Eight and a half minutes of superb material. I'm a half guard player and I will definitely add this to my game. I can see it being my new venue for the next year or two. Thank you so much, Professor.
Bro... This is phenomenal.. As of late I've been relying on strong arming the two on one to get into this configuration. Your approach will make it so much easier! Thank you! #OSS
Bro sir... Thank you so much. It was something so simple that I always overlooked. I felt confident with my half guard game, but this will take it to the next level. The more ways to get to the truck the better. Appreciate the videos thanks again!!!
This is fantastic! I can't believe I don't know this yet. My school focuses on Lucas Leite style half-guard attacks, and this stuff looks like it will blend incredibly well with that. Thank you!
Wow, iv been using the half guard octopus guard and it's my bread and butter, this is the first time seeing it from closed guard tho I'm so excited to start trying it. You went over all the problems iv been going through except for sometimes during the half guard octopus guard when I go to get my butterfly hooks in, they will squeeze my legs and I can't fish them out . Definitely going to troubleshoot this more
I just started taking backs from closed guard every roll, with spider guard on one side and a duck under to the other side this opens up a world of possibilies for back takes and attacks!
I've been finding myself in this position a lot lately (the half guard variation). I usually get there when the top guy overcommits to the crossface. The hip bump seemed like a natural thing to do, but then I remembered that I'd seen this video, probably a year ago if not more. Looks like there are a lot more options from there than I thought. Thanks again for the great content!
Check out Firas Zahabi and Oliver ( Ollie Geddes ) who show the half guard octopus position in detail. I have had a back take from when the top guy shows you his back from half guard that has always worked even with guys my belt level ( purple ) but this series is an attack rather than a response to an attack. I have been having a lot of success with the hip bump and the Geddes details on the back take ( the inexorable back take ) are great.
Watching the video through, Brandon goes into a lot of detail on half guard too but still, watch them all. Geddes has an alternative suggestion on the use of the far leg than the butterfly hook. I have used both.
Good stuff. i like your videos. ive already had some success trying your stuff. im a long legs as well. my training partners are in on the leglock craze so i'll have to make sure i avoid exposing feet and ankles. thanks for sharing
I like your video! I am going to train this stuff right now. I would love to visit your gym to train with you someday so you can show me more cool stuff like this.
Man thnak you so much for what you share and the simplicity of your explanations. I learned the kiss of the dragon from your videos, and it is an awesome add to my game. Once again thank you. Hope we will meet one day. Oss!
There is just one move that I like, the rest I would do it a little differently. When I do that twister looking entry I would reach for his right arm and hold his head down with my armpit and I would pin him in that position then I would little by little go for the back. i think that if you move so fast with no contact, presure and control, the oponent WILL escape.
I need to pick your brain on it. I am using it in training all the time against a 265 pounder who loves to play top half guard . These sweeps from octopus guard are super hard against someone his size
Do you have anything for when the opponent crossfaces you once you've already established the octopus guard and have one hand controlling the lat? Do you just peel it off with your posting hand?
I've been using your Half-Octopus Backtake sequence for about a month now. Love it. However, I'm getting killed when people switch their hips (like reverse side-control) before I fully sit-up. Even smaller guys are able to keep me pinned down there. Any tips?
Will do. Thanks. Have you seen "Yuri Simoes Beltgrip Backroll"? It's the same position, but with the belt grip and pretty much captures the same concepts and techs. Cool to see the Gi/Nogi crossover.
bjjbrawler1 all of these are done, have been done and my students do with full resistance. Lots in competition too. i teach no techniques that are for zero resistance
