I remember my Nan saying in the seventies and eighties I don’t understand the times we’re living in she was in her 80s. 40 years later I’m middle aged saying actually the same thing. The end of the seventies was a blast.

@@fromthesidelines - I recognise all of them - Bill Rippe, Vic Roby, Arthur Gary and Roger Tuttle. (Late night to sign-off was usually Rippe's shift.)

I turned 11 the day before. Great TV watching at the time. The Gilligan's Island movie was one of the biggest hits that year. Gave a ratings boost for Chips.

12:35 I cannot remember his name BUT he was on that Showtime series "Brothers" as a gay brother to 2 other guys. He was originally from Long Island and I always thought he was very CUTE. He died a while back now - he could not have been over 50. Very sad.

The music played during the Jack Cafferty promo was a KPM number, "The Great Outside" by Keith Mansfield from 1972; that open sounded almost reminiscent of the intro of Roger Whittaker's "The Last Farewell," albeit with a different time signature.

WNBC V/O's heard in this clip included Vic Roby (on the "Sha Na Na" and "The Price Is Right" promos), Arthur Gary (on the "Bob Newhart" / "Mary Tyler Moore" promo), Roger Tuttle (on "Donahue" and "NewsCenter4 at Six") and Bill Rippe (local booth that late night/early morning).

Grease on Broadway?! But they had their movie just 4 months prior. Makes no sense at all.

It started on Broadway in 1972. John Travolta actually performed in it as a character that never made it into the movie in the early 70s while the show was on tour.

The movie version of Rent hit theaters nine years after the Broadway premiere. And the Chicago revival was going strong when that movie version premiered.

The local ABC station in my town still runs Judge Judy at 4pm. The other two have the news at that hour. The CBS station just started theirs to replace Dr Phil

I have a feeling that some of these commercials were during The $25,000 Pyramid. Because I think about six episodes aired on WNBC-TV 4 in 1978-79 including one at 1:30 in the afternoon in February 1979!
