Oceanside Fire Chief David Parsons gives update on pier fire 

Lots of 50 to 100 foot lengths attached together. The pumps on the engines can supply water and pressure to reach the fire. Also the pier has piping for the fire department to use and add pressure to it.

That is not what the fire chief is saying. They do not know the CURRENT structural condition of the pier, an engineer has not yet inspected. The fire is not yet fully contained and it would be unsafe to do any kind of evaluation until it's fully contained.

@velvetpixiecake5310 me personally ...when ruby's was open years ago I tried to visit and it was temporarily closed...had a sign posted saying " closed electrical issues ".

The boats used by the Oceanside Life Guards and USCG are multi-use vessels with firefighting equipment that's made for fighting small boat fires. They were easily outclassed by the scale of the pier fire. The small boat crews performed well and worked together to stop the spread of the fire and contain it to the end of the pier. I was on the water yesterday and the level of communication and cooperation over VHF 16 was impressive. Getting a large fire boat down from LA would have taken 4-6 hours and it wouldn't have arrived in time to make a meaningful difference to the outcome. Either way, the building was toast.

Correction Ruby's Diner wasn't in business, but the Kitchen and Restrooms were still being used by the neighboring food shack called the Brine Box, and there had been remodeling work going in in there as well. Somebody knows something and needs to come forward. Arson is being ruled out though. Still seems sus.overall.

Even under those circumstances, Fire sprinklers should have been charged up given the scenario. It's on a wooden pier.
