One correction. None of them are down any money. The deal was if they won The Night Fox would pay their debt to Benedict in full. So the crew essentially kept the money they got from the Benedict job in the first movie. Well except for Rusty who is in the hole due to his hotels.

12:20 - "What if she's the Night Fox?" - Coincidentally, Catherine Zeta Jones starred with Sean Connery in a 1999 heist film, Entrapment, which is definitely reaction-worthy after you finish the Ocean's trilogy.

I did enjoy that movie when it came out, but I kinda felt like it wasn't quite up to what I'd anticipated, given the pedigree of the leading couple.. My girlfriend used to joke the movie didn't do that well at the box office was because, as she put it, the movie "starred Sean Connery and Katherine Zeta-Jones' ass"...😜! Still, I liked it, and as you say it's definitely a good reaction choice. Just a couple quick footnotes for TBR & S, when we see czj for the first time after the flashback at the beginning, she was at her mother's funeral, where she turned and looked towards Rusty; also I don't have the movie to reference right now, but if I recall, TNF (who's definitely IS the better thief, as far as skill and technique goes, especially working alone, but his ego, and total lack of cohorts who can really make the difference in a pinch, work against him) tells Danny & Tess that he'll "pay their debt to Benedict", which I always assumed to mean he paid their WHOLE debt, meaning they could all keep whatever they had left from the original theft... I might be wrong in that regard, but it's what I've always thought happened... Lastly, if you listen to their various conversations during the flashbacks to the Naples train station scene, you can almost piece it together; there's a lot of hidden clues in what they say... And lastly, KZJ is just freakin' GORGEOUS in this movie, IMO, and the 'Lost in Translation' scene (another GREAT movie for them to watch!) is just fantastic... Oh, and P.S., does anyone remember 'The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover'...? Disturbingly good movie, with emphasis on the disturbing...and extra emphasis on the good part, too. I feel like no one talks about that movie anymore, but it IS reaaaally good.

I apologize, my reply was only supposed to be regarding 'Entrapment', I just wrote the rest following it, intending to copy/paste it as it's own comment at the top! It's like 5am and I'm totally wired on ice coffee, having an avoidance reaction to a work project I really should be doing, so I'm a little fuzzy on the edges... Fwiw, I hope you enjoy my rambling caffeine-induced rant about Ocean's 12... Cheers!

First time I saw this movie I didn't love how it seemed like the guys were failing the whole time. @@PaperbackWizard I don't think 13 did anything wrong for doing that. I always saw it as a return to form, while 12 was the excursion in between. I like 12, but enjoy 13 more because of how it's all one big elaborate scheme that we watch throughout, just like 11.

@@ryangreene2159 What's so holy about a "return to form"? Star Wars "returned to form" in Return of the Jedi when they blew up another Death Star, and they've been mocked for it ever since. Sequels are supposed to be about finding *new* things to do with the characters. And Twelve was "one story", too. It was "How did Benedict find us, and how do we pay him off?" I've never understood what was so hard about following the plot of this movie. It's pretty straightforward.

Steven Soderbergh took $50 million of Warner Bros. money and made an experimental heist film. Bernie Mac was in jail for most of the film because he was only available for a few days due to filming The Bernie Mac Show. I love all the non-verbal conversations between characters, especially Danny and Rusty. Julia Roberts married Danny Moder, a cinematographer, in 2002. Julia was pregnant while filming. The film was scheduled to be released in November 2004 when she would be 8 months pregnant as she gave birth in December. So that's why she had to have a fake baby while actually pregnant. Catherine Zeta Jone actually fell out of her chair during poker and Soderberg kept it. Tess helping made it Ocean's 12. The meet LeMarc (Albert Finney was uncredited) at George Clooney's house in Lake Como, Italy. The cast stayed at his house during filming.

Fun fact for those not familiar with Amsterdam: All of the old gable houses in the original center of the city, are built on pier posts that were driven into the sea floor, and often need to be replaced with age. If you walk along the canals, you'll notice some of them have wooden braces placed against the fronts of them, because the pier posts become weak, and the houses begin to lean! That's why they came up with the idea of raising the house, because it's actually very easy to do - if you know what you're doing.

One of the many things I love about this movie is this entire movie is the Ocean’s crew tricking Nite Fox into paying their debt to Benedict (as payback for ratting them out)! They’re better than Nite Fox because they won. They’re all criminals. Cheaters by trade. This is the ultimate “Scoreboard !” And no. Ocean’s 11 are still millionaires. Nite Fox paid their debt. As well, every job they pull has cost. They spend money to make way more money.

