Hi everyone, I’ve tried a few portraits but not pet portrait in regular size.
So I thought I could try to embroider my cat.
In this video I show my working progress from start to finish, along with some subtitles explaining what I’m doing. I had fun making this piece, stitch one hair at a time and seeing his face slowly appearing is oddly satisfying. And as I know this cat so well, makes it much easier.
I’ve used 35 colors, lots of beige and white.
Stitches used: Needle Painting ( Thread painting)
Fabric: Thin canvas
Thread: DMC Embroidery Floss 1 strand

Yes, trace the eyes nose and ear, then draw the details on fabric

Thank you 😊 I just try to mark down all the details I see on the face, and sometimes it’s not just one layer, but add stitches on top of stitches.

hello! how did you get this design? have you done it by your own hands or did you printed it? that designing step is the hardest step for me to create these realistic embroideries, but I'd love to embroider my cats 🥺

That came out absolutely beautiful! I’m going to be trying my first one in a couple days. How do you get the eyes to look so shiny? And did you ever do an animal like a cat or a dog but you do the loop or turkey stitch they call it it’s like fur

Once you add the high light, the eyes will look shiny. I have never tried to use Turkish rug for pet portrait, but that’s a good idea, should be good for dogs with long hair 😍

How do you fasten off when you change Color’s?

I usually don’t fasten it, just make 1 or 2 tiny stitches nearby

Beautiful! What kind of pen did you use? Does it bleed through the stitches?

Hi, I use a water soluble pen 0.5mm, it’s really thin so it’s fine. I think it’s also depends on the fabric.

How do you tie the knot on such thin thread

I don’t tie a knot, just make a very tiny stitch and the thread will be locked. You can watch my tutorial videos, I show how I make it.

Thanks 😊 With the help of carbon paper, I trace down the eyes mouth. But too many details so I draw the rest on the fabric with water soluble pen.

The eyes look incredible real. Why did you wash the piece? Do you always do that? I believe I had never seen you doing it.

Thanks. 😊 Actually I always wash them, I used a water soluble pen to draw, I needed to wash the blue ink off.

Keep it on the hoop during wash and dry, won’t change shape at all. But without the hoop is very risky...
