The "SIT!" line during the tiger part of the jungle chase was an in-joke for British audiences. In the 70s and 80s there was a very famous dog trainer called Barbara Woodhouse who was on TV all the time. That was her catchphrase! Oh, and Kristina Wayborn is a trained gymnast - when she slides over the balcony unravelling the fabric, she did that stunt herself.

3:22 Moore really was wonderful. He never forgot how lucky he was to do what he did as a movie star and always had time for the fans who helped bring him the riches the role did. I had a couple of interactions with him on Twitter before he passed and I cherish them. There's another anecdote that does the rounds on social media regularly that is completely true and again shows the wit of the man. It's a bit of a read but worth it for the finale. It would've actually have taken place during the 'Octopussy' period too. "As a seven-year-old in about 1983, in the days before First Class Lounges at airports, I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore sitting at the departure gate, reading a paper. I told my granddad I'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. My grandad had no idea who James Bond or Roger Moore were, so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" As charming as you'd expect, Roger asks my name and duly signs the back of my plane ticket, a fulsome note full of best wishes. I'm ecstatic, but as we head back to our seats, I glance down at the signature. It's hard to decipher it but it definitely doesn't say 'James Bond'. My grandad looks at it, half figures out it says 'Roger Moore' - I have absolutely no idea who that is, and my heart sinks. I tell my grandad he's signed it wrong, that he's put someone else's name - so my grandad heads back to Roger Moore, holding the ticket which he's only just signed. I remember staying by our seats and my grandad saying "he says you've signed the wrong name. He says your name is James Bond." Roger Moore's face crinkled up with realisation and he beckoned me over. When I was by his knee, he leant over, looked from side to side, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said to me, "I have to sign my name as 'Roger Moore' because otherwise...Blofeld might find out I was here." He asked me not to tell anyone that I'd just seen James Bond, and he thanked me for keeping his secret. I went back to our seats, my nerves absolutely jangling with delight. My grandad asked me if he'd signed 'James Bond.' No, I said. I'd got it wrong. I was working with James Bond now. Many, many years later, I was working as a scriptwriter on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was completely lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him in passing the story of when I met him in Nice Airport. He was happy to hear it, and he had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused, looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld." I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man."

What I like about this is that they finally got a love interest that worked with Roger Moore's age. He's with age contemporaries. He's not that old guy surrounded by much younger people. His chemistry with Maud Adams. A lot of people remember this for the clown outfit, but that's maybe 5 or 10 minutes of the movie max and it makes sense thematically. It's not like telling a tiger to sit or some of the other crazy things Moore had to do in his movies. I'd put this among Roger's better Bond films because they understood how to age him gracefully and it's a good follow up to the last one, where they got rid of a lot of the silliness of previous films and focused on what makes James Bond James Bond. Some of the best scenes in the movie are just him hanging out in India. You never see that kind of thing in modern Bond movie because since the 90s, everyone's in too big a hurry to get to the next action scene. What I appreciate about the movies from 1962 to 1989 is that they're for the most part well paced films. When Goldeneye was made, Martin Campbell did a good job not making a Michael Bay movie while keeping it modern. In 1983, we're still at the point where movies are pretty well paced and there are moments where you can just enjoy a scenario or the way the movie is filmed, the locations. I find it funny that this is one of the first (maybe the 3rd) Bond film where the title of the moment isn't in the theme song, for obvious reasons, but the lyrics match exactly what's going on between Bond and Octopussy. There's a lot I like about this one.

This is the first of a couple of Bond movies in the 80s that feature a main villain duo, instead of just one. Usually people find those less appealing, but I think it gives those characters a good opportunity to cover different villainous vibes. In this one we have Kamal Khan being the bougie, snobby, quick witted villain and Orlov being the crazy, over the top Russian general. I quite like it. Very much looking forward to you reacting to the Timothy Dalton movies. He's my personal favorite Bond.

