Be a part of the discovery of one of the most important archaeological findings of Mycenaean Era. Help the Archaeological Team of the University of Ioannina in Greece to unearth the ruins of Odysseus Palace on the island of Ithaca.
The excavations at St. Athanasios area in Ithaca has been identified by Greek archaeologists as the palace of Odysseus. The site is believed to be a large Mycenaean palatial building complex occupying two levels. A stairway cut into the solid bedrock of the hill provided easy access to the two levels. Other finds on the site include a funerary enclosure, a large circular structure whose purpose is unknown, several storerooms and workshops, a sophisticated drainage system and an underground cistern. The complex is believed to date to around 1300 BCE.
The excavations are currently on hold owing to a lack of funding from the Greek government.
Here is where all of us are asked to come aboard, by donating whatever amount of money is possible to spare for each one of us.
The money that we will raise will be donated to the University of Ioannina for the specific purpose: The continuation of the archaeological excavations and research of Odysseus Palace on the island of Ithaca.

Is this the site of the palace of Odysseus? If so, that would be wonderfull as Mycene, Pylos, Tyrins and Troje have been identified and this would be the last item to complete the list of most important sites mentioned in the Odyssee. Identifying the palace of Odysseus with scientific method makes the story told by Homer even more accessible. The palace of Ithaca deserves certainly to be researched with the most sophisticated modern technology, methods and techniques. Anyway, this site at Ithaca is certainly a monumental site and should be carefully excavated. I would love to read an excavation report or preliminary publication when available.

@@YiannisArsenis Dear mr. Yiannis Arsenis thank you very much for your answer. I am so sorry not to have reacted sooner. I have visited the wonderfull site and read the publications of professor Thanasis Papadopoulos. His scientific approach is sound and the identification of the site is in my eyes undisputable. When I was at the site I took some pictures and one small piece of wall drew my attention. After studying the available litterature I was able to date this (cyclopic) wallfragment (lesbian style) in the 6th century BC. I wrote a small article about it and did publish it this year at Linkedin. The title of the article is: B. Klooster, A sixth century wall at the site of the Mycenean palace at Ithaca, 2024. Maybe you did read this article already but you might have missed it and therfor I want to bring it to your attention. When you did not see it and are interested I can send you the article in PDF format. with kind regards, drs. B.(Brand) Klooster

The site shown is the "School of Homer," also called St Athanasios after a ruined church there. The identification as the palace of Odysseus has not been generally endorsed by scholars: see Christina Souyoudzoglou-Haywood, “Archaeology and the search for Homeric Ithaca: the case of Mycenaean Kephalonia,” Acta Archaeologica, vol. 89, no. 1 (December, 2018), p. 147. The true location of the palace of Odysseus, according to all the indications of the Odyssey, has been identified by Jonathan Brown. It is elsewhere on Ithaki: see his "In search of Homeric Ithaca" (Parrot Press, Canberra, 2020), also on Google Play.
