To my ears, the Tycobrahe is the winner. You are right about it having so much depth and texture with its overtones. I agree with fellow commenter Michael Greer: if Pedal Pawn clones the Tycobrahe that will definitely be added to my list of pedals to acquire.

I have the billy gibbons one from dunlop with the 7band eq and it is just amazing, there are so many tones in it, its unbelievable.

You should remove the different pedals from the chain when testing. Having them hooked up, even when off will effect the sound

I play the Beetronics Octahive based on the Tycobrahe. It offers both, fuzz and octave fuzz. Very versatile and responsive. It cleans very well. Great fuzz!

Great vid and killer playin as always! I have both RM Rocket Octavia and Chicago Iron Tycobrahe reissue. RM is very straight and prominent sounding, no blooming or shades in its tone. All or nothing. Tight, clear and hi-res like most RM pedals. Can do Symptom of Universe intro with punchy slicing low E riffage and really evil 5ths with glitchy decay. Has really gated feel to it, I’m having fun playing intro to Space Truckin with 4ths around twelve position on low strings, sounds like overdriving organ with sub bass to it. Cleans good with guitar vol, giving bright glitchy laser tone. Can do Commit a Crime pig squeal double stops no problem. CI Octavian is totally different, wide open killer, organic, uncompressed tone. Requires good clear playing to avoid mud and get good octave tracking. Octave blooms out of decaying fuzz tone, making you dig that squeal from wall off fuzz with intense vibrato. Awesome, like it a lot. VERY responsive to picking and guit vol/tone positions. Can be subtle, romantic and bluesy or absolutely wild wailing bitch)lol An instrument of a pedal itself.

That was so cool. They all sound different, and they all sound amazing. I have the wedge Dunlop now I need the Roger Mayer Octavia.

Very curious how the new(ish) MXR Octavio or the dunlop Billy gibbons Octavio stacks up to these, especially compared to the dunlop cheese wedge Hendrix version.. great playing btw!!

I like them all. The thing that got me though was that the EHX Octavix sounds so much like the Roger Mayer. Odd.

Nice demo, Chris. I have the Mayer, Fulltone Octafuzz and the EHX Octavix. I actually like all of them. Of those 3 I have, I’d choose the Roger Mayer for the cleanup reason you stated. Of the 3 you demonstrated, it’s a tough choice but I’ll stick w the Mayer, although the Tycho would be great to have for a little beefier tone on ballads. Oh, and my Gipsy Vibe is to arrive today!

I dont know if what you explained first suggested me. I felt exactly the same: Mayer the cleanest, Tyco muddier, and Dunlop in between. Would the Tyco has a trimpot that allows to match Dunlop ?

Have you ever compared the Tycobrahe to the newer Chicago Iron one? The only original one for sale is going for a whopping 4k... 😂 I don't use these pedals like Hendrix does for the octave per se, but more for the ring mod effect and almost envelope filter effect from varying pickup pressure playing single notes and chords, for a synthy type effect, or I'd probably get the RM. I actually use a model in my Axe Fx II of the Tyco II to get the effect, but wanted to move to real amps. I got the TOCT which can give me a great octave sound, but it doesn't respond to picking pressure in the same way. In the JHS octave video I hear the same kind of effect as what I can get in the Axe FX, but just wondering how close they are. The Chicago Iron is pretty pricey to buy for a test to just see if I can get one tone out of it.

Now that the Octone is out (yes, I have one), why not do this shoot-out again? Would be an interesting tone battle.

The big key to these pedals is to roll your guitars tone right down. It's One Rainy Wish tone to a tea then

The Roger Mayer definately sounds best! Much purer tone and not as much weird noice going on around the notes. It also seems to cut through the best. The Tychobrahe sound kind of murky and the Dunlop sounds like a bunch of stones falling down a mountain.. very noisey.. the Roger Mayer rocket sounds much cleaner and purer. Also Roger Mayer is the original inventor so his is the real thing. The others are faulty copies of other prototypes of Mayers. Good Demo.
