Is terrified.Terrified of a God who is apparently defeated, but who he knows is more alive than ever Terrified because he knows he is going to lose the war, that he will be defeated and that he has no chance of defeating this new god And this new God does not see him with hatred, resentment or arrogance. Instead, seeing him terrified, he takes him with sweetness and feels compassion for him. The wise, the warrior, the powerful god who sought omnipotence with all his might. While all other Gods and Goddesses across Pantheons personified as Elements of the Cosmos themselves such as War, Lust, Wealth, Beauty, Luck, Fire, Storm, Death, Strength, Nature, Stars or Precognitions, none of them is more greater and all-powerful than *Love* itself, and Jesus Christ is Love. He represents Moral, compassion, and forgiveness. The goodness of all Humanity. *He is the Heart of God that took form of a man.* And Odin will ultimately lose.
Not just love, remember that the pharaoh was humbled by an eclipse, basically God outshining Ra. Christ is the condensation of the all the gods, because He is the source of all. Due to that, he is able to judge them, which is exactly what he did at the Cross and the Resurrection. People who participate in His life (Christians) will also judge the gods (referred too as angels/principalities in scripture but same thing) and take their thrones, as Christ is putting all things under his feet. These are what Saints are. All those gods will be held to account and answer for the suffering and tyranny they have inflicted on humanity.

Already there's a shift from ruthlessness to mercy.
This actually made me feel awestruck. Too often modern media portrays Norse Paganism as the protagonist with Christians being the villains, contradicting a lot of historical events to do so. Seeing Jesus paralleling Odin on the cross, then coming down from the cross to comfort him is not only accurate I think, but heartwarming. Even an arrogant man like Odin is forgiven by Lord Jesus.
@groovejester8325 I don't know. I've always felt like all the gods of every culture existed together at one point, and their strength depended on the number of mortal worshippers. When Christianity and Islam rose in their respective areas of the world, it caused many gods to lose their powers because people in the millions stopped worshipping them in favor of Jesus and Allah respectively.
“The story of Christ is simply a true myth:a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it really happened: and one must be content to accept it in the same way, remembering that it is God’s myth where the others are men’s myth: i.e., the pagan stories are god expressing himself through the minds of poets, using such images as He found there, while Christianity is God expressing himself through what we call ‘real things’” - C.S. But the according to the shows narrative the Islamic gods didn't fit the description or "didn't fit the bill" so to speak of what odin was trying to be, hence the three odins. odin the Wanderer, the Warrior and odin the wise. Jesus represented all three of these things in one body and living them out in his human life. He WANDERED around the Middle east/Mediterranean, He FOUGHT sin with the words of his Gospel which is considered a sword for the believers and Jesus was filled with so much WISDOM that he not only avoided the tricks of those that attempt to trick him or doubt himself but did so without succumbing to them at all ever, all which is something the Norse pantheon/Quran does not address/meet the criteria for. No, but you’re not far off. The version of Norse mythology we have is based on the written accounts set down *centuries* after Christianity had thoroughly overwritten all lingering trace of the living Norse polytheistic tradition in Scandinavia, especially the myth of Ragnarok prior to the advent of Christianity. Unfortunately if there were any written accounts from the heyday of Norse polytheism recording their myths in the original forms they haven’t survived the centuries. Because of this we have no idea what the original myth (if there even was one) entailed about what would follow the final end, and the Christianized version has heavy tones of the new world that grows from Ragnarok is the Christian world where the influence of Jesus Christ makes a better realm than the one ruled by the trickster Odin, his homicidal son Thor, and all the other shenanigans polytheistic deities usually get up to. Zach Snyder being Zach Snyder and thus having the subtlety of a steroid-abusing crackhead when it comes to Christian symbolism, he turbo-charged the bejeesus out of this interpretation and makes it explicit that the death of the Aesir will make way for Christianity to pave their bones under the cobbles and conquer everything Odin ever knew.

People clown on Snyder for Christian references in his work, but you'd be stupid if you didn't include it in a story about Norse Gods. It makes it more valid. Look at the MCU, they have Thor running around the Earth and nobody ever brings up the fact that there's a mythological god existing in modern world. And while Jesus might be "loving", old-testament or Torah Yahweh was war-like, storm-like, battle-father or "sky-father" of Israel (Yahweh originally being a son of the cannanite-orign father of all gods-El Elyon). And as like the old-testament to the new-testament, if one does not worship Jesus they are tortured by demons forever in the endless void, so not so much of a "loving" choice. Christianity in Europe & the non-"white" world, spread by warfare, violence & colonization. Africans in race-based-slavery by Christian-European Nations & Amerindians (especially children) tortured out of their culture in Civilizing-Church-Schools (etc). But Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, including Abrahamic-religions who do not view Jesus as the son-of-Yahweh, & other religions would not only survive the Christian purge but thrive beside it/in-spite of it. Jesus was angered at the temple, the house of God, being turned into a marketplace. He was not a saint and prayed & repented like everyone else, for he was mortal. 4. He taught selflessness & living a life of humility and giving. Those dedicated to following him would dedicate their lives solely to him and spreading his teachings. 5. The sword text can easily be misinterpreted, but his coming would bring division, separate children from their parents and the ways of their household. Interestingly, that has been happening for ages now. 6. He was born and raised a Jew. His gripes were not with the laws & history of his culture, but the corruption in the religious leadership at the time. He came to wipe all sins and bring the Holy spirit to the world so that everyone can have access to God freely and individually. 7. Insulting any divine figure is blasphemy, obviously. That's a unanimous thing. Jesus IS God in the flesh. It was his grand selfless act to purge the world of sin. That bloody poetic. 8. The only God that's tame at all is Buddha. You clearly haven't explored the other mythologies if you think that Yahweh is more messed up. He's definitely had his moments in the Old Testament. But I doubt he'd even be on the competing list with other gods for that spot.
Christianity tanks a lot of hate from fans of this show. When in fact, the reason we have norse mythos to tell today is because of the Christian monks that learned the norse languages and their culture and made copies and preserved their texts throughout history. Christian monks did not worship the norse gods but they loved their norse bretheren and valued their culture. In doing so, many of the norse people willingly converted to Christianity due to the love they experienced from Jesus Christ and his disciples.
Everyone here treats Jesus and Odin two different people, but absolutely no one noticed the parallell between the two. Odin hung himself from a tree to gain knowledge, then was reborn to lead his people. Jesus was crucified to save others, then was reborn to lead his people. Odin is terrified because he knows that after he died, a new world will come which does not worship the Aesir anymore, but his reincarnated, peaceful, changed self. *Odin is afraid that he will be forgotten*
In a retrospective meta narrative aspect, this scene was absolutely perfect. Christianity was the thing that killed the norse gods at the end in a sense, and independently of what else was going to eventually replace Odin, the fact that is a god who opposes most of his goals and attributions is very fitting

I understood its meaning: it is about Jesus being the only god remembered by everyone and about Odin and the Norse gods being forgotten by people when the Norse era and their reign ends since they are pagan gods and Jesus Christ is the only true and almighty god.
