ODIN SPHERE ROCKS! - Happy Console Gamer 

I love the art-style more than anything.

I started playing this on the PS3 today, and yes, it DEFINITELY rocks. I'm having so much fun with it, and it's so gorgeous! I'm really happy with all the changes they made to the battle system, and all the new features like the traveling kitchen and improved item management system. SO GOOD.

dang, they really added a lot. I don't remember skills or having different types of attacks in the original, or having restaurants in the middle of the dungeon

I love Vanillaware games and when they announced a remake of Odin Sphere I jumped on board right away even though I played it on PS2 already. Very fun game, great characters, and, of course, beautiful.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the remaster of odin sphere hcg.I was a early adopter of the PS2 version since george kamitiani directed it.Odin Sphere was pretty much a spiritual successor to princess crown,which also sold me on the game.I've heard the tweaks to this remaster of odin sphere are really good so i'm gonna have to buy it.

I live in Europe and I got the European version from Play Asia, not only do we not get a bonus art book but the shipping cost as much as the game. When I finally bought it I realized I should have gotten the US version since it already came out. I am still kicking myself.

Got it on launch for my Vita. Aaaaaaaah, so good! I loved the PS2 version, but this remaster is just. A thousand times better.

I never got what the big deal over greatest hits games were. Who cares if it has the green or red label? Just because it doesn't look nice on the shelf? I don't care what version it is, as long as it's in great condition.

Another similar and fantastic game is Dust: An Elysian Tail.

its a shame its not released here. it kinda looks like dragons crown and muramasa rebirth. like the restaurant is from the muramasa rebirth where you also got different storylines with different characters.

I’m super late to the party on this game just like you were! 😂 only played a few hours so far & just came from finishing Dragons Crown Pro.. and holy crap this game is actually just as fun! Different in its own little ways but still very enjoyable! I don’t usually buy anything unless I see if you have a review on it lol so thank you for making my choice an easy one!

I think this game needs a challenge mode for each character. The Xtra mode was nice but I felt the gameplay needed to really be pushed further to it's peak potential!

Muramasa brought me to VanillaWare. Specially Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the Wii. However, the wii doesn't do well in limited space. I heard Murumasa Rebirth was on the vita and I switched. It looks so vibrant and crisp. I haven't tried Grim Grimoire yet. There is also Grand Knight History released in Japan for PSP (which will play on USA PSP). The upcoming 13 sentinels aegis rim might make me consider more mech games, but shall see.

It's a superb game, and even if it can get repetitive, I think the mechanics and the great visuals make up for it.

You can tell they tried to ameliorate the repetitiveness by adding new bosses and checkpoints. If you liked this game. Vanillaware announced their newest title coming to PS4/Vita. (13 Sentinels Aegis Rim)

The ps2 version is a must have

I would have gotten a Greatest-Hits version and worried about getting an original copy later. I'm sure you were occupied with plenty of other good games at the time, however. Good to hear the Happy Console Gamer dislike something, in this case alchemy, as you're much happier about gaming than I am, but that's a good thing.

I remember wanting this on the ps2 but the weird leveling system kind of scared me off

This is the most expensive game on my list. Others are SGD 18, SGD 30, SGD 50, SGD 60, this is more than SGD 75. I would still get it anyway.

I was get the Storybook Edition but am get Star Ocean V this month I get this too later.

I got this game on release and I thought it was okay but Dragon's Crown really mastered the formula.

I love this game on the PS2 and i'm really glad they did this remaster because the original suffered a lot from slowdown. Did you notice any drops on framerate on this one? specially on the Queen of the Underworld.

So glad to see that you are enjoying it. Odin's is my favourite Vanillaware game, and I can't wait to replay it with no slowdowns in the PS4. Still 2 weeks until we see it released here in Spain...

I bought the original Odin Sphere on a whim after seeing a very positive review for it in a magazine... and my god was I happy I did. Absolutely beautiful game with very fun gameplay. I'm so glad it's getting re-released on the Vita so I have it on the go! Although, I will say Muramasa juuuuuust beats it :D

Ever since I played the Japanese demo I was so worried the game would be too easy from the original with all the new moves... but *NOPE*, it's just super stylish and fun. That was my *only* concern. You picked a fantastic time to jump in! A couple of bosses used to lag from the amount of stuff on screen but they totally took care of it. Give us an update when you beat the game too. It's pretty interesting!

I gotta say thi to you Johnny. After you finish Odin Sphere, please go back and FINISH Muramasa if you have not! If you have great, but if not go do it! It is so awesome! And if you wana check out my aweosme muramasa videos, I show off killing almost all the bosses in hard mode with NO BUFFS AND NO POTIONS! So check them out if u want to see some amazing combat and strategy, just the bosses I posted!

I finished it back on PS2, it's a great game with some flaws. But some of those flaws are fixed with the new refined mode they did.

Such an awesome game, love it, Princess Crown as well which I still haven't finished.

