No, it was a Strat, bridge pickup. A Tele has way too much attack for that sound. You are sitting on your ears! Being photographed playing a guitar on a day doesn't mean you recorded a song with it. I had three guitars in my hands today and I'm not even recording or a member of the Beatles. He probably started off with the Tele and then saw it sounded better with the Strat (which it does).
@@tobisteffen not the bridge pickup on either, it has the hollower tone of a neck pickup (bridge pickup would sound sharper with more attack). You can get a neck pickup to sound quite bright (almost like a bridge pickup) if you EQ it properly. Just look at all the other guitar covers of this song, it is indeed possible to get that tone with the neck pickup on a Strat or a Tele.
Hardly any of the covers get the tone right :D On any Beatles song. It might be possible on the neck pickup. But i think a Tele has too much attack - it must be smooth. No chicken attack. @@mr_bassman6685
my favorite thing about these instrumental covers is sometimes with beatles songs all you can pay attention to is the melody, but these videos really express all their skill as musicians.

I know the Rick and Hofner have very different designs but I always thought it was quite easy to get the late Beatles tone out of a Hofner. I suppose it's Paul's playing style (lots of palm muting) and flatwounds that give the main impression of the sound. And you can get a fair amount of treble out of a Hofner actually if you want it to :)
