THE BOAT: Scow Bow Mini-Cruiser. 14’ long (4.25M,) with a 6’ beam (1.8M,) and a draft of 2’6” (0.77M.) She features twin keels and a Ljungström rig. Every design decision is made to keep her simple, strong, and watertight.
In this episode I disassemble the construction jig, build a rolling jig and, with the help of some kind volunteers, roll the boat over!

Very good. Good planning. She looks very big, but do not worry she will shrink when she gets into the mighty ocean. Good luck

So close! Can’t believe it’s been 2.5 years since you started the boat. Time flies

Congratulations on hitting that major milestone. The boat looks larger outdoors than it does in your garage and it looks more like a sailboat.

There's your capsize testing done.. Seriously though, congratulations on reaching this point. I'm sure you're feeling a very well deserved sense of pride. I've never been to the USA, but where you live looks unlike any housing development I've ever seen there. It looks very European with it's high density.

San Diego has become the most expensive place in America to live. So, space is at a premium.

Nice roll-over jig. If needed, you could have rolled the hull by yourself but the many hands made the work go smoother.

@ocean_capable_small_sailboat Okay I watch it finally, last evening.. Well, I’d say, that operation was a great success and I‘m sure a sense of pride must have come over you somewhere in that process shortly chased by the relief of having that task being completed with what appeared as no real issues to report. I’d say this episode’s achievement, milestone, and content calls for some belated complimentary words. Let me see if I can squeeze them all into this tiny space provided for me here, Perry. I may be only echoing the rest of the commentary here. Yet your handiwork and ingenuity of making various, yet limited resources work in your favor is worthy of a little more praise, heck why not? It is all well deserved. Lists are usually an approach I see you make. I guess I’ll give it a try, or my version of that with what it allows here... 1st ly. ) With the forethought you had and the intellect you brought to challenge once again it made this an unmatched contest. (No need to fight the boat... Let it work with you and no one gets hurt in the process. sounds like a synopsis of what I saw play out.) 2nd ly. ) Nice preparation and very strategic follow thru during this maneuver. 3rd ly. ) In making a great selection of the assembly of hands to assist you in this the whole process it moved with precision and purpose giving the boat no other option but to comply. No matter how awkward the boat turned out to be or not during this reset of positions. 4th ly . ) The minimalistic yet securely tight nestled roll cage and bare bones boat dolly cart, I’ll call them here. Got it done like a champ and all without, what looked like, any fuss at all. [ It seemed like those pint size inspectors like to keep all of you on your toes and apparently don’t let much get by them without giving it a look for themselves. Just in case they might find something that might give them some concern. I guess, they’d sit you down for a post operation meeting if so... Hopefully they were cool with it all though and this exercise didn’t cut in to their other favorite activities at the workshop. ] Lastly.) Thank you for the extra effort of capturing on video this boat of yours' 1st land-based barrel roll at all, and even more from multiple vantage points. I think it gave all your most interested viewers a fresh perspective not possible otherwise and allowed us to see the sailboat hull in a new and more natural light. It's a little mysterious how just that act might work like this... Yet I think it might have set some momentum of renewing the energy of the project a little too in the process. The more than usual multi cam edit, I assume, might have been fun to piece together as seamless as you did. Had us as viewers where we might position ourselves as curious onlookers that is, if we couldn't help you out. [ Must have felt odd to maybe sweep your garage floor quickly once without the OCSS tucked away in there tightly for a change in the few moments that was probably the case, if you took the opportunity. ] I suppose keep it light while it is inverted and the hopefully soon to follow, next roll will be just as easy and drama free for you once again.

Lol, thank you Shawn. The little inspectors really were checking everything very carefully, every boat seam and rolling wheel. I did not get much chance to appreciate the empty garage because I wanted to get my precious boat out of the street as soon as possible, but I did end up giving a thorough vacuuming under the boat now that the construction jig is gone. Now I actually have to add a lot of weight to the boat, in the form of multiple layers of fiberglass and epoxy on the bottom. And so it goes...

What an exciting accomplishment. Good for you. 🎉 What is the beam of the boat? How much clearance do you have when rolling the turning jig through the garage door?
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat 4 месяца назад
She has a 6' beam. It was a bit tight getting through the garage door, not terrible. But I did later decide I made the jig too wide and I cut off about 4" to make it easier to move around the boat.