Mr. HappyConsoleGamer, after completing the game, if you want a really good challenge, try beating the game on New Game+ on preferably Hard difficulty (all enemies/bosses are Level 50+ when playing on New Game+), it's right up there with Dante Must Die and Master Ninja difficulties. Enemies are really hard to stagger/knock into the air and they are highly aggressive and bosses are aided by tons of minor enemies and have new attacks. It's very similar to Dragon's Crown's Ultimate difficulty from the 1.05 patch. There is a Hell difficulty that you also unlock after beating the game but that's for perfectionists only, cause you always have 115hp no matter your level, so one or two hits will kill you even from regular enemies. Also, may I suggest Muramasa Rebirth on the Vita, it's basically the same type of game as Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and the 4 dlc chapters are really good (and at times weird weird weird lol, yeah tanooki i'm looking right at you)

Man I'm looking forward to this game. Dragons Crown was fantastic and the combat looks just so good. Also yes, I'm European so it's not out for me yet. That really sucks. It comes out on the 24th of this month over here. Well, leaves me some time to finish that new Witcher 3 expansion. Looking forward to it either way!

anybody else get the special edition of odin sphere on ps4, my favorite character to play as is velvet.

Never saw/heard of this and man, I LOVE the way it looks and that non turn-based battle system looks very satisfying. Quick question, I know I give you a hard time in like 50% of my HCG comments for once saying you "never got into Star Ocean 2" and that being said could it have anything to do with the item/customize system? It has that "combine these random, possibly useless things and get something that could be amazing" alchemy mechanic to it. I know everyone is different and likes different stuff, but that was always one of my favorite parts of am RPG. That possibility of creating an almost game breaking item is fun to me, what are your thoughts on weapon customization like that?

im also worried these new PS4 games will overheat my PS4 because of the demand of power of graphics with a low end motherboard.....playing some Uncharted 4 has become worry some. My PS4's fan starts sounding really loud and my power cord feels its going to melt..................

you should play muramasa rebirth for vita if you love this game. made by the same developer. this remake plays more like muramasa than classic odin sphere.

There's no regular version for ps4, right? I mean, hes obviously talking about the leifdrasir version, right?

I hear the vita version of Murumasa has an extra campaign that's better than the main game.

They fixed a lot of things from the PS2 version mainly the terrible slowdown that the PS2 version had when the frame rates drop to the ground when fighting the queen of the netherworld. Yeah the game may be 2D but it pushes the PS2 to it's limits. The original game is available as Classic Mode (I haven't played this mode yet) Anyway gamers that are not collectors should stay away from the PS2 version and get this instead. If you have a sealed copy of the PS2 version then leave it sealed forever.

The $60 price for it though i played the demo loved it just the price isn't worth it

princess crown box u had has english text? what region was that. dragons crown was beautifull but that whole 'sweepy mouse to reveal items to collect' makes you feel like your scrubbing a bath with a toothbrush. appraising sucked too. with these type of games, the more crap you have to contend with the less you can just enjoy it so muramasa is smak in the middle for me.

I put 47 hours into the original, just got the PS4 version and its seriously impressive, Liefthrasir should be shown to developers on how to do remakes properly

They fixed everything wrong with the PS2 version. It's so much better now.

It actually has the PS2 version, they named it Classic Mode.

I got this as a gift from my mom and cherished it since I popped it in the ol' PS2 and damn the graphics and story stuck with me and resonated with the child me at the time lol 2007 what a time to be alive

In PS2 it was an almost perfect game to me, which unfortunately I couldn't finish because when I had all the 5 protagonists at level 40 and was ready to take the final chapter, a blackout during a saving has corrupted my saved game. When PS3 relaunched a remaster version of it, I bought it and restarted the game in order to finally finish it. But I dropped it again when I played the demo for this remake. I was absolutely stunned how they caught an almost perfect game and turned it in a game beyond perfection. I'm just waiting for the prices go down a little but I don't think I can wait for much longer... Truly a masterpiece of a game!

Came back to my vita and a new copy of this game. Stuck between this and Muramussa as my favorite game.

For me, the original Odin Sphere is my 2nd favorite game, behind Xenoblade Chronicles.

Odin Sphere is awesome and I hate mainstream rpgs.

Dragons Crown is criminally underrated and barely spoken of. One of the best co-op games ever made. Vanillaware just kills it every time. Can't wait to see what they do with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

Love this game. The revamped gameplay is great and I'm shockingly attached to the characters. Definitely recommend it to action/rpg fans.

i remember when it was $10 at gamestop and i read one review and didnt get it because of it. now i NEED it for the vita.

Love this game (and all VanillaWare games). I have both versions -- the PS2 & The Storybook Edition on PS4. I like that there's different ways to level up. I believe the characters also level up when killing enemies; they just have *extra* ways to level up ... which is good in my book. I have most of VanillaWare's games. There's two that never made it to North America that I *REALLY* want --- Grand Knights History, and Princess Crown.
