L.P.thousands of times all these years. It is my favoritesong of all my adult life.
I'm getting older and have seen alot of musical performances, but if I had to choose only one to listen to and watch, and this choice would be final and solitary, bar none, this would be my choice. None compare!
On the original album Ocean Breeze was over 14 minutes. Back in the days of turntables and vinyl. The local DJ at KSFM in Woodland, California used to love getting it requested. Plenty of time to get a snack and quick trip to the bathroom.
I saw these superb musicians play the St. Peter's Celebration last night near St. Louis. It was phenomenal! They just keep getting better. What a great evening!
This song saved my strength when I was young so I could overcome a very difficult self made situation. I'm eternity grateful. It is a blessing from God and beauty of this music.
A vastly underrated and unjustly forgotten band from the high water mark of prog rock in the early 70's. It's so nice being able to go back and explore their work fully.
robert glenn Actually, credit must be given to the late Bud Cockrell who was the original bassist who wrote and played the bass parts in all these classic songs. Anyone who came later is basically playing it the way Bud wrote it. One of the truly great bands ever.
Bud Cockrell was an iinteresting guy. Rafted on the Sac River in CA with him in '77 . Very funny with tales of working at A&M Records. Helluva bass player. RIP ,Bud.
Thx for posting this. What a great perfomance of this tune. Got to be in my top ten...! Saw them a few years ago at a street fair & one time at Oakland's Paramount Theater. They really shined that night. D Jenkins was strutting about the aisles while playing the solo to this song...Great Band!!!
