A method for anchoring the shoes: Glue sections of wooden dowels into the holes you used for the alignment PVC [drill another further back towards the heel if necessary]. You can then use those for an anchor point and screw the shoes into the them. You might be able to pull out the insole first so as to bury the screw heads for comfort. After having shoe attachments come loose in two costumes, I always find a place for a mechanical fastener in addition to adhesive.

I never realized how big Gundam feet are compared to the body. Such complex and huge pieces seem like they’d be super difficult to manage. Props to you Odin. Can’t wait to see the legs done and see how it all looks together

nylon strap w/velcro over the toe of shoes and cemented between foam layers. 10% chance of contact adhesive holding up through a whole con. You could take bets as a side gig LOL. People love to gamble on anything!!!!!!

@@OdinMakes was thinking of making hulk feet the same way. I thought about some kind of bunge anchored in the foam bottom snaked threw the top and attached to my calf on the back and gluing the shoe toes only so I can rock up on the balls of my feet but the bungee acts like a tendon. Thought?

Thank you for this build. I made a Thanos suit build a few years ago and used wood to add the height. I never liked how it came out. Now I will go back and use this method to fix it.

Odin you've done it again you are a Gundam building master. Joe is lucky to have a foam master like you constructing his Gundam Cosplay. the feet look awesome and I can understand, Legs and feet would be difficult to do a whole video on. One at a time is the best way. stay safe and keep crafty my friend. Odin you're a great mentor. and this is how Odin Makes, I love your slogan. when I build with cardboard and than show my pals I always says, Cardboard is Free and for Jman it's a Breeze. Another material I have been using myself to raise the feet is that pink or blue insulation foam stacked like you did. It is super light and once stacked its super strong holding weight. Seems to have worked for me so far. also put 3 long bolts down through the bottom of the shoes down into a thin piece of wood through the foam to hold them in place. Great job!

Ooh, this is a good option to add height for a Witch King costume! Much better than trying to rig a shoulder harness to have the head & shoulders higher.

not only it is an accurate RG design, but the proportions are adjusted into actual human proportions, probably the best part of the build (many MS cosplays disregard this and looking very awkward) cool approach for the feet, human has thin feet, pretty neat to have that only accounts for the ankle joint of the MS

Adding velcro straps to lock the shoes into place over the top should take a lot of stress off the contact cement and help it stick around for longer. Should also make the lifts easier to walk with. (think REALLY BIG sandals :P)

Just an idea for making the feet walk similar to normal walking is taking inspiration from speed skating skates. They have the blade attached on a hinge by the toe, so maybe if the shoes were attached similarly then maybe Joe could walk a little more comfortably. Plus it might add a better contact point for the shoes.

Well with how you said that the heel is what usually gave out I would say cut a small Channel underneath where the shoe is use a lot of glue and maybe even some epoxy and a decent piece of plywood and a washer or three with some foam padding on top of it after a decently long and properly tooth screw is put in and you can have some foam in between the shoe section and the wood plate.

Hey odin, for extra stability on the legs, try to reinforce them by screwing in screws that go through the shoe and into the foam. Now if it is a bit uncomfortable to walk to walk like that, just put some padding to cover it up. Pretty sure it will not break at all like that

I think that basic black slip on shoes with memory foam inserts would be more comfortable as well as he an easier process to put on accompanied by black fabric to hide them would be better.

i did similar style stilts before. instead of just gluing shoes to the bottom, because i was worried that wouldn't be strong enough, i instead used snowboard boot clamps as my base. they already had screwholes in the bottom, which easily allowed me to attach them to the frame. then i just built up the armor around the leg to cover up the boot. it wasn't the easiest thing to get in and out of, but it was sturdy!

I saw many concerts with GWAR, 1995-2005. Great shows! I didn't work with them, just cosplay! One Halloween contest we went to had L7 playing, who had toured with GWAR- they acknowledged us, and pointed us out during their set while they were on stage! Very fun.

The only pair of stilts I've seen for professionals, used bolts through the shoe soles (into metal plates--Aluminum, I think). The shin straps were fabric. Maybe running fabric straps between the lowest and second-lowest foam layer, with velcro, then up through the rest of the layers to capture the shoe top, would tie down the shoe. But you'd need a tear-down to change your build to do that. Counter-sinking metal bolts would screw into the foam (or you could get inserts for it), and you only need one or two--drill straight down through the top of the shoe. If you're so inclined.

Wouldn't putting a long screw that goes all the way through the shoes into the foam feet work as well. Provided of course that you cover the screw's head with some more foam or something.

I imagine you could probably put a screw through where the arch of the foot goes. But I'm not sure how well foam would be able to hold onto a screw, especially under repeated stress from walking. If I had that level of tools and resources, I would probably have embedded a piece of plywood between the top two layers of foam, and then have the screws go through that.
