Odinic Rite Media presents a sequel to the popular 'Odinism - An Eternal Faith'. This new film, entitled 'Odinism - Our Natural Religion', was shot on location at Tyrley locks, Shropshire, England during Yule 2010 c/e.
'Odinism - Our Natural Religion' is presented by Redwald, who discusses Odinism, its relationship with nature and how the natural religion of north west Europeans differs from the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The soundtrack was created by Odinist artists and these tracks feature on albums produced by OR Media, which are available via our website.
Contact details for OR Media and the Odinic Rite are at the end of this film.

Earth religions are needed in this day and age now more than ever, with Monotheistic extremism tearing apart the social structure, and man-king killing it's mother world with an apathetic approach to industrial reform and conservation. We need peacful religions, we need Earth religions, Odinism, Hinduism, Buddhism, African religions of nature and fertility.

Odinist Fellowship have opened the first pagan temple in England for over 1,000 years in my lovely town of Newark-on-Trent. Lovely little building, they're trying to get temples in every town so I hear and they're already making gains. This is fantastic, is it not?

I think you'll find that 'bloodthirstyness' is a trait expressed by many, many humans of every race, religion and creed. I am an Odinist because it is the religious pathway of my ancestors and its spiritual nature is right for me. I feel it offers a perfect balance between the spiritual and the mundane.

Our folk came from the north; the Hyperborean myth as published by Viktor Rydberg answers the great confusion of our time - that we are all of one root folk. The ancient swastika is found at it's most aged in the north (Ukraine) and at its most recent in more southerly regions. Our race, customs, mythology and symbolism were taken from the north to south.

I may be an Atheist, but I admire the beliefs involved within Odinism, I feel people within my beliefs share the same problem from Christians trying to control us as the Pagans did long before. Many of my beliefs(Outside of religion) draw from Pagan belief, not exploiting the wilderness when it's not needed, Woman and Man are equals, devotion to family. I wish this would be a common viewpoint in today's merciless society, instead of oppressive way of life Christians want us to live. It's a shame what happened to the Pagans, they were killed for their beliefs, threatened to death for not obeying. Paganism isn't taught in public schools where Islam Hinduism and Greek religion are (A school I went to in Northern Ohio never mentioned Paganism). Basically, I wish the best in the Odinist a bright future, may not be like my beliefs, but diversity is what unites us, or in other cases tears us apart.

For a long time, I had wondered where I should turn when I'm lost or worried, what I should put my faith in, After looking at my family history and finding that my ancestors honored the All-Father, the Gods and Goddesses, the answer became clear. To honor my ancestors and become the man I am meant to be with Odinism at my side.

I do think that there may be multiple Gods out there. I am Agnostic, but I have known people who have spoken to Odin, Thor, and other Gods. I feel a stronger connection to Northern deities than any other deities. There has to be something to this. I am 80% sure that I have even gotten signs from the Morrighan (seeing Ravens/Crows when I wanted a sign, and seeing a huge group of them when I got off the bus after having strong inner turmoil), and also from Artemis (a doe kept following me up the driveway until I felt uncomfortable, then she instantly walked away the instant I felt uncomfortable). My first prayer to Mother God Azna, I made a half hearted prayer when I felt full of darkness, and I instantly felt like it was all removed, and replaced with light. At this point, I am not discounting anything :)

I have always taking interest in nature, philosophy and logic. As i have become older i have found spirituality in these subjects by finding my perception of their "reason" and universal importance. What i like about the old European mythology is that i feel it has a direct ancestral connection to me and a direct environmental connection to the land where i have learned to live. I also feel that this mythology should not be taken literally, and when seen as symbolic metaphors and personification of underlying forces of nature, reality and human psychology, it can fit very comfortably with modern scientific understanding. I also believe that most religions on the planet can be treated the same, but they have unfortunately been hijacked and infiltrated by elites and power hungry individuals, that aimed to use the mass emotional grouping as means to govern rulership, manipulate common life for profit and wage wars through fear of punishment. If anyone is interesting in this subject in general, they should check out the speeches of Manly P. Hall on youtube. All religion was once the same.

There are many who feel that Asatru, Odinism and various Anglo Saxon and Northern European Pagan beliefs are for the people of those cultures only - Folkism if you will. I personally agree with that as it is the religion and beliefs of my people and my ancestors - it relates to nobody else. If however people outside the culture want to invest themselves in the faith and teachings, nobody can stop them - but I feel that would be ultimately inauthentic for them.

This question goes out to all Asatru/Odinist videos: what is the Heathen attitude towards evil, wrong-doing, and guilt? If a Viking, Aryan, Goth, etc. burned his neighbor's hut down in spite, raped a little girl for fun, skimmed off extra grain for himself, betrayed his tribe during a war, abandoned his family to take up with another woman, poisoned a rival, habitually lied, &c., were there steps for introspection, reconciliation, recompense, reform, or was he just punished, exiled, or killed? Is a Heathen answerable to the gods or just the tribe? Most modern imagery suggests that Heathenry is all bodybuilding, beer, and bonfires, without a deeper awareness of good and evil within oneself. Serious, mature, thoughtful answers only, please.