They had to do something different with this film, to avoid being just a remake. I enjoy that they were ultimately putting one over on the Night Fox and showing that they were better was the true aim of the film. I'm sure that part of the reason that some characters weren't as involved is because their actors were only available for a limited time and they had to reduce their time on screen. It isn't that unusual, particularly if they did not have a contract past the first film since it wasn't intended to be a franchise at first.

As someone already said, they don't own Benedict any money anymore, the nightfox had to pay "their debt". And in general Benedict got his money replaced by the insurrance like he said in the beginning, so he was jut blackmailing them to have the money back without giving the insurrance money back. And as they didn't have to pay from their own savings (or what was left from the 11 heist,) they are at the same wealth as when the movie started.

The Night Fox told Danny that HE would pay back what they stole from Terry Benedict, if they managed to steal the egg...which they did. So the gang isn't broke, they still have all of what they didn't spend from the first movie's haul. NF is now $198 million poorer...not that he's hurting because of it. But I'd say his ego took another hit. My favorite part of this movie is Julia Roberts pretending to be herself. Sam clocked it WAY early, though she didn't know it. Neither did I, until Linus spoke about how the museum would reduce security for her because she looks like...and I thought, "No! They can't do that, that's insane!" But they did, and I love that they did. It's actually the reverse of a throwaway joke in the first movie, where a bunch of photographers are getting shots of the TV actors after their poker lesson, but Brad & George are ignored.

When it was released, this movie definitely was widely seen as a massive step down from the first film. I think it's because everyone expected your typical heist/caper film where the team is assembled, you work your way through the plan, a few hiccups along the way, but at the end the group still nabs their target. With Ocean's 12, I actually appreciated that they messed with that formula a bit, and we get to really see the group kinda have their backs against the wall every step of the way. Was it a bit too Hollywood meta for its own good? Maybe. Does it require a gigantic leap in logic? Absolutely. When you realize a good 3/4 is essentially a ruse, it does test whether or not you can accept the film/plan as a whole. But end of the day, I personally really love this movie because it's so unlike the other 2 films in the trilogy. The way it's shot with the old school truck-ins and a more saturated cinematography to go with the European flavor of the film really sets it apart. Not only that, but i just love the dialogue and banter between the characters. Considering at the time, Matt Damon was becoming somewhat of an action star with the Bourne movies, it was hilarious to see him play a character who's so hapless and confused by what's happening, despite his best efforts to assert himself as an alpha on a team. The movie really did feel like Clooney and co. just wanted to go to Europe for a paid vacation... and honestly, I didn't mind because as a viewer, I was having a great time watching lol.

Terrific reaction! _Thanks!_ I highly recommend *The Mexican* (2001), starring *Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts* and *James Gandolfini.* Truly delightful. *_I think you'll love it!_* AND *Spy Game* (2001) with *Brad Pitt* and *Robert Redford.* Additional recommendations: *_The Fisher King_* (1991) Directed by _Terry Gilliam,_ with _Robin Williams_ & _Jeff Bridges._ 🤠 The western *_Silverado_* (1985) is a *fun* western with a very young _Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Kline_ and more. Written and directed by *_Lawrence Kasdan.¹_* Another Western worth watching IMO is *The Quick and the Dead* (1995) starring _Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone_ and _Gene Hackman._ Be well! 🙋🏼‍♂️ ··•●✺●•·· ¹ ─ Co-writer of the _Star Wars_ films _The Empire Strikes Back_ (1980), _Return of the Jedi_ (1983), and _The Force Awakens_ (2015). He also co-wrote _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ (1981).

You guys are awesome. A lot of people don't really get this one. It took me a few watches to wrap my brain around it. I don't see it as a heist movie, but a con movie. We the audience are conned from the moment Danny makes the bet with the Fox. He tells Danny that it was shipped out that morning. They'd already gotten it. 🤯 Plus I love all the banter between everybody. Lol

A good hang out movie. It didn’t follow a Hollywood formula which is why it didn’t do so well during its release. But I personally think it’s the best outta the 3

@softscrub88 remember someone once describing it as Oceans 11 is a actors movie and Oceans 12 is a directors movie..

I was at first the movie I thought was ugh indulgent in having us see em enjoy the good posh Euro life and then realize you kind of need a lighter-toned luxury escape sometimes!

Ocean's team vs. Vincent Hannah, Al Pacino's character in _Heat_ (1995), transfered to the Interpol. Who wins?

Perhaps after watching Ocean's 13 you could watch the original 1960 version of Ocean's 11 starring Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
