My favourite band of all time. They sound exactly the same live as they did when they first appeared. Robert's voice has not changed one bit. His voice is instantly recognisable. He is the King of the Goths.
It amazes me how this song always makes me want to cry for him regardless of the upbeat music. The realization of losing someone you really love because of some stupid shit you did is incredibly painful. Holding something like that in would be very difficult. These guys dont hold back with brutal honesty, that is true art to me.
Robert Smith has a super thick British accent. His music can take you from child-like happiness to the loneliest painful places in relationships... like no other band.
@@shanebrown4146 Ah! Yeah I missed wild mood swings - but caught them on Bloodflowers. It's hard to pick a favourite really. But wish sticks with me because it was my first. :)
@@gamwisesamgee7400 I totally agree. It always bothers me when people complain about Robert Smith or the Cure being dark and moppy. Generally they aren't familiar with the catalog. Are there darks songs? Sure, just like most bands.
That song was put out on the late 70’s on their first EP Three Imiginary Boys. I would love to see you react to songs a decade later, maybe Pictures of you or Wendy Time
The Cure are so good. So. Good. Anything--ANYTHING--off Disintegration is a must hear. For the older catalogue World War is very good, as is Killing An Arab (don't judge it by the title). A personal favorite is Jumping Someone Else's Train.
He now looks like everyone's AUNT EDNA! However, live, even to this day - he sounds excellent - very few musicians can keep the same quality voice - but he does. Very deserved of being in the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME.
The Cure is almost like other alt rock/ post-punk bands, The Smiths/Morrissey, early U2, REM, and Joy Division.. Upbeat music, sorrow like lyrics. 🎸 Melancholy (moody....happy/sad). Yall called it! This was typical '80s/'90s alternative rock vibe. This was '80s alt rock (late '70s) jangle pop/college rock.. Post punk.. Part of new wave. Goth rock too. Listen to " A Forest" from The Cure! That one is really good. The Cure is one of the pioneers of alternative rock and helped get alt rock from underground to mainstream. I was in school when they started become mainstreamish (early 90s?) Check out other similar bands ( more Gothic, darkwave) like Sioxsee and the Banshees, Killing Joke, Frozen Autumn, Clan of Xymox, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.
From the cure pop era, sparkly tunes with (spot on brad ) melancholic lyrics. In between days is epic, close to you utterly encompasses them. Robert Smith is married to his childhood sweetheart, I’ve always thought that this is what allows him to tap into song about loss & isolation so well, as it’s so alien to him to be alone. But there is humour to them. Love cats 💗🐈 , caterpillar 🐛 are 2 of the most brilliant poptastic tunes available to the human ears
As a hard rock-metal guy, this band is genius. Still wanting to see them live. The songs Pictures of You and Lullaby - but like KISS and Alice Cooper - you must watch the videos or concert footage. Great live version of Pictures of You in concert
I was a metal head in the 80s but The Cure was still a band I really enjoyed. My first ever concert was their Disintegration tour. Still one of the most epic concerts I’ve ever seen, right up there with Maiden, Metallica and Rush. The Cure in their prime were bloody good.
The thing about vocals is that if you have to decide whether you like them, just say yes! you'll be a lot happier. If vocals aren't worth listening to, you'll hate them.
Yes, football game in Green Bay.. I lost my best friend in a car accident. I cried in public. 2001..coolest mf'er ever. I rode his coattails. He was a 10, I was a 9.
Wow. Brad really gets it this time. One of my favorite songs. Brilliant lyrics. “Misjudged your limits Pushed you to far Took you for granted Thought that you needed me more”
That's how Robert Smith sounds, you'll get used to it. Have you seen how he looks? You should watch one on your own so you can check him out. Also, Just Like Heaven and A Forest are good the Cure songs to react to.
lol. i don't know if he has a sinus infection or not, but it he does, it's more than 20 years old, because that's the way he ALWAYS sounds. it's just their style.
This is really coming from a narcissistic POV lol. "I would tell you that I loved you if I thought that you would stay". So that whole "love" thing is transactional. Huh. I've heard the song a thousand times and never really thought about that until now.
Hated the Cure when I was in HS, all the "New Wave" kids listened to them. Now that I'm older, I appreciate their music more. Robert Smith is the first Emo performer ever!
Why do people keep calling them goth or emo? I’ve heard other goth and emo music(terrible imo) and they sound nothing alike. The Cure is New Wave like you said. I would be one of those kids that was listening to them, and still do( my sons’ favorite band) that you hated lol
Jet black hair, mascara, always looked sad, and as girls used to say, "he's in so much pain!", even when he singsFriday I'm in love, he sounds depressed, ha ha. He's a cool dude tho
@@Gretzelpolanco don’t forget the red lipstick lol. I never thought of him as being in pain, just weird and strange and different which I thought was cool but it was more about the music and the lyrics than his style
Its just a Ffantasy by. Billy Joel Boy’s Don’t Cry by The Cure Envelope Ideas by The Dawn Dancing with My Self by Billy Idol. Private Idaho by B52 Rock Lobster B52. Whip it by Devo Head Over Hills by Gogo Matador by Xmal Deutsland and My Way by Sex Pistol🤩🤩🤩
I don't even notice anything weird about Robert Smith's voice, but you're like the third reaction channel to comment on how strange it is. I did listen to The Cure a lot in the 80s and 90s though.
He actually hits on a very real truth in this song...I remember my Mum dying when I was just a young un, but with my father being a typical truck driver I was always taught that boys don't cry. I remember having to run a bath and cry under water when she passed, and then when I got out, having to pretend nothing is wrong. It's pretty cruel the way males have to deal with things sometimes.
My family always pushed 2 times when it is ok for a man to cry in front of others. The birth of your first child and the death of your mama. My father was a very stoic man. I only ever saw him cry when my mama died. I didn't even see him when his mama died. I got home, I saw him, we hugged and cried quietly for about a minute, then we got to work on her funeral without another word being said.
@@user-rl7wu7qj6q yeh I get ya...I guess now I am older, thinking back... maybe he couldn't deal with it himself. I dunno...grief makes you do strange things I guess. :/
@@shanebrown4146 I’m totally down for a Goth Stream there are so many amazing bands for Brad and Lex to discover (Bauhaus, Clan of Xymox, Gene Loves Jezebel, Skinny Puppy, early Ministry) just to name a few
Such a great song. The Cure. An original sound from a legendary band. Brad nails the subtext to the vocal performance with a discernment bordering on omniscience.