Hiya freedom, as a rule Odinism is a modern expression of an ancestral faith whilst Asatru looks at the historical practice of the worship of the gods. Odinist take inspiration from the past and how it can be expresed today, embracing advances in technology. Asatru focuses on the restoration of ancient rites and try to replicate this. Asatru groups may enjoy historical clothing, attending meetings dressed in "Viking" clothing; at Odinist events it's often jeans and t-shirt. hope this helped

There is lots of connections between Pagan religions, and Buddhism/Taoism. The Swastika is a long used symbol of peace, and prosperity. The ancient writings of Sanskrit contain this ancient symbol, and it was used by Germanic people's as well. The Indo-Iranian, and Indo-European people's, are thought to be some of the first "White" people, many "Aryans" exist in Iran to this day. So it makes sense that they carried over the customs they had when they migrated from the South.

It's a matter of personal preference of course; historical understanding and language are a part of who we are, however there is no rule that says Odinists must learn Old English etc. Our ancient ways were removed from official records in England, but these ways certainly weren't wiped out - they have endured through word of mouth and the folk memory.

Nothing complicated about the way the Odinic Rite practice Odinism; we worship the Aesir and Vanir whilst recognising Odin as a leader. We give great respect to our ancestors and their deeds but we do not shy away from telling it like it is in regards to those of our folk who have failed us. We honour our Odal lands and play an active role in caring for Mother Jorth.

A good point. Scripture has been twisted to bits among many Christians. Which is why I am not a Protestant. However, they also appeal to thoughts and feelings, too. And thoughts and feelings change constantly. I don't trust feelings by themselves any more than I trust an interpretation of Scripture by itself. I am a Catholic. Mine appeal to logic, nature and history before we expect anyone, even ourselves, to rely on a book's words. Feelings change often. Nature, logic, and history don't.

It's not a case of anyone trying to stop anyone else from worshipping whoever they like. A Chinese man may want to worship Odin, but it's more likely that his own religious customs will be more suitable and the esoteric and especially the exoteric teachings will be more readily understood. I have a passing interest in Budhism, but the teachings of European scripture and European customs suit me best.

Thank you for your comment, but while you are free to call yourself what you will, I and my fellow OR members are 'Odinists' and we don't need to be told who Odin is. Nor do we need to entertain arguments amongst our own folk regarding exactly what we should call ourselves. There are more important things to be concerned with.

Thanks for the comment. My personal view is that all those who worship their ancestral gods should not argue amongst themselves. Monotheistic religion is the enemy of nature and mankind, so chose a path which suits you and that puts you in touch with nature. Ancient scripture can be corrupted but our soul, ie our thoughts and feelings at our deepest, folkish level cannot. Follow what feels right and honour your folk.

Thanks for a reply that is possibly the most genuine I've seen from a Christian posting in a non-Christian comment section. Can I make a small but significant correction to your assumption that Odinists fear Odin? There is a major difference in how we connect with our Gods compared to how Christians, Jews & Muslims connect with their God - we do not fear Odin; we connect, learn and attempt to emulate him. Our belief is that over many, many lifetimes we gradually ascend and become like our Gods.

Any one or any group can call themselves Odinist and proclaim any ideological or political standpoint so it would be fruitless of me to generalise about Odinism in this regard. However the Odinic Rite do not promote politics or political discussion. Regarding race and religion, I firmly believe that the best way to understand the underlying truths of nature and the cosmos is to follow a religion which best speaks to you. Odinism speaks to north west Europeans in a way no other religion does.

I love nature and I think everything is connected and ties in with reality itself but I truly believe if we are to develop our understanding of nature we need to loose these fantasy gods and myths (as metamorphically interpreted as they may be) We should, ofcourse, respect and appreciate nature and all life on earth, but to worship and pray to anything is unnecessary and only distracts us from physically making the changes we need to better our relationship with nature and the people that want to be a positive part of it.

@freedom71000 It is a mindset thing really. A lot of Asatruer think that they have to dress up like Vikings in order to honour our Gods. Odinist believe that if that is you want then fine, but don't pressure others into doing so by telling them they are wrong for not doing so. We apply what we have learned from the old ways to Modern lifestyle. We seek to ever evolve and learn new ways for the better. Odinism in the Modern world. \FFF

