It really depends on the fabric, whether it's breathable or insulated . I myself have newsboy caps and flat caps which are made from wool or cashmere or British wax cotton for the colder months . In the hot months, I have newsboy caps and applejacks made from linen , linen mixed with silk , Japanese cotton, and European linen . There shouldn't be no reason why the flat cap and newsboy/baker cap be only for winter it all depends on the fabric the construction of the cap and the outfit one's wearing no matter what season.
There are several other materials. I live in a tropical country. I usually wear my linen flat cap and it is perfectly fine. No one will wear a tweed flat cap in hot countries.
Ashley, I love your channel and have learned so much from you. Allow me to reciprocate one piece of crucial constructive criticism. You know how it's facepalm-worthy when a guy wears a nice suit or a simple business casual outfit ...but has 58 bracelets and multiple metal rings on each finger? It's like he's trying out for a 1990's boyband after work. It's the same level of cringe when a woman wears a nice dress and has 27 ear piercings/earrings. Unless you are auditioning for the new Pirates of the Caribbean film, one earring is all you need, at least when on camera giving advice to others about sartorial sophistication. Change this one thing, and you will be a 10. Have a beautiful week!
I wear them all year round. In place of a baseball cap they help elevate an outfit. The rule, as is with any clothing item, is for the material to be appropriate for ones weather conditions. Linen and/or cotton are great for warmer temperatures while wool and/or corduroy or even leather favor cooler temperatures.
Just a note on the history, it was a legal requirement to wear a head covering not a flat cap. However flat caps were very popular at this time with the lower classes due to their price and availability. They could also be made at home if needed which couldn't be said with many other hats of the time period.
I wear hats all year round, it depends on the material and the weather which one I choose.. wool/ tweed during winter; there are flat caps/ newsboy caps made of linen or silk as well.. nice for the transitional period.. but if it’s really hot I’ll wear a Panama hat.. if it rains the waxed cotton one relating to my Barbour jacket is the best, baseball caps never in the city.. But I’m still proud to show off my clean shaven head as well👨🏻🦲👍🏻

Hats other than baseball caps just look too try-hard to me, at least within the context here of Southern California. I'll wear wide-brimmed hats when I really want to protect my ears and neck from the sun, but otherwise, a baseball cap can still look reasonably stylish without looking like I'm trying too hard to stand out.
I like tweed flat caps but they're only acceptable in situations such as 00:26 - in the countryside with a check shirt, cords, barbour jacket and wellies. Can't stand those Peaky Blinders 'cock bonnets' in any context.
