Odd Findings in the Anza Borrego Desert

While most people come to the Anza Borrego Desert to see the amazing wild flowers and the giant mountain views, I was excited to check out the 130 + metal sculptures that are scattered through-out the area. Ricardo Breceda has been an artist and sculptor for many years with world wide recognition. These sculptures started being installed here back in 2008. Next time you're in the Anza Borrego area, come for the flowers but stay for the artwork!

These magnificent steel sculptures will last 200+ years in the desert, easily! That very light coating of rust on the surfaces will actually form a protective barrier and stop the rust from going any further. Unless they're destroyed by the biggest destructive force on the planet...man. Thanks for this video, you do great work.

They are absolutely stunning. I love this type of 'random' art in obscure places. My soulmate and I (rest her soul) once spent a week standing up large ocean weathered logs on a beach we lived on. We'd dig a hole then stand the logs and fill the sand around them. Some were 10 to 12 feet high and looked like sentinels on the beach. We knew that eventually a King tide or storm would knock them over, but for a while, they stood out along the beach. We did this for about a kilometre (something of a mile LOL) along the beach. Probably 20 or 30 of them. Walker Bay beach near Cooktown Queensland Australia for anyone interested. We lived on the beach in a camp and worked in town. Dream lifestyle.

That is really neat. Look's like he used mostly tack welds and in some place's rivet's. Tack welding prevent's distortion and is really all that he needed as most of it look's like sheet metal.

Enjoyed the video and the scenery is spectacular! The crude welding is likely because thin metal like those sculptures are made from (1/16” maybe?) can be real tricky to weld without burning through it. Small tack welds along the seams are enough to hold it together without making full welds.