@chuckvega9991
@chuckvega9991 10 лет назад
Considering that many Europeans, as well as those people outside of Europe but are of European decent, like myself, are mixed between several European Cultures (including Germanic), it's really hard to pinpoint what it means to have the old ways be specifically for purely Germanic people. It's probably pretty rare to find anyone of purified decent. I've got Irish, German, Scottish, English, Spanish, French, Etc. I am a Heathen. I've got it in my blood, even though I could easily go along with Celtic (or even Roman reconstruction) if I wished, but Odin and Thor and Tyr and the rest of the gods make sense to me. While it would seem weird for anyone of non-European decent to choose to adhere to such beliefs, I don't think that anyone has a right to tell off someone from a belief due to heritage. That sort of notion inhibits progression within the Human Race, no matter what beliefs are held, and ANY form of Heathenism, whether it be Odinism, Asatru, Vanatru, Etc., should strive to be honorable, respectful, and Reasonable.
@greenjackman
@greenjackman 10 лет назад
Chuck Vega It is perfectly reasonable to state that non-Europeans would be wasting their time following European gods as there would be no spiritual connection. All peoples have their ancestral gods and goddesses and so it is logical to follow the gods of your ancestors. Universalism is a waste of time.
@chuckvega9991
@chuckvega9991 10 лет назад
Tell that to the millions of Caucasians praying to Jesus, or those who adhere to any other belief system that are not connected through heritage. Heathenism has already sectioned itself off from most, if not all, of the religious world (including General Paganism, from what I've experienced), so furthering that through being heritage-specific is pointless. Being Folkish just seems backwards.
@greenjackman
@greenjackman 10 лет назад
Chuck Vega "Tell that to the millions of Caucasians praying to Jesus, or those who adhere to any other belief system that are not connected through heritage." - That's the point of this film mate. Being heritage specific is sensible. Why waste your time following a spiritual path that has no connection to your ancestors or your identity? Odinism gives the peoples of northern Europe a chance to explore their own spiritual identity. It offers meaning and purpose purely because there is an ancestral connection not only to our gods but to our mythology and our understanding of nature.

But science is only one approach and the god force within and without does exist and provides a creative, inspirational force which science cannot yet explain. All those of our folk who have created great works of art and so forth have been inspired by this god force.

So what ever your choice, convert or not, whichever feels true in your heart will not lead you astray. that is my stance at the moment.

However concerning what you say about what if I might be wrong...What do you think would be wrong? A Religion practiced by a specific branch of people for tens of thousands of years, until violently ripped away by Christian invasions. Or some Religion hailing from the Depths of the middle east, created by some guy that shares no blood, no bond and no knowledge of you, which has only existed for around 2000 years?

What if you ARE wrong? I assume your worried about your prospects in the afterlife, but I really don't think you should be. Our confrontation with the mystery of death is a necessary and sublime part of the human experience and anyone who wants to skip out on it is missing out. I think Heidegger said something along those lines. Anyway, go to the faith that resonates with you as a spiritual being. The afterlife is an unknown, so make the best of your time in this world.

@hollidaylevi Thanks for the comment, but I wouldn't view an Asatru video and swear in my comments so please don't do it here. We are a family orientated organisation and kids will watch this.

Orkar Isber Odnism is called Odinism for a reason; we are not Asatru and our views differ, generally speaking, in some areas, mainly in regardis to folkish beliefs. I am happy to allow comment and debate but I would like to emphasise that this is an Odinist video and those seeking to learn about Odinism are urged to read the articles on the Odinic Rite website. Those seeking Asatru organisations are of course free to look elsewhere.

greenjackman maybe i was under the wrong impression that Odinism and Asatru, Wotanism, Forn Sidr and all the different names for it try essentially the same - revive the old germanic faith. Oppinions how that should be done vary ofc. but i thought at the base all try to get back to the roots our ancestors had and for this, one should study the source material we have, archeological, historical, mythological. And i sadly know way too many Asatruar who dont know much about their faith. I aint from the USA but i guess its the same there

Orkar Isber The Eddas are, unfortunately, heavily tainted by the enemies of our Faith, Folk and Family and as such they should be read with that in mind rather than as a blueprint for a faith. In my experience (and it may not be true for all) I have found Asatru types to be very focused on the 'lore' whereas Odinists of the Odinic Rite have a strong emphasis on spiritual truth and seeking the God forces within and without. It is this spiritual seeking which makes it impossible for Odinists to be advocates of Universalism (ie that anyone can be an Odinist. They cannot.). Furthermore, to answer some queries regarding Odinism in England, the followers of the Old Gods of the Druids were pressed back towards Angelsey by the Romans and the later arrival of the Saxons, Jutes and Angels gave birth to England, where the Gods Odin, Thor and Tyr etc were worshiped. Many, many English place names are derived from these deities. In regards to 'Odinism in the Modern World', we create sacred places and develop our religion in the present by our actions now, and our blots / ceremonies and spiritual exercises. The religion of Odinism evolves and strengthens with the passage of time, and while our ancestors are of course honoured in our blots, we are not 're-creationists' nor do we seek to be Vikings. That age has passed, and it was not the Golden Age some believe it to be - the Golden Age of our race came before known history began, but the New Awakening we strive for will come again - everything is cyclical.

greenjackman i wouldnt say heavily. a lot of Poems of the Eddda were written long before the christian faith reached the norse people. Sure some parts were heavily influenced by christianity but not all. Also we have other sources too, Also, Spirituality and ascension are major themes in all religions, also in Asatru. For some more than for others, but you shouldt say that Odinists are spiritual, others arent. Also i dont get why not everyone could be a spiritual seeker in the norse religion?

Paganism just refers to the worship of multiple deities, therefore Hinduism could be considered 'paganism'. Odinism is one kind of paganism but we always refer to it as 'Odinism' to avoid confusion.