In this movie you can see for the first time the amazing aerial stuntwork of B.J. Worth and Jake Lombard who are doing the fight scenes on that Beechcraft plane in midair. They will return for all stunts involving aerial work up to "Tomorrow never dies". Together with the great miniature vfx/sfx work by John Richardson (the exploding hangar at the beginning) they really did some amazing scenes!

Roger Moore's last outing as James Bond was in "A View to A Kill." Moore was 57 years old and was paired with Tanya Roberts, 29. Roberts's mother was only 50, seven years younger than Moore. Stated differently, Roger Moore was older than his female co-star's mother.

On September 1st 1983 three months after the premier of this movie the Soviet Union would shoot down Korean Airlines Flight 007 a 747 killing all 269 people on board. This year marks the 40th anniversary of that abhorrent act of murder.

This version of a M is a totally different character than the previous one played by Bernard Lee. Infact some Bond fans think its the Admiral that Robert Brown played In The Spy Who Loved Me. Also Steven Berkoff who played General Orlov was the villain in Beverly Hills Cop. Lastly are you going to react to the unofficial James Bond film Never Say Never Again starring Sean Connery that came out that year.

Pointless trivia: Douglas Wilmer who played Jim Fanning starred in the 1970 film Cromwell which also starred a few other Bond film cast members including Geoffrey Keen, Charles Gray, Jack Gwillim & Timothy Dalton. Also Steven Berkoff starred in the TV series UFO which featured other Bond film cast members including Ed Bishop, Michael Billington, Vladek Sheybal, Shane Rimmer, Basil Moss, Lois Maxwell, Anthony Chinn & David Healy.

Bernard Lee died in January of 1981. He was scheduled to film FYEO as most of the film was shot in 1980 but he was too ill so he was replaced at the last minute by having Moneypenny say “M is on leave and the chief of staff wants to see you”. In Octopussy M is back but now played by Robert Brown for the remainder of the 80s
@RltchieI
@RltchieI Год назад
And then began the question of “Was Robert Brown’s M the same M as Bernard Lee and just a change in actor like Bond or was he playing was he playing Admiral Hargraves TSWLM again who had been promoted to the position of M?”
@Stenbrotsgatan
@Stenbrotsgatan Год назад
@@RltchieI I guess it’s an open question but I truly think it’s simply a replacement. Same character with different actor.
@RltchieI
@RltchieI Год назад
@@Stenbrotsgatan quite possible as when we see M in the pre title sequence of TLD he is wearing a uniform with the insignia of a rear admiral. In TSWLM, Hargreaves is seen with the insignia of a vice admiral, so he either got demoted for something or had to take a drop in rank to meet the pay grade to become the new M.

In 1983 there were two Bond movies released. One starring Roger Moore and one starring Sean Connery (Never Say Never Again). They went head-to-head. Octopussy won, but it was actually by what I would call a small margin, considering how long Connery had been away from the role, and that they couldn't use the signature Bond music. Never Say Never Again was a remake of Thunderball since there was a big furore over the rights to the novel.

This movie is more Indiana Jones than James Bond. James Brolin was originally going to play the role of Bond in a screen test that's available online or Blu Ray. Thankfully this version of Bond being an American never happened and Roger Moore was brought in to do Octopussy and A View To A Kill.

Bernard Lee (the old M) died in between the release of Moonraker and the filming of For Your Eyes only. Fun fact about the new M, Robert Brown: He already had appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me as an admiral. The popular theory amongst fan is, that this M is that same character and he got promoted. As far as the title of the film goes: What you gotta understand is that a lot of these admittedly outrageous names for Bond women came straight from the source material, from Ian Fleming's novels. And yes, even this one. The movie is a combination of adapting two short stories and making its own thing out of it. It adapts the short stories "Octopussy" and "Property of a Lady". I mean, Fleming had previously come up with names like Pussy Galore and Solitaire, all straight from the books.

Prop planes with in-line or rotary engines use high octane gasoline (100-110+ octane), the same as used by racing speedboats, which is called AvGas (aviation gasoline) Jet fuel, however is low grade, equivalent to cheap 50-60 octane gasoline or the "white gas" used in camp stoves and lanterns.
