The f40PH had 3 modes of operation one was running no H.E.P. and in this mode it pulled with all 3,000 HP Two was with H.E.P. which leaves only 2700 HP for hauling and the third was H.E.P. only.

We've just come to a great day in F40PH History. Tri-Rail's F40PHs are finally starting to come back from their rebuild. It won't be long until the rails of South Florida are once again freshly coated in Furry Blood.

Even if Amtrak no longer uses them, the F40PH is still in use by commuter services and short lines even today. Heck, they even survived Chicago Metra's attempt at replacing them with the MP36PH3-C due to their superior reliability over their would-be replacements - Metra still runs the MP36PH3-C, but it never became the primary workhorse of their fleet, the F40PH still holds that honor. And it will probably still continue to hold that honor, as the SD70MACH is primarily intended to replace the aging F40C and MP36PH3-C.

I guess I should feel honored that I sat in an F40's engineer's seat and had a photo taken. These were very good units, but I just can't see them being categorized as "the greatest ever", unless you're indicating that the entire EMD 40 Series was excellent, which it was. I rode Amtrak often years back and remember the breakdowns and superhigh "screaming" rpms. A friend of mine who was an engineer had permanent hearing damage as a result.
CERN considered using the F40PH to power the Large Hadron Collider, but was forced to resort to simple electricity when it was revealed that two F40PHs colliding would instead crush the universe between them, as not even the F40PH can stop the F40PH.
@DHGameStudios And Chuck Norris refused to bring the F40PH to the Philippines. We would have these replacing the GE trains soon, but we opted for Korea's own F40PH. Dammit.
